Panasonic Plasma Open Box

Both Costco and our local HH Gregg have open box plasma's for significantly less than new. Costco says theirs is about 2 months old and is the display unit. It is an S34 I think. HH Gregg is a GT30. Both are 65 inch.

Would you guys consider an open box model? I was thinking if I did I would get the 5 year warranty on it.

Thanks,

Yes, I would consider one if the price was right and the unit had no damage and an acceptable number of useage hours on it. And I agree 100% on the warranty.

The 5 year is $400 from hhgregg. costco has one for $100 that is 3 years.

Heres what I would do- I would have them unbox it and power it up, check the number of hours on it, make sure there is no IR on the screen, and then if all thats good I would tell them that I want it but I want the 5 year warranty for $200. If they wont do that I'd still buy the TV and look around (Amazon) for EW's and get the best price I could.

The S34 is an S series I believe, with that in mind the GT will have a much better panel and give a deeper/richer picture. If they are the same price, I'd take the GT for sure.

How do you check the number of hours on it?

You have to go into the service menu to get to the hours used screen. The procedure is posted all over the place so just do a quick Google search or AVS search.

Go to high def junkies dot com, click on forums, then click on plasma displays sub forum, then there is a sticky thread on how to do it.

Actually, the 65" costco model is the TC-65PST34. It is the exact same tv as the ST30 (not S30). The only difference is that the costco version has a PC input and does not have DLNA. The costco 65" has the same panel as the GT30, but does not have THX and also the GT30 has a nicer looking Bezel, as well as a few other minor differences. Other then that, they are very similar.

Ok, thanks. Yep, they make special tv's for the warehouse clubs and it's hard to keep up with the differences.
