'Boss' on Starz HD - Page 2

TV Notes
'Good Wife' producer taking on 'Boss'
By James Hibberd, EW.com's 'Inside TV' Blog - November 24th, 2011

Regime change is coming to Starz' Boss. We hear veteran TV producer Dee Johnson is coming aboard as co-showrunner of the Kelsey Grammer drama, joining Boss creator and executive producer Farhad Safinia.

Johnson has an impressive list of producer credits including ER, Army Wives, Southland and, most recently, The Good Wife. Boss is Safinia's first TV producing gig and Starz initially brought in experienced producers Richard Levine and Lyn Greene to co-manage the first season. The duo exited in October and Johnson set to take over as showrunner for the second round, which was ordered by Starz before the drama premiered.

Boss has been well received by critics even though the ratings aren't so hot. The most recent episode hit 250,000 viewers for its Friday night telecasts.

We got a free preview of Starz for the weekend on U-Verse. So, I took advantage of it and started watching this show from the beginning. Wow. It is superb. My mother and I stayed up last night and watched a few episodes and we instantly fell in love with it. Kelsey Grammar is definitely going to get an Emmy nomination.

The kicker for me, is when they mention all the Chicago areas and show the landmarks. I live in the Chicago area and have all of my life, so it is a treat to see that. And the supporting cast, surprisingly brings as much emotion and intrigue to the story as the Kelsey Grammar character. Fine, fine show. Definitely one of the best of the year. It also helps when you have Gus Van Sant directing and holding Executive producer position.

Ditto! If Grammer does not get an Emmy for this show, it would be a crime!

The sex is usually the low point of the show for me because almost all of it has been absolutely ridiculous. The sex on Skinemax is more realistic than the sex on Boss.

I think some politicians do bang their assistants on a conference room or office, motels, etc.. doing it in close proximity to the wife was a bit unrealistic.. and a bit too fast :P

Heck Clinton did it.. why not some fictional characters in a TV show.. LOL

In other things.. seems that no-ears guy is serious business, I haven't seen anyone in real life with prostetic ears like that..

If you haven't been watching this series - go catch up. Last night's episode (#7) was as good as anything I have ever seen, in any medium.

It literally is worth watching the 6 previous hours just to watch this hour in context. What a gut punch that episode was.

The 2 previous episodes to me were a snoozefest. Last nights was hands down the best yet.

Totally agree. I was just blown away. The finest hour of TV I have seen in a long time. So many twists and turns. It was definitely worth it, to make it to this point. Next week will be just as great. Each cast member brings such depth and emotion to their characters. Let's watch Kane lose it at Meredith next week. Still can't get over that ending.

Agree that this weeks episode was the best of the series yet.

Sacrificing his own daughter! Heart of stone in this man.

Agree best episode yet causing lots of '...holy sh**! ...' moments among my wife and I and I believe no matter how it ends it cannot be as good as this episode.

++. His using his daughter to divert attention and save his mayoralty was as vicious and cold an act as I've seen on TV. The interrogation of Kitty was incredible as well. Kelsey Grammer should get Emmys for the overall show and for last night's episode (even though the awards don't work that way).

Kelsey Grammer absolutely must win an Emmy for this episode. Phenomenal performance.

I agree 100%, his performance has been nothing short of spectacular. I was blown away with last night's episode. He was so menacing when speaking to Kitty I had to wonder if the actress herself wasn't a bit unsettled, truly a fantastic performance throughout the whole episode. The accompanying cast are nothing to sniff at either, this show is very well put together. I also enjoy Homeland, especially Claire Danes' performance, but Grammer easily surpasses that.

This has to be the very best show nobody is watching, what is it getting, like 200K viewers? What a shame, reminds me of the early seasons of The Wire, nobody watched that either and look how great it was.

I wouldn't doubt it. Here is link to Kane's "speech" to Kitty. Even reading it is chilling.

That was just terrific to watch. Grammer is really making a case for an Emmy, especially with this episode. I could almost feel the guy in my face as he lectured Kitty. Her startled flinch when he suddenly bellowed looked so real, I think she was actually a bit frightened. The Machiavellian turns in this one were truly epic.
That episode and the speech was my best tv moment since the 2nd to last episode of Rubicon. If Grammer does not get an emmy on this one it will be a travesty of justice.

Thanks for that link, a very good read.

I would never have believed that Kelsey Grammer could be so thoroughly convincing as a ruthless politician.

I think his performance is excellent by any standard, but what makes his performance all the more remarkable is that he spent 20 YEARS (1984-2004) playing Dr. Frasier Crane. If 20 years in a single role doesn't set our expectations of who an actor is and what his range is, I don't know what else would.

I enjoyed Grammer as Frasier Crane (at least during the Cheers era) and I really expected it would be very difficult for me to watch him and not see Frasier.
Good point. It is hard to imagine him now as Frasier. Felt really bad for Kitty. Gets tricked by Kane, knocked up by Sajac, dressed down big time by Kane, and then has to mail out pics of baby father with another woman. And recruited by Meredith who she has to give up to Kane.

This show along with Boardwalk Empire are the very best out there at this point. I can't wait until Friday!!!!

What a wonderfully vicious finale last night! Zajac's wife is almost as hard core as Kane and his wife. A real steel backbone in that one. I really didn't see Ezra Stone as the betrayer coming and the cold, calculating way in which he explained it to Kane was riveting. I am a bit puzzled by the role of the Enforcer/Hit Man. My sense, all along, has been that he gets his assignments directly from Stone with Kane not knowing anything too specific about Ezra's methods giving him a cloak of deniability. So the real question is, who ordered Hit Man to kill Stone if, that is, he really dies. Given Stone's betrayal and all of the accumulated dirt that he could have made public to destroy Kane, he clearly had to go but who gave the order. Was it Kane? It doesn't seem likely that he would give a direct execution order. Was Hit Man protecting himself because he caught wind of Stone's bailing? Then again, given Stone's impassive assessment of a worthy punishment for the acts of traitors, especially himself, could he have ordered his own death? Since Stone was packing and getting ready to leave/run, that one doesn't ring true either. That makes me wonder about Kane's old police buddy. He seems to be capable of almost anything. Maybe he arranged for the hit to protect his old friend. If so, however, how did he know that Stone was out?

I'm not exactly sure about what I saw. Did Ezra really confess to Kane in his office and discuss punishment and traitors and all that? Because after Ezra was shot, they cut back to Kane's office and he's sitting there at that couch, alone. Was the confession from Ezra just another hallucination of Kane's from his disease like he's been having all season?

When Ezra was on the phone, maybe he saw the look that Kane gave him, figured that Kane found out he leaked the documents, and then hurried home and began packing to get out of town.

Yes an excellent end to a great season!! Lots of speculating until next season! This show and its cast better win some Emmy's!!

Dish decided that it was time to pull starz from my lineup of channels. I have been following Boss and would like to catch the last few episodes of the year. Anyone have a recommendation for a site to watch eps 6, 7, 8, without having to download some spyware in the process?

My wife pointed out to me that that whole exchange between Kane and Ezra never happened but that Kane sat there and imagined the conversation as he knew Ezra was being dealt with. I cannot understand how people can continue to go missing without the police suspecting something, although "no ears" did get a warrant but still...
I continue to hate politics but this show grew on me, the last two episodes blew me away. The first seven minutes of the finale and the exchange between Kane and his wife was jaw-dropping great acting from both of them.

We need to bump this thread!!
Keep it alive...
After seeing some of the other dreck that passes for prime time viewing, there is no compelling reason to watch anything but:
Boss
Boardwalk Empire
Homeland
And really, just for it's satirical value, Dexter

I'm actually enjoying the reruns of The Wire, on the D* Audience network, again.
The writing, and acting on that show is still among the very best ever!

That matches my top 4 perfectly. The only network show I watch is Fringe, and maybe Bones if I kind of want to disengage my brain for an hour or so.

I must of been asleep at the wheel when I posted my top picks, or maybe I omitted it because it wrapped weeks ago, but I have to give credit to the meanest, baddest, most incorrigible of all these characters:
WALTER WHITE!! Yeah, "Breaking BAD".
