The Official Acer H9500BD Thread - Page 54

I disabled 3D on the 9500 and it definitely helped with the input delays when switching channels on DirecTV, but there is still a noticeable lag, and it sometimes switches back to default Acer splash screen for a few seconds before showing the channel (but not always, and yes even when switching from one HD channel to another). That is what I find odd. Sometimes it will switch from one HD channel to another HD channel with minimal to no delay and no Acer splash screen, and other times I get a longer delay and splash screen.

Going to play around with a few more things, but will definitely be contacting Acer support. Outside of that, there is nothing else that I can really complain about. Amazing picture for 2D and 3D.

OK my projector guru and trusted advisor is no longer Projector Central. It is now Mikes2cents.

I believe the minimum offset in any case is 2.9" but I would plan for 3". I am having trouble grasping your question about the beam. If you mean the lens is 1' left or right then that ought to work depending on screen size and throw distance.[/quote]

What projector ceiling mount do people recommend?

I've looked at the following:

PCMD All-Metal Projector Ceiling Mount for Acer H9500 (Amazon $60 Free Shipping - No reviews)

PMS-Series Projector Ceiling Mount + FREE Extension - White /Silver /Black Flush mount (Mount Direct $40 + $10 Shipping - Lukewarm reviews)

The former appears to be made specifically for the Acer, the latter claims it will work on over 99% of all projectors. Anyone try these? Others?

Yeah. If Mike's ever in the Los Angeles area, he's welcome to the beverage(s) of his choice (preferably adult), a movie, and a BBQ.

This is the one I used. So easy even a caveman can do it

I have been happy with it. Would recommend it.

That is very hurtful and I will NOT be inviting you to the ice cream social tomorrow. Next thing you know you'll be telling me to get my insurance from Geico.

Sincerely,

Oog

How much distance from the bottom of the beam I mount it on to the middle of the lens? Tell the truth or Oog get mad and start swinging club.

I will measure mine tonight and let you know. If you have flexibility with your screen placement, I think you will be good.

Adding and subtracting inches can be very confusing to cavemen....

Thanks guys. I am far from an expert for sure but as a quasiphile I know what I like and what is not as it ought to be, or what I do not like. InCali below is part of a post I made on the 24th or 25th last month. Based on what you are saying you ought to be OK but I do not guarantee anything lol standard disclaimer stuff. I did not get a full 15" of horizontal shift. I posted pictures of my unit ceiling mounted. I will dig that up and add one to this post showing how I had to mount to the side somewhat to avoid a column.

In my boring measurement exercise I noted that the 5% offset is about right but the lens shift numbers are far less. I noted that there was a max of about 13" horizontal shift with zero vertical and surprisingly less vertical shift at about 11" with zero horizontal shift. That is nothing like the manual says with my particular unit so beware if you need a greater offset. If you are counting on anything greater than about 14" of offset you may be taking a chance based on what I saw. I was easily able to obtain a 120" image at about 13' 3" of throw. I will not be testing max throw because of a wall.

Here is one of the pictures. It is not high quality but you can see the column and also my ceiling fan which I removed a light kit from and raised up as high as I could to avoid lowering my screen. You can also see that my screen is rolled up but you can make out the right edge of the case above my DLP TV. If you are curious about my mount or want to see a few more pictures of the unit mounted check my post dated the 7th or clicky this: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...1369451&page=4 and scroll down.

I think I'm going to have to get Hunter S Thompson to channel that picture for me.

"There's a lot of lines goin' a lot of different ways and if I don't get another beer, I'm never gonna find out where the center of the screen is."

That picture is obviously my 61" DLP TV that you see. My screen is rolled up in the case and the PJ is not even powered on. The center of my actual projector screen is about 1" to the right of the grid that you see where my mount goes into the ceiling. That gives about a shift of about 2" to the left in my case because I mounted the PJ up front to cut down lens shift and keep brightness. Keep this in mind because blacks would have been better when moving the unit back.

Well I had my second auto shutdown this morning. The thing was only on a few minutes and when switching from pc to cable it just turned off. Called Acer and they're having me send it in.

Do they cross ship a new unit out?

Has anyone hit 100+ hours yet without a shutdown?

No, they said 7-10 days to fix it. I also found this kind of weird. They tell you not to ship it back in the original packaging, but make a new box for it . They did give me a shipping label, but I'd sure feel better if it was all snug it's own case and box.

OK. I can see it now. I think I'm going to set up that rail system I was talking about to make it easier to move forward and back.

I ordered the PJ and mounting hardware yesterday. The Acer has already shipped and is scheduled for delivery Friday. I have some work to do when it gets here. I have long HDMI cables (40') because my cable box and DVD are at the front of the room. I suspect I will have trouble with the 3D part of this and will probably have to end up moving everything to the back of the room near where the projector is.

I am very close. I had a shutdown, but it was the plug not being fully seated after I made some adjustments. I have not had a shutdown that produced the error codes that others have. Should hit 100 hours by the end of the week.

On the projector mount I referenced above, the center of my lens is 6.5" from the ceiling. The top of my screen is 8 3/4" from the ceiling. I am using minimal vertical lens shift.

I have my screen hanging from some chains and can easily shorten them the necessary 2.5 inches. I have a looong run from my devices, but just found some reasonably priced hi speed HDMI cables which are "HDMI 1.4 cables" (sic) from Sewell for under $20 each. That means I don't have to move my cable box and DVD. I'll try the cables I have, but don't really expect them to work. I'm getting pretty stoked. I should have everything by this weekend. I wish they'd hurry up and release "Hugo".......and "Tintin"....and....

I understand the anticipation I had my Acer in a box for a month or so while I was finishing my room and would take it out from time to time and display it on a wall. You are in for a treat with 3D. I much prefer watching it at home vs the theater.

Oh yeah....one other question. I understand the projector ships with 1 pair of glasses. Does it use DLP link or IR? Which are the best glasses people have found? I have a pair from dimensional optics which I use on my 73" Mits, but I'm guessing those won't work. I think I read somewhere that the glasses that come with the projector give everything a green tint??

They come with one pair and are DLP Link glasses. There are lots of posts on the glasses, but I believe the concensus is:
- The Acer glasses seem to work very well, but you cannot readily buy extra pairs right now. I have no idea what the holdup is.

I personally would recommend the Optoma Z101 glasses:
http://www.amazon.com/Optoma-BG-ZD10...9248448&sr=8-2

With the caveat that they are a little large (which I actually prefer when I do where my glasses vs contacts) and the arms do not fold in. The PQ is identical to the Acer IMHO and they are a little larger and not white like the Acer glasses.

There is also these (I owned a pair for a brief amount of time before I accidentally crushed them). I thought they were comparable to the Acer and Optoma glasses.

Optoma also has a ZD201 model that looks quite promising but can only be found outside of the US and gets pricey with import and shipping.

Definitely stick with DLP Link.

I have a big melon, so the Optoma's should be just right for me.

Thx.

What error code and where is it recorded?

Started this poll for when you guys get enough hours on your exchanged units:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1394137

Also for people that have had no issues after 50 hours even on their original unit, they should vote too.

When the projector shuts down improperly lights will flash on the PJ, and there is a list of what the corresponding lights mean in the manual (overheating, etc). Someone listed all the error codes in this thread a few pages back.

I am running a 50' cable for mine with zero problems. Blue Rigger brand from big river. I believe my AVR might amplify my signal though so I suspect mileage may vary on 50' cables. I bet you are stoked to get the PJ as I was. Hmmm Tiger is still the only vendor stocking this unit. Hmmmm.
