I wouldn't be surprised if that's what was behind the delay. I think it'll make it to next gen much sooner than 2-3 years, I'm thinking more like 6-12 months.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's next gen only. What you see above is absolutely not what you'll get on current gen, and Rockstar has historically been slow to PC release.

So if this was Next Gen only Rockstar is saying buy the game specifically on September 17th and wait to play on your next gen system that won't be released for 2 months after.

I dunno, that looks current gen to me, just with a stratospheric budget. The faces are phenomenal, looks like the LA Noire tech at work with performance capture. Nothing about the lighting or physics seems too far out there. I bet in the final release the frame rate will be really shaky though, just like GTA IV.

I'll be waiting for the PC version. After Last of Us, I'm done with current gen consoles.

We got console release dates? When did I miss that?

smile.gif

Anyways, even if there are this gen version, we already know Rockstar loves to render their promotion material on super dev computers, and not demo the actual product until absolutely necessary. The GTA4 promo screencaps are still out there, and compared to the vaseline smeared, popup crazy game we got...

Their engine has gotten better with MP3 and RDR, but the sheer amount of stuff going on in those screen reminds me of GTA4 promo material. The shadowing is also impressive, for a large open world rockstar game on a console.

Guess well see. I do like the characters and the return of super large regions. But I really want to see mission overhauls and more variety there. GTA4 got tedious quickly.

That would be awesome, I would think a game this size and scope would be completely hindered by current gen consoles.

I can't wait to get home and check this trailer out. I have loved all the GTA's, well except for San Andres. I am sure it won't look the greatest since it will be running on really old tech, but it will still be fun. I enjoy the stories, and then a group of us will get online and just cause mayhem around the city. This is the one game that I would love BC for in the next generation, but I will keep my 360 hooked up for a while so I can still run this with friends.

Yeah, I really think so too. It's coming out so close to the next gen that I can't imagine its a matter of if, but a matter of when. No way they spend tens of millions to develop the game and not a few extra mil to port it to a system it can really shine on. They've got to port the engine to x86 eventually, might as well start with V. I don't think they're coming side by side though - I think they're going to release it before the next gen even drops, ride it for a few months, and go for the double dip around this time next year.

Sad to say, I would probably be one of the people to buy both copies, especially if all my friends jump on the next xbox and our group was going to play it together.

Now that E3 is done, this game needs to hurry up and get released.
I think this will be the last game I purchase for the 360. I put a pre-order in at Best Buy a few days ago. Since this is one of the pre-order titles that will get me $20 in reward zone dollars. Essentially maklng it only $40.
That's awesome. That will be the last game I get before the next gen consoles come out.
Think I'll be getting the launch version as well as the PS4 version.

Have they announced a NextGen version?

No

That's what I thought. Which is why I pre-ordered the 360 version. If there was a NextGen version announced for release by early 2014 then I would just wait. But since it will be out in September I figure it can keep me busy for a couple of months until the NextGen systems come out with new games.

In retrospect...

Still need a release date though!

For the 360 it is a one time install of the first disc and you play off the 2nd. The PS3 has an 8gb install.

I just wish R* would port GTAV over to the PS4/XB1. This game will be the only reason I leave my 360 hooked up once I get my next gen console but, I'm out of inputs and power outlets and will have to remove my Roku to make it work. A straight next gen port would make life easier under my TV.

Get an HDMi switch and a power strip. Problem solved.

Honestly, the next-generation can wait.

GTA V will be waaaaaaaaay better than 95% of Xbox One and PS4 launch titles.

Thanks to the install, the graphics and textures will also look "next-gen".

I am right there with you. While BF4 looked great, I am pretty tired of FPS' games at this point, and a lot of the really good games won't be out for a few months. I am thinking I will just stick with the 360/PS3 combo through the holiday season and let things shake out, and then jump on one of the consoles.
