When do the 2013 Denon's come out? Any new features we should expect? - Page 53

Unfortunatly, the 4520 owner's manual linked above is now protected against access frown.gif
post #1562 of 1844
hopefully someone downloaded it and will share it with the rest of us...

Zooming in on the PDF helps a lot to see that the machine is made in Japan and 'back', 'wide' and 'height' speakers are all labeled "assignable". It is lighter than my 4308A and is the same height. Just an inch or so deeper. It is more beautiful though, and without all those logos. Can I resist it?

Would the Onkyo flagship, 5010 be a better proposition than the 4520, considering the features it presents and the ones expected in the top Denon? I'm not sure if weight has to do with sturdiness, but the 5010 is 25 kg against the Denon's 16 kg.

do you feel lucky?

while there are many happy onkyo owners, given their q/a issues of recent years i would not touch one...

sometimes i think that cem's should just put a hunk of lead weight in the chassis...

"So add it all up and the total "losses" are one composite video input, 2 S-video inputs, and the optical out. Boo hoo. However, you gain a component video output for multizone, the Zone 4 HDMI matrix output, and a 4-port ethernet switch.

I do agree that 6 rear HDMI inputs is a bit meager for a "flagship" product though, 7 or 8 would have been better.... but the idea that they "took away a bunch of inputs" is just false, sorry."

I have Onkyo on the brain.....no Ext input..........but there is something that is the most significant for me..............no Denon Link for my 2930........not Boo Hoo to many of us here........I upgraded from a 2910 that I paid alot for to the 2930 for Denon Link and the Reon.........I think they should have kept it for 1 more cycle.
the abandoning of backwards-compatibility for DenonLink is definitely a bummer, no argument from me there.

Ya big plus in the WAF for me. Really the biggest next to price.

It really is insignificant to go from a 10/100 to a 100/1000 switch nowadays (you can buy an external 4 port gig switch for $4 more on NewEgg)...and creates a bullet point. It also reduces the potential for network failures from handshaking.

What's the likely hood that the 4520 will be rack mountable (i.e. will Denon or an aftermarket company sell Rack Ears for it)? Has Denon ever sold rack ears for its AVRs?

Also, I know this is the Denon thread, but I'm wondering about whether Denon's sister company Marantz will be coming out with a flagship product comparable to the 4520. Anyone know about a SR8007, perhaps?

Middle Atlantic Racks. Check out their Database for custom rack shelves and face plates for any product.

AFAIK, there are 3rd party 4RU kits available for the Denon AVRs.

Yes, the Marantz equivalent will likely be the AV8801.

I can't say I am not intrigued by the Marantz AVP with the specs of the 4520 but with XLR outputs.

That said, I've found Marantz tends to have a "house" sound that's closer to warmer than Denons for the hifi/stereo range.

Will the AVP be the same?

any "house sound" that marantz had in "the old days" is long gone now...
The house sound was still in the Marantz SA-8003 I had a few years back.

the reliability issues aside (real or not) Onkyo still has me nit-picking weay too much, especially for a 2-$3,000 AVR.

STILL no digital outputs to the zones (and no, I don't count the HDMI to the 2nd zone as it has to be DIFFERENT from the main zone which is absurd of course)? Gimme a break.

You can't activate the triggers without powering up (an) the additional zone(s)? Joke. So much for those easily utilizing external amps in the main room. No, I don't want to institute a goofy workaround on a 2-$3,000 AVR, sorry.

Outside of the disappointing 6 HDMI inputs, I can find nothing that persuades me to lean towards the Onkyos.

Just sayin'. Denon does many, many, many things right with their higher-level AVRs.

nice stuff. I think they have a pull out rotating shelf that I could use. But before pulling the trigger does anyone know if a shelving system only 17" high also exist in about 17" width. At middle Atlantic they seem to start at 30".

I keep on buying ancillary equipment while still waiting for 4520. Which Logitech Harmony would suit the best 900 or 1100?

thanks

check out the mddle atlantic "slim 5" racks.... you can get those in 19"x20"... that's about as small as it's going to get...

a 17" wide rack won't work... your components will be too wide... you need 17 inches of "usable width", which makes the enclosure "larger than 17 inches"...

or are you only looking for pull out and swivel options?
where is the link to the owners manual for the 4520 - all I see on that euro site is a link to the 2 page pdf file?

I am looking specifically for swivel options because knowing myself I may need access to rear panel of my gear way too often. I am trying to fit it into salamander designs oslo TV stand http://www.htmarket.com/c-os236-bg.html

After what I read, the 4520 is the receiver for me. I had a 4810, that was just excellent, but I don't know why I just couldn't have BD video in the MICO 50 I bought. I tried different players to no avail. In the RS 25 projector I had no problem at all. I live in Brazil and reliability is very important to me. I lost one RX-Z1 some years ago, and don't want to go through that again.

@shurik...

something like this might fit in there...

http://www.middleatlantic.com/enclosure/roll/srsr.htm

i clicked on the link... the dimensions they list are, ummm, interesting... wink.gif for example, they list an exterior height of 21.5", and an interior height of 27.75"... i WANT me one of those racks that magically expands on the inside... tongue.gif

I'm going with the 4520 over the 3010, but probably for reasons not that important to many. First and foremost, I want DTS Neo 11.2, to drive 11.2 speaker/subs, but with the onkyo you have to use an external amp for the wides when you select 11.x for speaker layout.  My ext amp is a Cinepro 350w/ch x6, that drives my front /center/side surrounds( which are tower speakers),  I only have BA450 for the sides and don't want to power them with 350watts and relinquish my side surrounds to the 140w of the 3010.  A much less concern is the 4K pass thru on the denon and not on the onkyo.  I plan on upgrading my pj to a 4K model in 3 years along with a 4K player, the pass thru will eliminate need to run another cable up the pj, assuming of course 4K pj, players and movies are availble at less than astronomical costs.
