BIC PL-200 Audyssey settings.

Hi,
I am getting ready to run the Audyssey on my new Denon AVR-1912. I have BIC-PL 200 as the sub and Polk 85I as the front, center and the surrounds. I would like to know what should be the settings on the sub should be when I run the audyssey ? I am not sure what direct mode is. this is what I see in the DENON 1912 manual.

** When using a subwoofer with a direct mode
Set the direct mode to On and disable the volume adjustment
and crossover frequency setting.

** When using a subwoofer without a direct mode
Make the following settings:
Volume : 12 o'clock position
Crossover frequency : Maximum/Highest Frequency
Low pass filter : Off
Standby mode : Off

Please advice.

From the sounds of it, "direct mode" may be a feature on only specific subs and lets the receiver control volume 100%. The PL-200 doesn't have direct mode so I would just follow the second set of instructions. Many people suggest instead of putting the volume at the 12 o'clock position, put your subwoofer gain in a position such that Audyssey adjusts the sub level by less than +-1dB (this may take some trial and error).

I'm going to be going through the same thing w/ my Denon AVR-591 towards the end of the week.

So, volume at 12 o'clock and frequency at the highest point is what I should be doing?

Thats a good place to start, lets say you run the auto cal, and on the avr, it sets the trim to plus 10, that means that the subwoofers gain is to low, and visa bersa, if the avr sets the trim at -10, then the gain on the sub is to high, what you want to have is, find the right gain on the sub, so that the trim on the avr is at zero. Hope this helps.

Thank you. So if the AVR is compensating for sub's 12 o'clock, play w/ the volume until the AVR isn't compensating one way or the other.

Do I always keep the frequency up to the highest point? Or is the frequency more a matter of taste?
