Monitor output on Onkyo?

Right up front, I will double post this, but this forum seems to have many members experienced with the theory side, as well as the "been there/done that" side, imo, so....

Finally getting settled, I just decided to go the extra step of connecting my processors (dbx 4BX, dbx SNR-1, ADC 525X and all ran into a dbx 400XG) to my new NR1008. I used the "new" tape input/outputs, lol (now DVR), but I can't seem to find what buttons to use on the NR1008 to enable my new connections. I've clicked the "Monitor" button...and used all of the few choices it gives you, but I know I have not actually engaged the monitor loop.

Something that is probably very basic and obvious, I'm sure, but I'm out of ideas atm. Any help appreciated.

Desperation bump here. Seriously, nobody here knows how to engage the loop for external processors on the modern day Onkyo's?

Again, and to be clear, I am very experienced with how to use all the processors, but just guessing that I'm missing some modern day feature/stipulation/assignment on the NR1008 that allows me to engage my external equipment. I can't seem to locate it in the manual either.

I do not know any modern AV receiver with loop for external audio processor. Even more - there is no receivers that can output PROCESSED audio in digital form.

No way!!??? . Any "modern" receiver with a tape/Rec loop can do this (yes, I realize the ..um..un-moderness of that term), and modern day (DVR in/out) should...theoretically be the same thing....with some kind of accommodation for analog equipment??????

If there is a "recording loop", there should be a way to engage such. I've finally made the effort (and expense) of going to a single system to serve both, HT and 2CH. I only bought the NR1008 to use as a processor, while running other vintage amps to drive it. I connected up my old BX3 for the main pre-pro...and good to go, immediately (no "assigning" etc..).

Seriously? Can others here definitively chime in and confirm this? If I had to go back to a split system it wouldn't kill me, as I have a ton of vintage gear. My biggest PITA would be not being able to input PC music via S/PDIF into a vintage pre-amp for convenience. Geez, if you're right, at least I got a very decent powered AVR (wasn't my intention to begin with).

Show me any reveiver with DIGITAL or MULTICHANNEL recording loop. Even if receiver has output for DVR or audio recorder, it does not have full loop function. And none of them can output digital signal received via HDMI (this is how you connected your player, did you?). AV receivers are design as all-in-one solution, unlike separates in the past. The best you can do is just add external power amp. And even this is only feature of higher end receivers, lower end ones lack preouts. This is common across all brands.

Thanks again, AP1. Someone else substantiated what you said, basically. My reply was this:

Thanks for responding and confirming. I find this to be a great shortcoming of today's "advanced" AVRs. None of them can do what a dbx SNR-1 does (including DDD material and the like), or impact recovery & expanding that a dbx 4BX does, or the more intricate range of an EQ.

This is very disappointing. I should have known better, that these newer model Onkyo's, while moving forward in many areas (I love the NR1008 overall, don't get me wrong on this part), take a step backwards in this very area. A very big damn step back for anyone who knows and appreciates true, dedicated and professional processing that a company like dbx does/did...and that Onkyo/Denon, etc., will never be able to duplicate. Very disappointing.

I will go back to what I always did; separate systems. What a freaking gap in advancement!

Thanks again for replying!
