I decided to go with the 5010 and ordered one. I sold the NR 3008 I had and in a short time hope to have my 11.1 back. Gee, it's really expensive, specially when you have to import it, as in my case. I was going to wait for the 4520 release, but decided not. I'll keep this for a long, long time! ! !

sadly, i see way too many electronics "fertilizing" forests here... frown.gif

maybe i'll donate mine to cmbo... since the no-kill shelters have been getting the donations from my "disposed electronics" recenlty... smile.gif speaking of which... i have a spare monoprice 1x4 hdmi splitter sitting here that will never get used again.... usual deal... first person to pm who is willing to make a small donation to their local shelter gets it, i'll pay for shipping (conus members only)...

nope... i haven't at least not on the us model... or are we missing something? i will admit, i am intrigued by that... it's not a feature i need or want, but i sure am curious to see how it works....

edit: just clicked on jd's link, i see it there... amusing note: according to the translation, it comes preloaded with an ipad connected to its usb port... this avr just became a bargain... tongue.gifbiggrin.gif

You mean the "New hybrid PLL Jitter Reducer for extremely low jitter from all sources" and HDMI InstaPrevue aren't enough?biggrin.gif

I wonder if LFC will only be reserved for the new units, or will be available in upgrades. Even for us, I don't think it's super useful in our condo (considering that the only neighbors that would hear the subs in back of the MLP sofa would be mostly service elevator passengers walking their dogs at night), but I wouldn't mind checking it out to see what impact it has on a Pro calibration FR curve, if any. But it's not worth $2400, sorry.

IMHO your best bet is to use the main setup for the PJ, and then feed the 2nd TV with the zone matrix HDMI output and just use the TV speakers or maybe set up a small 2ch setup for casual viewing.

Thank you for your input batpig,

So the 2nd hdmi output would still send out the same audio format as the 4520 itself receives thru its hdmi input ? So my tv has to be able to handle the audio processing itself ? Do i have to worry about hdcp issues with this kind of setup ? (i never had a hdmi matrix switch just read some bad things about them)
I guess i could use an old avr connected to the zone matrix of the 4520

Yes ... HDMI IN ---> Zone 2(HDMI) OUT. Yes, TV must be able to handle the processing or connect to another AVR that can do the processing. Yup, you always have to worry about HDCP when HDMI is concerned.

lol... ummm, no.... tongue.gif

my "guess" is new units only... i doubt we will see a feature pack upgrade (paid or otherwise) for the 4311...

looking for another branch tunnel from the rabbit hole? wink.gif

CCOTENJ, I will take you up on the animal shelter donation for the HDMI splitter.

I even live next door to a lady who volunteers at our local shelter, and she takes in all of the dogs with special needs no one will ever adopt. They have 28 dogs! And, she and her husband do a great job of keeping them cared for and quiet. I will donate to the shelter or to that volunteer's dog food supply...

I have 2 dogs and they take walks with her . . . I think my dogs like her better! :-)

I tried to send you a PM, but kept coming up with error message and would not let me post to your mail.

Do you want to try pm'ing me to see if it will work?

Thanks

OK . . . Was not going to do this . . . But . . . Does anyone know where I can pre-order CONUS a 4520?
I would try calling around to authorized dealers like Electronics-Expo and AVScience and see if they will accommodate you.

Good idea. Will do . . . Thought maybe someone had already done the leg work; I was looking for a shortcut. :-)

...Can't wait... Would anyone know if Amazon does Denon pre-orders as well?

I have a friend in the audio manufacturing industry, who suggested this might be a penny pinching product, made in China, with inferior components (eg capacitors are a mixture of Korean and Taiwanese) compared to the older 4311 and 4810?
This might tie in with the light weight and the lack of big advancements compared to the 4311....

Not sure how true this is, but he does know his stuff pretty well..

It clearly states "Made in Japan" on the back.
try made in japan Via Malaysia...lol

I think the last thing I seen made in Japan by denon was the avp-a1..

otherwise the gear comes out of maylasia/indonesia/china, regardless of what the box or the the embossed logo or sticker states on the avr..

like everything now days, made-in logo's aren't held in high regard like they once were...

"inferior compnents"? unlikely... "cheaper components"? possibly...

there are no "big advancements" right now to be made... it's not like they have "left out" any new tech on the 4520... realistically, there hasn't been any new tech in a couple of years now... which is why many of us 4311 owners are going to stick with what we have, as much as it pains us not to have the new toy...

"weight" is a well over-discussed topic, imo...

No full Manual yet frown.gif

Official Announcement supposed to be at CEDIA Expo Going on now though.

Thanks,

If the slick is accurate, Audyssey LFC is included. Should be interesting to see how effective it is.
the cut sheet says:

audyssey lfc... that's good for some...
ethernet hub... why not a switch? still useful for some...
amp free assign... useful to some...
hdmi matrix switch... useful to some...
4k... whoopie...
notes "sub eq ht" as a feature now (did the 4311 list it out? dunno.)...
am radio... important to some that it wasn't dropped...
c4 certification... interesting...
insta-preview... whoopie...
a bunch of various acronyms that likely will "improve sq"... wink.gif

and for the "weight conscious", it lost 28 ounces vs. the 4311...

if i was in the market for an avr right now, i can't see 7 ben's diff (assumed street) between the 4311 and the 4520...

sigh... i miss the good old days, when new tech getting introduced every year (whether "needed" or not) made it easy to rationalize a new avr...

I don't see any info about using it as a hdmi matrix switch (7x3 hdmi switching is something I would love though).
Inclues a 4-port hub. Why wouldn't they spend the extra $.03 cents to make it a switch. Does anyone even make hubs anymore? The cost for a switch has been driven so low that I haven't seen them in several years. This is a great feature as wired ethernet still blows away wireless for speed and stability. But why bother if it's going to be an old school 10/100 hub from 2001?

Would you mind showing a little proof to back up your claims. My 4311 was made in Japan so you are wrong in that regard. Going by your mindset how do you know that the AVP-A1 wasn't made in Malaysia wink.gif?

It doesn't call it out specifically in the feature list, but this quote is from the slick and seems to confirm some matrixed hdmi capability:

"the AVR-4520CI features the latest high definition video
processing with upconversion to 4K (3840 x 2160) along with 4K and 3D pass through and graphical user interface overlay, including
dual HDMI simultaneous outputs and a third HDMI output for multi zone viewing of another source
"

Ok. So it's a 7x2 HDMI matrix. Not bad.

It is a really weird feature. A 4 port Gibit switch is $30 and doesn't take up much space. Why Did denon bother?

Maybe they need to put the ethernet jack and chip in anyways for firmware updates and figured why not just add 3 more jacks.

re: matrix...

yup... sorry to the op, we had discussed that so much before, i should have pointed out exactly what the cut sheet said and what it implied... redface.gif that will help out a few people... it's "limited", in that it appears (from the cut sheet wording) it will ONLY send a different source to the hdmi zone than what is being sent to the main zone...

they should also really say "upscales to almost 4k"...
