You guys may remember the quad mfw-15 dual opposed that we tried to run at the GTG. One of the four had some faulty wiring inside of it, and since Michael left I was screwing around with EQ without knowing what I was doing-and probably didn't help things when we just plug and played.

Technosponge came over and purchased my CHT 18.1 pair. He also got Michaels minidsp so it should be cool to see how those subs do in his 1900? cubic foot theater room. I'm guessing he will be very happy.

I'm going to miss those subs, the sound is unmistakable to me (or at least we will see when we go to Archaeas in January, eh?)!

Hooked up the quad dual opp, and with Michael and kids here we cranked FOTP and WOW. Never heard FOTP with this much displacement, it was awesome....the barrel roll was AWESOME.

We were shaking the heck out of my can lights and my glass in the rear of the room...

I'm going to run a bunch of music and movies through them in the next couple weeks.

They fit perfect across the front of my screen.

That looks pretty cool, HuskerOmaha. Bet it sounds really good. I liked my MFW-15 sub, dig the Eminence sound myself. Was fortunate enough to not have amp issues.

I know the subs work well in that position, at least the two inside ones. How is the other 80% (SHO-10s) of the sound with all that added diffraction? *ducks*

Think about moving the two outside ones to the rear of the LP?

This GTG was fun, thanks for reading!

How did I miss this?! Looks like you guys had a great and informative time....... Do you have any plans for another GTG in the future? I will have to pay closer attention.

We're doing this as I type. Burn rubber, you might catch the tail end of it.

Hi Technosponge,
I'm still catching up on everything that was accomplished at this GTG including reviewing all the pictures.
Would it be possible to identify EACH of the subs in the pictures by putting a label under each picture? I'm not familiar with any of the subs and can't identify which is which.
Thanks,
Phil

Great job with the GTG guys and thanks for sharing your results and experiences. It's really hard to fit everything in with these events, I always find there is never enough time! I was a bit surprised to hear about the F20 not doing so well. I can't help but wonder if it is simply not suited to this kind of comparison - ie it probably needs more time to integrate it so it will show what it can really do, and you just can't do it here. I also wonder if it really needs to run from say 50 Hz down. So it's hard to say if it was inherently flawed or if something about the integration was creating a problem.

When you guys doing this again? I'm right here in Omaha

So has anyone from this GTG made any sub changes?
I sold my MFW-15 Turbos. Last weekend I put two of the four dual opposed subs with MFW-15 drivers in my living room. I don't have room for all 4! So I went from MFW-15 cabinets with Acoustic Elegance drivers to MFW-15 drivers with dual opposed sealed cabinets. The ported subs used two Dayton SA1000 amps and the sealed subs use one Dayton SA1000 amp. At the blind subwoofer GTG in KC, these sealed subs were my third favorite for music and movies.

If anyone in the Omaha area would like to listen to these, let me know. I actually want to sell them since I am going to build an infinite baffle system.
I have a pair of jl 12w7, I have them in a ported box. I'd like to experiment with dual opposed or sealed, but haven't investigated beyond that.

Can't wait to get some subs in here.

Just watched "The Art of Flight" for the opening 10 minutes. Amazing visuals mixed in with some dubstepish type of beats. Need. Subs. Now.

Download/Buy this film.

Husker - Did you guys ever get the DTS-10 working correctly with the growler to have an audition? I have a pair of Danley's now and I built 2 18" MBM's to basically do what the growlers do but I am wanting a little more so thinking of either picking up 2 growlers or picking up 2 captivators and integrating them in with my DTS-10's.

Any thoughts on this?

We haven't plugged that sucker in yet. It is still at Chris's house. He *almost* has his whole basement and HT done-which looks really great. I think he is almost to the carpet/lighting stage. I think sometime this summer we will need to get over there and get his DTS10 rewired (we think it is wired wrong) and see what it can do coupled with his Growler. I'm sure we can figure it out.

I want someone locally to host a GTG using the measuring/EQ we did in this thread, with the blinded audience like Archaea's, and have the subs behind an AT screen to make it easy.

Takers?

I thought about hosting one depending if I go on the family vacation. The room looks like the L on tetris. The straight part would be 46.6*12; and the lip would be 23*5'. There is a path towards the back which opens up to the other 2/5 of the basement. I would need all the equipment though. I would be able to fill the three tri-corners with thick bass traps. Could put hooks in ceiling and hang sheets with weight on the bottom in front of subs and bring speakers and tv out in front a few feet. Not sure how you guys would feel about a tv for the video haha. Otherwise I can host in about 20 years.

I was rooting for the F20s, since they're the closest thing on the menu to my THT LPs (one of the two under construction - damn, ran out of PL tonight).

Certainly a ton of variation on the scoring - thanks for sharing the results, and the descriptions from the attendees.

I was handing out some 1s on certain movies, from my seating position, I felt nothing where I would expect something, but it must have been the seating position because it was the same for nearly all of them...
Makes sense, must have a seat in a null - must be hard to mitigate seat to seat variations in a sub gtg, since people aren't generally bringing 3-4 of the same sub.

If you are interested, you can see the seat to seat measurements in Post 25. I did these the night before the GTG with the Cinema F20's and with no EQ. I think kcnitro07 was in seat 7 or 8. You can read his impressions in this post. wink.gif

DesertDome no react to bait. Epic fail.

Seriously though, whens the next midwest GTG? Archaea said Sioux City or something?

Just because HuskerOmaha values my input on this, I have to say this is one of my favorites for both video and audio quality. It is also a great story.

Yes, both are great films ... IMO smile.gif

Wasn't there a link to the music tracks we used at this GTG? I coulda swore I saw it at one time...

Still have the eD A7S-450. Looking into a second, but since they no longer offer the LT1300 amp I'm on the fence.
Bigger debate is between the eD Cinema 12 speakers or the SHO's for my LCR upgrade!
It looks like one of the earlier posts might have gotten messed up in the upgrade. However, Archaea has them listed in post #5. Due to the number of sub systems we had, our list was fairly short. I liked the longer music selection at the KC GTG.

Here is the list:

Pomp & Pipes: Vikings
Pete Balasco: Deeper
Eagles: Hotel California
Black Light Syndrome: Duende
Kid Kudi: Day n Night
Deadmau5: Ghosts n Stuff
Basstronics: Bass I Love You

Fix those first couple posts husker. They fell apart in the upgrade. mad.giffrown.gif

I'm probably banned from all get togethers since I never posted my thoughts on the last one...however...not sure I can go to the IA one anyway. I got a lot going on that weekend already.

Yeah, the music at the KC GTG was way better. Especially the Justin Bieber and Britney Spears.

Alright I'll get on it.

After hearing the DTS-10 over at Chris house last night (un-EQd, no idea on crossover, not using the JTR in addition, etc) I am upset we didn't try and check the wiring configuration (no time) at the October GTG. Would have been worth it, I think.
