PlayStation Meeting 2013 (PS4 unveiling - conference replay in first post) - Page 48

I'll be working today, so I'll be putting myself on blackout at 6pm eastern. I'll have to get the full info dump after the fact, but should be fun reading all the reactions either way.

My final predictions:

Controller is what we're gonna get.

Camera will be in every box. Also a headset or another way to voice chat.

HDD remains swappable, will NOT be an SSD (still too expensive).

The BD drive will be a tray or a door, will be surprised if it's a slot loader.

The big one: Gaikai will be the backbone of the new network. Not only will the streaming services be used for various things, I'm betting they even use it to run the next version of Home and whatever the new store is. The low latency tech that Gaikai invented is a big reason Sony bought them, so I wouldn't be surprised if they leverage the entire PSN off of the service.

Here's hoping the announcement has nothing but good news smile.gif

Hearing the rumors about two price points for the PS3 being about $100 apart, I'm thinking that maybe there will be a BC version and a non BC version being sold. The BC version being the more expensive of the two.

If there are two price points, my guess is that there will be a Move/PSEye edition with a bigger HDD (and maybe PS+ subscription) and a cheaper vanilla edition without that stuff. BC will exist (at least initially) as a Gaikai stream option only IMHO.

Kaz Harai, head honcho of Sony, is becoming quite the cult hero according to this article from CVG.

For all of you on media blackout, I will update the top of the first post with links to replays of the conference for when you get home. Book mark the page so you don't have to search through spoilers to find it.

Good point. The way they've dealt with those titles is to use an approximation of the English pronunciation (something like "foh" for "four"). And AFAIK, they've used Anglicized Japanese for the name of the prior three Playstation consoles, too ("Puraysutayshun Tsu," and "Puraysutayshun Suri," for example). Perhaps the bad luck doesn't follow if you use the English pronunciation for the number 4.

I've read that the presentation is supposed to be 2 hours. That means a lot of games are going to get shown, they're going far deeper than just acknowledging it exists.

It'll be pretty hilarious to watch Microsoft still try to pretend like they don't know anything about a nextbox. The press release rebuttal about how the xbox 360 is still going strong will be priceless.

I didn't particularly enjoy any of the Move games, but I think if they splinter the base between Move and non-Move right off the bat like that, then that will pretty much be the death knell (mediocrity knell?) for Move games.

The idea someone else mentioned of allowing PS3 controllers to be compatible for games where the additional functions of a PS4 controller aren't needed seems like a great way to keep PS3 owners on the Sony bandwagon even if they don't have BC. Of course, BC would be preferable, but if you already have extra controllers you can use to play LBP3 or the like on your new PS4, that can be a pretty good differentiator.

P.S. I can see Gaikai streaming being a big hit with the BF4/COD/SSF/Tekken etc. fans...

Oh for wilda$$ predictions. How about full checkerboard support for 3D!

Oh wait, that's a fantasy, not a prediction....
Yeah, I think move just has to be included in the box, if its included in the controller. What does move require? A LED light, a gyro and a camera. The light and gyro are a given. How much does a mediocre webcam really cost? $10? Move is still relatively low tech compared to kinect, and its better for precision....it'd kind of be silly not to include it, even if half the people don't ever connect it. Put a mic on the camera, a speaker on the controller, and game chat is solved too.

Latest random rumor from a no-name site: Diablo 3 is coming to the Vita.

Well, if that's true and a price drop is also coming it would make me want to buy one.

There is already a mic on the camera.

There you go then. Although a mic array would be even better.

Well, let me update that for you then. There is a microphone ARRAY on the Playstation eye. 4 mics.

Well then, every base is covered.

Interesting that the move light is now a strip that bulges out from the top. The strip provides additional information on orientation, and the bulge allows to to still be seen while held sideways. Distance might be a little more difficult to judge since its no longer a sphere, but if the camera is higher resolution....that helps considerably.

I never bought the move because it seemed like a half assed answer to the Wii, but there were some amazing motion games on the Wii, like Wii sports and boom blox. I still wouldn't buy a dedicated motion controller, but if its built in, I'm all for it.

I mean, 50 bucks is wipe my ass money; lets just move on. If you're all in on a $400+ console and launch games and all the like, and $50 bucks is a deal breaker for you, something's wrong ...

You can't even take your wife/girl/whatever out to a decent dinner for $50 bucks anymore.

Big whoop.

It's not $50, it's $50 a year for the life of the console. So 6 years = $300. I think about all the other games that could be bought with the money wasted on the subscription. It's not a deal breaker but they better offer more than MS does with live gold.

I still say big whoop. .14 a day for a hobby. Hobbies cost money, services cost money, etc. $50 is less than a month of cable TV for a year's worth of service.

I've posted my wild predictions in various threads, but I'll summarize them here before the big show and add even more wild predictions:

- SteamBox support announced for the PS4 (likely through a PS+ sub). Access to Linux-based games on the Steam store is the main perk. Valve will be allowed to sell B-tier PS4 games exclusively on Steam (games like Journey, Flower, etc.). Cross platform play is possible for designated PS4/SteamBox games.

- Half Life 3 announced, along with a PS4 version.

- One PS4 SKU for $450

- $300 PS4 option available with a five-year PS+ subscription commitment

- November launch date

- Special Square-Enix game shown, maybe Final Fantasy XV. Outside chance of a Final Fantasy VII remake.

- PS4 versions of The Last Guardian and FFvXIII shown

- Agent shown (from Rockstar)

- PS3 streaming via Gaikai to be the only BC option for now

- Full PS4 streaming to the Vita possible for most titles

- The new console's name is PlayStation Cloud

What IF they don't say anything about the PS4 at all? I mean do we know for a FACT that Sony will be releasing information about the PS4 today?

Fact.

It would be pretty hilarious if they were trolling everyone though. smile.gif

Lmao, matter of fact never mind...I found the best predictions on the internet, take a look.

" PS4 is a $400 wand that wirelessly streams to TVs with wizard magic. Launch games are Harry Potter and the Ten Ghost Farts, Twilight: Breaking Wind, and Uncharted: Drake Toots A Bunch. Media loves it, elects the PS4 President of the US. Step 3: profit."

And some people pay $14.99/month and XYZ thousands on a gaming PC to support their hobby, or drink x amount of wine each month at $20/bottle. Just depends on what you value. For my $50 a year isn't something I bat an eye at.

I'm going to miss the live show as well, and what I'm going to do is just not go on the internet at all till about 6pm (pacific time), and then hopefully find a link to a replay of the conference, and just go straigt to watching the replay. I don't want anything spoiled, if I can help it. I wish they were starting this at 5pm Pacific.

by the way, do you guys think there will be any mention at all about used games, one way or the other ?

Like maybe Kaz will say something like this... "I'm happy to announce that the PS4 will be able to play used games!"

you can watch on your TV via the ps3's “What’s New” section. No cable channels are showing it as far as I know.

IMO it would be better for them to just keep quiet about the whole thing, keep negotiating behind the scenes with used retailers (i.e. Gamestop), and announce something closer to launch. By keeping quiet on used physical games, they can come out looking like the good guys if they support used games at launch. They should just let MS continue to take all the bad press through the rumor mill.

Better would be to announce ways to exchange/trade "used" digital games through their new network service. Now, that's something I'd pay to subscribe for!

I predict so much belly aching from the MS side it will make the destruction of Alderaan a mere ripple in the force.
I really don't know why, but I'm getting this strange sense of anticipation about this. I'm not even that big a gamer anymore. I fire up my PS3 to play games once every few weeks it seems. (Though I am anxiously anticipating God of War : Ascension which will be in my hands in a few weeks). In about 1.5 hours it will all start, and let's hope that Sony's servers are able to handle the millions of individuals who will be on their page to watch the press conference. biggrin.gif

I predict you get all of it wrong, you might get the release data, but they won't tell you today.
