Modern Warfare 3 - Page 2

Thanks for the recommendation.

I jumped over to the Xbox forum for more info on how MW3 online will work and was REALLY shocked to see the discrepancy in anticipation between our PS forum and theirs.

The Xbox forum has over 3,000 posts on their MW3 thread. We have......28?

Maybe it speaks to the age difference between most PS3 owners and their Xbox360 counterparts. BF3 speaks more to us because we're older and less interested in twitch-shooters and wide open maps that minimize team tactics.

I'm still leaning towards BF3 but I hope both releases are well executed and do well. I'm looking forward to reading AVS user reviews of MW3 soon!

On the flip side check out dark souls here and there.

Xbox people love online shooters, this is no shock. Their Dark Souls thread is like our MW3 thread.

that's what I'm wondering, I haven't been tracking it too lcosly, I know they held off on BF3 reviews to allow for the day one patch to be implemented before issuing reviews...

Because there's an embargo until 12am. Same as the past cods.

Might just be the age thing. My teenager and his friends are definitely jacked up for MW3. PS3 and 360 users alike..

I like mindless twitch shooting at the end if the day. I think all day at work and the don't want to when I play.

I played about 3 hours of mp this afternoon. It's fun but nothing really new. If you like Cod you'll like mw3.

Most 360 MW3 players are older, I am in the middle at 34. Good amount of guys in their 40's and 50's. I think a lot has to do with Xbox Live and how easy it is party up and use party chat. We game in large groups together. Many on AVS own both systems but prefer shooters on the 360. If anything I would say Live is the difference for console choice.

Nothing wrong with that my man!

Review is up at ign.com
I'm picking it up later on.

My copy should be here either today or tomorrow. I pre-ordered from Newegg when it was $48. I am not in a huge rush at the moment anyway because I neck deep in Dark Souls.

Don't forget that the PS3 owner got Uncharted 3 last week so some people are more interested in this exclusive. What was the last crazy excluse the 360 got? Gears 3 last month....

Edit : Also to add, I know for me, i grew tired of CoD. I played MW2 MP up to prestige one. I was around 2 k/d ratio and was "owning" :P

I have a competitive personnality and it seems like I wasn't enjoying the game, I only cared about my stats and kills. Sometimes getting angry and frustrated if games weren't going like I wanted to. Yeah, only to have the biggest e-pen :P (my friends were playing also so it was like a mini-challenge to be the best). i also wasted alot of hours playing.

After that, I asked myself was this why I was playing games? Nope, I want to have fun and enjoy the game, not care about being the best. I haven't touched BO or BF2BC but picked up BF3.

I'm enjoying myself right now, using tactic to counter the other team with my brother and teammates. I still want to be on top and the best, but I don't really care anymore... my e-pen is dead :P

Sorry, I have a hard time believing a bunch of 30-50 year old strangers get together in party chat. Sounds like a sewing circle.

Why would I lie? Go read the 360 thread. There is a list of about 45 AVS members already. Many of us have played COD for years together. Nice having a full squad of adults to game with. Lot of fun times.

.........or one of those cheesy 1-900 "party" phone lines from the '90s. And yes, that picture is Kate from Lost (obviously before the Lost paychecks started rolling in).

Most 360 players are adolescents. Might not be true with AVS members, but it definitely is overall.

I've never played any of these CODs, do they actually have a single player campaign w/ a story, or do people just get them to shoot each other online?

Yes there is a single player campaign which is usually pretty decent and is about 6-10 hours of play. Most people buy the games for the multiplayer though.

A lot of haters on Metacritic right now.......

the sound sucks. i can't hear footsteps at all. it's just like black ops in this area. and unless you like getting shot in the back a lot, i don't recommend this game. i'm gonna blame this on the spawn system.

Really? You should try to rock Tritton AX720's or another pair of decent headphones. There are absolutely footsteps in MW3 and more so in Black Ops! As a matter of fact the footsteps in BlOps are so important to gameplay (assuming you play with a good squad and play for objectives) that there is a Ninja perk dedicated only to silence your footsteps.

The spawn system is nearly perfect because you can't get base raped (except in domination if you're on a crappy team). There is some kind of algorithm that takes into account where most of your team is compared to where the other team is on the map.. well maybe not an algorithm LOL but its pretty darn flawless. Of course beginners will absolutely get shot in the back because they don't understand the map and can't correlate the positioning of their team and the positioning of the objectives to relative to the positioning of the other team and which directions they may try to flank.

Anyways, this game is obviously not for everyone but as a 37yo male that can't spend 45 minutes on one match and spend another 30 minutes trying to make the squad option work and then pray that the chat will work *coughBF3cough* this game fits the bill nicely. Get in quickly, party up and play 4 or 5 15 minute rounds and carry on as an adult. I've got about a dozen good friends I can party up with and we always play for the objective so anyone that says there is no team play in this game has obviously never played with a good squad.

Is it the same game over and over and just rehashed slightly every time? Sure, but COD is so perfect for its fans why try to reinvent the wheel? Look what happened to KZ3.. they took a perfectly good game in KZ2 and turned a lot of fans away by the abomination that is KZ3. But in the end, haters gonna hate no matter what.

I could always hear the footsteps,..in MW2 too.
With my wireless headset from sony,..I can hear everything good.

A few things that frustrate me with MW3 MP:

1. (This also happened in other COD MP) You get the bead on someone about 15-20 feet away unload about 10-15 rounds in them to watch them charge you and knife you to death. Then you watch their kill cam and you did not get one shot off! This happens a few times per round for me.

2. The Maps seem way too small - I spawn and within 2-3 secs I am getting killed from behind. This happens on the majority of the maps.

Otherwise I like the new upgrades and strike package deal. The game is fun, I don't mind a crappy k/d ratio but the above two things frustrate me the most.
there is footsteps noise in mw3 but its not accurate. they will patch it soon. they have been fixing the footsteps sound in all of past cod games in less than a month of release date. the connection is not as good as BO. maybe its too early to tell considering the huge volume of people playing these days. just wait and see.

I went yesterday around 11am with my 6 year old to get her a game for her DSI and the line was out the door at Gamestop wrapped around the building...Crazy! She didn't like the DSI game, so we went back to exchange it around 6pm and the line was still wrapped around the building ...man I never seen this kind of craze since ps3 was released! LOL!

Man I wish I could play shooter games w/o getting nasuea sick.
