Grand Theft Auto V: Out Now On PS3 & Xbox 360 - Page 10

The attempt to give the cars more realistic physics made them less fun to drive and screw around in. The cop chases and shootouts weren't as frenetic as before. The design of the city made vehicle stunt opportunities few and far between (look at the number of stunt vids for GTA:SA vs. GTA4). When they added skydiving back in for TBOGT, it felt awkward and lame compared to the near perfection of the GTA:SA version. It just felt like a big step backward gameplay-wise, even though the graphics were shinier and the story was interesting.

I really hope they've nailed down the right gameplay feel for GTA5. I guess we'll find out soon...

And reading that just made me realize ..... there lies the difference.

I always liked the GTA series but found it fun, yet kooky.

GTA:IV Just isn't as cartoony, absurd as the others. I mean, in no way is it reality, but, for me, it's just not as wonky.

I've tried the past few Saints Row iterations, and none could "hold" me.

It's that comic book style, buzzare kookiness that just doesn't do it for me. And it seemed to me GTA:IV dialed that back just a bit .... just enought, at least enough to where it "worked" for me.

One more week! I've been playing GTA IV again and thinking about some changes I'd like to see.

More random missions and events going on. Outside of seeing a cop chase some guy there's never much going on once you finish the game. How about some robberies or hostage situations? I want to see gang wars, fire trucks racing around town, or just some random pedestrian go crazy and start shooting people until a SWAT team arrives.

And when your friends call I don't want to hear "let's go bowling". How about "I know this bank we can knock over" or "This guy's been giving me trouble. Go hunt him down and blow up his car"?

Other small quibbles:

Get rid of the fish-eye lens effect when you tilt the camera up or make it optional. Never cared for it.

I want to be able to sit down. Yeah, it's silly but I've always wanted to be able to just plop myself down on a park bench or take a seat in a restaurant.

RDR was 20% larger than GTA4.

GTA:

Edit 3: to scale:

The map is about 8 miles by 12 miles, or 96 square miles. Here's another sense of scale:

Which is bigger? The GTA map comparison image is broken.

I would hope given the locations that GTA V is huge compared to the much more dense environment modeled in GTA IV. And since you can travel much quicker, I hope it makes even Red Dead Redemption look small by comparison.

The GTA:IV map seems a bit small. Either that or the streets are bigger and the city less dense in the new game.
Home, so updated the map to upload here (although the comparison is gone, but it was 60% or so larger than GTA4). As far as know those roads are only the major, multilane roadways.

Also, there's a Easter egg in it:

Someone on the GTA V sub reddit page made these movie inspired posters:

2 of my favorite movies of all time and definitely R* used these two movies to inspire some of the heist missions in GTA V.

R* in past GTA games especially in the PS2 era used Goodfellas & The Godfather to inspire GTA III.GTA Vice City they used Miami Vice & Scarface to inspire.GTA San Andreas they used Boyz N Da Hood & Menace II Society to inspire that game.

Nice. I was just thinking of watching some LA crime movies to pass the time until next Tuesday. Bottom one is Heat. What's the Top poster?

Pulp Fiction.

You must be young if you don't know that movie tongue.gif

I'd recommend the watching the following movies leading up to the release for GTA V:

-To Live And Die In La: Really good 80's flick.
-Heat: De Niro, Al Pachino, Val Kilmer, young Natalie Portman, Ashley Judd, Tom Sizemore, Dennis Haysbert, and the movie is directed by Michael Mann.
-Reservoir Dogs: The movie that made Quentin Tarantino.
-True Romance: Christian Slater. The late James Gandolfini playing one of the meanest tough guys, Christopher Walken, Dennis Hopper, and of course the classic & just plain hilarious stoner role played by Brad Pitt.Directed by Tony Scott but screen play done by Quentin Tarantino.
- Falling Down.
-Pulp Fiction: Another Quentin Tarantino classic.
-Jackie Brown: Another Quentin Tarantino classic. But his most hated movie by film fans which I think is total Bull **** and is probably his most under rated film.
-Training Day.
-Collateral.
-End Of Watch.

All of these are action flicks set in LA.

I wish. smile.gif Yeah, it's pretty obvious. I was focusing on the characters I guess.

Haven't seen these two yet but I've heard good things. I'll have to check them out if I get the chance.

Watch them on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video if you have it. Or just bootleg the 1080p blu-ray rips off torrents.

Also forgot to add:

-Collateral
-Falling Down.

Here's a real life comparison 1:1:

Pretty impressive when you realize it was all handcrafted and there's some really dense structures mixed with wide open wilderness. Also, it appears the dark colored band around the map in the ocean is also playable area that you can explore underwater, and it's quite a lot of real estate.

So far so good, as this looks much better than GTA4. I'm still hoping for better missions, and much, much more open buildings this time around. RDR allowed you to go inside most buildings, so hopefully that philosophy transferred over.

Starting to get harder to wait this one out for next gen with the hype.

Not that I will buy a physical game but I hope Sony sticks with the thicker cases for PS4 games. I dislike the flimsy BD case with a passion. The PS3 cases are just about perfect.

Ha ha, oops. That got taken down quick. They still show the PC version though.

I agree about the PS3 cases. Probably the best ever. I understand the need to differentiate PS3 from PS4 but I'm going to miss the clear cases. So much classier than the blue and you usually get some cool artwork on the inside cover.
Ugh, Amazon could have at least posted realistic fakes, to get our hopes up! 😜

I read somewhere that the blue is for Exclusives and the clear cases will be back for normal PS4 games.

If not, there's plenty of places you can buy them on the net for mere cents and just transfer the artwork. Plus its nice to have a few extras in case some of the cases get damaged.

The pictures might have not been official, but usually when Amazon.deE post something, it's because it's in their inventory. Quite often they've posted other games and BD/DVD's months before they're announced in the US.

With Rockstars investment in this game and their huge marketing campaign focused on current gen, my guess is they very promptly called them to take it down. Images like the maps above, and youtubes have been getting taken down mere minuets after posting.

They're protecting their baby like a parent should.

BTW, want to know how to deal with the resell market? Unlock Online a few weeks later!

Definitely, I think it also forces people to get into the SP portion. I know that for multiplayer oriented FPS games, I never touch the SP (BF3 for example). Maybe they also want to make sure people truly experience the game. Any word on review embargos?
Not sure. First sites to review are probably getting favorable treatment from Take Two, so take them with a gain of salt. TT is ruthless at the marketing and favoritism game.

Anyways, found this:

Quote:
Almost all activities from the campaign are available in GTA online: "heists, missions, robberies, assaulting gang hideouts, hijacking armored vehicles, races" as well as "tennis, golf and base jumping"

According to Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies threre's over 500 missions. Some can be completed solo, but others are complicated and require a team.

GTA Online takes place after the main story, familiar faces will make appearances

Rockstar uses a "dynamic" system to populate GTA Online, starting with your friends and crew members, then similarly skilled players in the same part of the world.

The game analyses your playing style as you play and surfaces missions that appeal more to your style.

I ran across this picture that reminded me of a GTA 5 image so I made a quick and dirty comparison. Seems pretty darn close, everything's just compressed together in the game.

Hackers have cracked the preload download that was up on the Euro store AFAIK. So the full game is out there on custom firmware PS3's.

So EVERYTHING

Wait, they seriously didn't hold back the executable?
I doubt it. Pretty sure the entire games was just encrypted, which was easily broken.

Then it was just a matter of extracting the right keys to get it running.
Well that was silly.
