"Once Upon a Time" on ABC HD - Page 8

Any one else wondering exactly how many kingdoms there are in the fairy tale world. At this point we have four or five different kingdoms, the one that Midas is king of, the one Cinderella is from, the snow white/evil queen one, and the one that the prince is from. Also if you want to count the one that maleficent is from that is another one.

My point is how many kingdoms can there be and what exactly constitutes a kingdom in the first place?

As many as they want/need. We have yet to touch on a few and yes what is a kingdom? Beauty and the beast come to mind.

Gives them years worth of material to work with.

Kingdoms for the most part used to be a lot smaller. In its early history, Great Britain was subdivided into a number of kindgoms. Numerous wars brought it to England, Wales, and Scotland, eventually to the United Kingdom.

I would say a kingdom is run by a king, who does NOT owe allegiance (taxes and soldiers) to a higher authority. Typically, his kingdom will consist of his own lands plus lands held by other nobles who owe him allegiance and pay taxes and provide soldiers.

I think they shot their FX season budget this episode with the dragon.

Also- isn't gold a very soft metal, as in too soft for battle? Most Medieval swords were made of steel weren't they? Dragons (according to myth) were supposed to have the toughest of armored hides and unless it was some sort of mystical gold sword (I guess this is as likely as anything when fighting a mythical beast) it wouldn't have been possible to slay much of anything with one. Yes, I know I'm getting nit-picky, but I guess if I was a knight I had a sword made gold I certainly would just throw it in the repository more than the armory.

I kept saying the same thing last night, but it IS a fairytale afterall.

No Red this week. I feel gyped.

Was it me, or was the golden dragon head about 1/2 the size of the real one?

Lucky for him then it wasn't a proper dragon. It was a wyvern!

Those bumbling fools can't tell the difference. They should trade in a few knights for scholars.

Enclosed: One dragon head*

*Dragon heads are measured by weight, not by volume.

Yeah, that's the first thing I thought. But then I thought that if they can magically turn a sword into gold, then maybe they can magically make it stronger than steel as well. So I dismissed the thought.

When the "new" Prince Charming had the dragon trapped in the rocks, why didn't the dragon just torch him? One crsipy Prince on a stick. With that said, I really enjoy this show. There was more & better SFX in this one episode than the entire season of Terra Nova so far.Shh, but I like Terra Nova too.

It was also impossible for a normal man to chop off the head in a single blow, but he's no normal man. He's Charming. A fabled dragon/wyvern slayer and just like Buffy has strength of ten men and can kill anything with any implement no matter how blunt or purely decorative it might be.

The dragon analyzed the situation and determined that in the enclosed area a flame would rebound off the rocks and strike him; therefore, he tried biting the subject instead which led to his demise by decapitation by the impostor Prince with the fake gold sword.

Seems legit.

The potential for splashback damage was my thought as well. It's the same reason you don't use a rocket launcher that close in. The dragon would look pretty stupid if it managed to frag itself.

My comment at the start of the duel: And we're into a Marines commercial.

Traditionally, Dragons are immune to any fire/flame/heat based external attack, even their own.

To many things wrong with this episode that has already been pointed out. Not a fan of this one.

I am getting a bad feeling about this show. Not sure how long they can drag this on with the whole will the remember or wont they. Obviously everyone isn't going to remember or the show would be over. Not sure where they can go with this but we will see.

I've never met a dragon, so I'll take your word for it. Seems he lost his head one way or another.

The Queen is already getting on my nerves as her portrayal as super bitch in our world.

Agree. Someone needs to find that gold sword in Storybrook ASAP and use it.

works for me .. it is a fairy tale after all .. ..

With a SciFi show, we debate the merits of the science ..

With Fairy Tales, I'm thinking anything goes .. ?? Rules of science / physics, out the window .. ??

It must be just me then that thinks she isn't that bitchy. She seems reasonably nice to me. She may have occasionally nefarious plans but nothing I couldn't get past.

No mention of the bottle of MacCutcheon 60 Scotch Whisky they were drinking? I guess we are beyond looking for LOST references now.

Great catch! I completely missed that.

On a related note, I predict at the end of the series finale, it'll be revealed this entire story was a dream of Hurley or some sideways flash of the island.
