That's good news smile.gif
Do you know which firmware version your projector came back with ?
Would be good to be able to mention that info to ACER, so that they make sure to update to at least that revision.
Thanks.

I do not know about all this black border problem I have been reading about because I have never seen it and quite frankly I suspect an input setting problem. My unit worked flawlessy here. Matter of fact I am hoping that my returned unit will be very close to perfect for my purposes.

As I understand it, this is the "only" firmware update available and it is certainly the latest. As a matter of course, ALL companies will update to the latest firmware rev unless there are unusual circumstances; which isn't the case here. If you send your Acer in and ask for the update, you'll get the right one.

Attaching my photo of the service menu (the one where I got "really" smart and actually pressed the correct buttons....hooray for me...).

Please see Mike's post #3422 for an explanation. Service Menu.JPG 2342k .JPG file

Mike doesn't think it's the "Scaler Ver.", but note the date??? That's sort of confusing......

Can you help me to test the black border problem when you get your projector back ? phillyninja sees the same problem as well. I don't know if this is normal or if I should send it back to Newegg. I am hoping more owners would chime in.

What I'll do is back off on the zoom tonight and see if there's a black border on the white screen. The way I have it adjusted now, there could be a black border and I just can't see it due to the border of my screen. Kinda think Mike is right...probably a setting issue. I'll copy my settings and send them too.

Also, NewEgg only gives you 15 days to return. You should call Acer tech support, tell them the problem and get the RMA before your time runs out (if it hasn't already). Otherwise, you have to send it in to Acer for repair. If you call Acer customer care, get to level 2 support asap. It's unlikely that level 1 will "be able to help you with your problem if they can just put you on hold for 3 short minutes......".

Also, my son flew into Altanta on June 30th with his friend for his annual trip to visit his friend's grandparents. He said he thought he was going to melt......it sounded pretty brutal. Fortunately, the grandparents have a shaded swimming hole.

I will be more than happy to look for it when I get my unit back because I never noticed it before.

On that note I got notification that repairs to my unit are complete and they will send me a tracking number when they get one. So I got on support chat to find out what was done to my unit and this is what I was told:
Quote:
Praveen Polaki: I have checked the information and found that our technicians updated firmwares, replaced lamp cover latch and also tested HDMI, VGA and composite inputs and made sure that everything work fine.

So with any luck I hope to have my unit Wednesday if I get lucky and it ships out today. Surely no later than Thursday. So far so good.

Are you speaking with level two support? If not ask them to go there.

I backed off on the zoom and didn't see any black border unless no picture constitutes a "border". The only settings I could see that might cause something like this were aspect ratio and HDMI Scan Info (I have auto and underscan set) in the Image menu and auto screen??? (on or off don't seem to make a difference) in the settings menu.

Here are some pics of the black border. I tried overscan, underscan, changing aspect ratio, etc. and they don't do anything. The entire DMD is lit but the picture is not filling it.

I will see if I can get a picture of it as well. I tried to look up close and from what I can tell I did not see any pixel structure in the border area itself (not sure if I would be able to see them in black content anyway) that would indicate underscan. I will try out the hdmi settings that were mentioned as well. From looking at your pictures it seems like your border is larger but it is tough to tell without seeing the whole screen as a reference.

I don't understand what is the problem? is this pb appears after the upgrade?

That's the same as the Optoma HD33, a small number of pixels around the perimeter are unused.

This has got to do with some settings. It looks a well defined border and does not give any indication of any malfunction..

I don't have anything like that. I'd try doing a factory reset and proceed from there without any major tweaking. If that doesn't work, I'd contact Tiger or New Egg. It's Tiger that gives you 15 days by the way....I don't know about NewEgg, but think they only do replacements and not returns....that'll delay you getting the PJ as they have to receive it before shipping you a new one. What I did with Tiger was to buy a new one, returned the old one, and got a credit a few days later. That sped up the process by 3 or 4 days.

I have the new firmware and have nothing like this so it's not the firmware update.

Oh yeah.....call Acer support asap and get level 1 off the line as quickly as humanly possible. Maybe level 2 support can help you get rid of it if it's a setting, If not, get an RMA to return it. If they give you any $#!T, tell them other owners on the forum aren't having the same problem.
I have a tracking number and mine is scheduled to be back here tomorrow. I do not even need to think hard after looking at the pictures because I can say with certainty that mine did not have a border like that before I sent it in. I would have seen that right away. As for the other things I sent my projector in for, we shall soon find out.smile.gif

I think this was asked already Ranger but did you verify that the border is there when viewing other sources? Like trying a different Blu-Ray player, VGA connection, etc? These devices have their own overscan settings.

I will try a factory reset tonight. I got a RMA from Newegg few days ago and have 14 days to return for a replacement.

I tried 2 different blu-ray plays, different hdmi cables, WDTV Live media player, HDMI input 1/ input 2 and they are no go. I can try components and VGA tonight.

Looks darn similar to H9500BD, chassis and remote as well.

No lens shift though..
