None of the things I've read on AVS have really addressed the quality of live sound, i.e. an acoustic jazz or folk or blues group/musician playing w/out amplification (PA systems). I've spent many years hearing music in college halls and coffee shops; living rooms, kitchens, basements and backyards and the thing that ALWAYS shines through is;
a) the expertise of the performer, and
b) the quality of the instrument being played (great players can make a poorly constructed instrument sound good. Bad players just sound bad.)

If you can get a recording that sounds like (or reminds you of) the live show, you're on track. If that recording can do that on a boombox, or iPhone, enjoy it, you've won!

Conclusion: Listen to live, unamplified music; wood, wire & brass and set your soul free
