Subwoofer Shootout / Subwoofer Roundup - URL lists

Thread Starter

I'm compiling a list of subwoofer shootouts or subwoofer roundups to use as a quick reference thread for other threads.

Here is an initial list, and below each link is a list of the subs included in each meet. The listing of subs is not necessarily in order of ranking for each meet. Some meets chose subjective and objective winners, some meets didn't. If you see a sub you are interested in, I'd encourage following that meet's link and reading up on that meet and sub in greater detail. If you know of other subwoofer sorties please link them and I'll add them to this first post.

Ideally I'm looking for both "professional" shootouts, and amateur shootouts with more than one person's opinion echoed in the reviews in order to be included in this reference thread.

I wish there were more people in the Philly/jersey/Delaware area that would be willing to do a shoot out. I would love to put my creations up against commercial subs to see how they would stack up.

Edit: different kind of list...I thought it was a list of upcoming meetings for subwoofer shootouts...sorry

Not to go too far off topic, but count me and my submersive hp in also. I don't have a good place to do a get together but would be willing to drive a couple hours and help with setup and organization.

Seems like my accidental post has gathered some interest. I will try and organize something and will contact you guys by PM when I start a new thread. I don't want to clog up this thread anymore so if anyone else is interested send me a PM. Thanks

It would be nice if someone also gathered a list of Ricci's driver and some recent subwoofer measurements. Or just include the link to http://www.data-bass.com/systems after he has posted them in there.

That has

Genelec HTS6
Adire SaDhara
Bag End S21E
ServoDrive Contrabass
Hydrosonic HS-12S
CoDrive CB1
Snell ICS Sub24
Triad Inroom Platinum
Velodyne DD18
Methodology was here
http://www.hometheater.com/content/w...st-methodology
I know a lot of that stuff is older now but it may be just good as a comparison to see how far we have gone.
Also, I think the tests on avtalk are good

Again, maybe some older ones in there but still good as a base line for how far we have come
here is their methodology

Good evening all,

I am brand new to this forum and more than happy I was able to stumble across it. There is much great information here plus it looks like a fun and friendly group of members. Here is my problem.
I am looking to purchase a sub-woofer that will mate with my Magnapan 1.6 heavily modified (Peter Gunn) speakers. I listen 100% to jazz small groups and big bands, classical music of all kinds with my favorite being large scale orchestral works, smaller works, piano, cello and violin music and finally organ works. I want a sub that will reproduce the low 32hz organ pedal tones as well as the large kettle drums.
The remainder of my music system consist of a Threshold power amp, Classe pre-amp, VPI turntable with SME arm and Grado Reference and Shure V15 cartridges. I also use a Parasound belt drive CD transport and tube DAC plus a large collection of power and interconnect cables. I listen mostly to LP records and CD's. I almost forgot I love some folk music as well.
My music room is 13 feet wide by 23 feet long with 9 foot ceilings. I will appreciate all comments and suggestions. Again, the sub must integrate seamlessly with my Magnapan planar speakers. Thank you all in advance for your suggestions.

I think it would be of much more help to people if you relabeled our shootout "Two Brothers Sub Shootout", it's a little nondescript.

I would suggest something like "1K$ Sub Shootout with Video, Photo Galleries and Graphs", you know something that lets people know what to expect, especially since there's a ton of unique content there. smile.gif

I understand what you mean, but nearly all of these shootouts have photos, many have graphs, and a few even have video. Those labels become some what redundant. I did update the title of your shootout to include the specific price range of subs you compared. When I have some free time in the next couple weeks I'll try to put a legend of sorts in the sticky with some references to each meet/shootout link's materials like you asked.
