DDP3021 Ver.A06
MEMC Ver. B01

And I just heard back from the Acer rep a few minutes ago.

(From Acer) "The information I have to share is that all units are scheduled to receive the firmware update before they begin shipping to customers. If for some reason someone does not get the update, we will of course take care of the issue for the customer and pick up the shipping if the update needs to be applied."

Well, there we have it. It's been a bit of a long road.....or at least seems like it to me.....I'm interested to hear how things are coming along in France with the updates and whether we have any RBE sensitve friends with the 50Hz 6x model who can see rainbows.

There was some talk about 3D resolution and whether it was true 1920x1080. I can tell you for "sure" that I can easily see the difference in FIOS 3D and the frame packing 3D blu ray. Mainly motion blur and resolution.

I still paid for one way shipping, they refused to pay both.

I just checked support site using nu case-id (and also SNID) and the status says "Expired". What the heck that means? (Another chat with Acer?)

I received a call today from Acer Spain, it's very intriguing, they told me they are waiting a piece replacement from Taiwan.
I sent it for a firmware update, but they are replacing pieces. Very strange.
Anyway, it seems I'm going to wait a very long time before I see my projector again. Pity.

And to sars....please see the PMs. If you already paid, I don't know what's going to happen, but I'm pretty sure you can get free shipping in advance.

Sorry if there was any miscommunication.

I can't speak with any certainty, but I waited until they got the cables necessary to do the firmware update. There was some confusion as to whether or not there were replacement parts for the projector. Everything I know said that the current Acer hardware supports the new firmware. No replacement parts were necessary.

Incali, can you please ask to your acer's friend to confirm the firmware in France ?

I'll "try", but am not sure the "Acer USA" guy will be able to find out. Do you have the 50Hz model?

I've sent my projector to ACER France on the 8th of August.
Timeline is as follow:
- 08th : shipped
- 16th : They received it (Yeah for french Chronopost...)
- 22nd: They send me a quote
the Mother Board is covered under warranty but the lamp door is broken they say (yeah like it isn't a defunct on most projectors)
2 euros to pay for the stupid door + 19 euros for work.
They could have maybe covered it for free considering that the main defunct is their fault.
Anyway, as to not loose more time I've accepted to pay for the quote to fix the door.

29th: I didn't receive a notification yet but the projector just updated as "ready for shipping" on their page.
Whoohoo. wink.gif

It's unclear if they replaced the motherboard or only flashed a new firmware..

But at least they seem to be aware of the problem in France too,
unless they misunderstood everything, and nothing will be fixed when I get it back wink.gif
Wait & see & hope it's fixed when I receive it in a few days I guess wink.gif

Wow!!! That's some impressive shipping time. What did they do? Deliver it by horse and buggy? Hope you get it back by the end of the year.....

Did they ever confirm that the firmware was available? I can't tell if by the motherboard that you mean firmware. Was there a problem with the motherboard or was it sent in specifically for the firmware? 19 euros to replace the door???? I wish I got paid at whatever hourly rate that works out to.......

At least in the US, they don't replace the board, they just update the firmware.

WTF??? Were they sampling the grape juice along the way? smile.gif

From Wiki.....

Chronopost International, a member of the La Poste group, provides express shipping and delivery service both domestically (in France) and internationally.

Domestic services comprise mostly next-day services, with some variation depending on the exact delivery locations, for packages and documents weighing up to 30 kilograms (66 lb).

I got an email from Acer saying that all of the resellers should now have projectors with updated firmware. If you buy one and happen to get the old firmware, let me know and I'll make sure you get free shipping, but if you ship it and pay, you may not get reimbursed.
I sent it specifically for the SBS and HDMI blurring issue,
stating that the latest firmware with the references you gave, seemed to fix that issue. smile.gif

They never really told me anything, beside on the quote it was noted that the 'motherboard issue' was covered under the warranty.
So either they changed it and hopefully it comes directly with the new firmware or they just flashed the new firmware on it maybe smile.gif

I don't have more info, but I'll find out when I get it back.

As for chronopost, for some reason it stayed until the 14th into the local post office.
Yeah not very efficient wink.gif

I got mine about 2 weeks ago throught Amazon (Tiger was the seller) and it has the old firmware. I should have waited a little longer... Could you send me the info to get it shipped and updated?

On a separate note, I've noticed something troubling. On two separate occasions, the image went blank and the blue light on the projector flashed repeatedly. The owners manual said this was an issue with the lamp 'resetting' or something to that effect. Last night, I noticed a flickering of the image. I have HDMI from my receiver into the projector and saw this flickering on multiple sources (satellite, Blu Ray player and Xbox). I turned the projector off and on again and he flickering stopped. Any ideas? Bad bulb? Bad projector? I have less than 10 hours on this unit.
Return it. Doesn't sound normal. I haven't seen any of those issues in 75 hours.
I have to agree. If you can return it just do so because I have never had any of that and you will hopefully get a new unit with the new firmware.

Edit: if not, contact Acer, they have been very good with this unit and try to elevate your case to at least second level. When you speak with the right people you get taken care of.
Ugh! I was looking forward to having it for the first weekend of football! I just completed a form on Amazon for the return and got a confirmation email stating they would send the request to Tiger and I should hear back within 48 hours... This is my first purchase from Tiger. Anyone have any experience with returning something to them? What are the chances I will have a projector (hopefully with the new firmware) by Sept 9th? I think I may be praying and throwing up a Hail Mary.....

Call Amazon/Tiger immediately! You may be in the return window (15 days I believe). What I did was arrange for a refund and bought a new one. That got me my new PJ quicker than waiting for them to receive it.

You'll get the new firmware with the new PJ. I had a very similar problem with one of my PJs. If you're outside the return window, you'll have to send it back to Acer for updating/repair.

I'll PM you and give you the contact info in case you need it. Hopefully you'll get new.

Tiger is good.....better than NewEgg (also very good). NewEgg doesn't (or didn't) do refunds....just exchanges. Tiger will do a refund and send you a new PJ. Your credit card gets dinged for an extra PJ for about 4 days and then it gets credited. It's the fastest way to get a new PJ. With NewEgg, they wait to get your PJ and then send you the new one.

If you see ANYTHING odd, return it (this is from experience). Don't assume it's an oddball occurrence.

You should "easily" have it by the 9th if you are in the refund/replacement window. If not, it's a little dicier......to put it another way, if you have to send it to Acer for repair/update, you might not have it. If this is the case, let the Acer rep I PM'ed you about know what's up. He'll probably try to help you out. He's a good guy and has been very helpful.

Acer USA has no idea whatsoever how this is being handled in France. We're pretty sure, however, that Acer France has the update and will update your PJ as timduru has sent one in and it has been "completed" (we are pretty sure that means updated and should know for sure any day). Read the earlier posts on this page. You might want to consider another shipper or maybe timduru's experience was a one off.....

Whether the PJs are shipping with the update or not, we have no idea. I'd ask the reseller and try to go up the line from there.....

Thanx for your attention Incali.
I read all the post. I saw timduru's post and I'm waiting for his conclusion.
Other french people on the thread are waiting too ... smile.gif

Hopefully Chronopost does a better job sending it back than it did getting it there or next year's model may be out by the time we find out for sure whether or not it's been updated.....or we may all be dead. eek.gif Reminds me of some of the shipping companies here in the states. wink.gif
post #3837 of 4744
Oh.....one other thing......for those of you who are considering buying the Acer, keep an eye on the prices this weekend as they tend to drop on holiday weekends. The NewEgg 10% off of $1649 coupon is as good as we've seen, but you never know. It's a little off thread (ok a lot), but if any of you are looking for blinds, Select Blinds is having a killer sale through Monday. 30% off and buy 3 - get one free. By coincidence, I have 4 windows in my front room and am getting 4 custom cut, inside mount blinds with mounting hardware and valances for $100. You pay more than that at Home Depot or Lowe's for cheapo window coverings.

I've bought from them before and they have good quality blinds as well as first rate customer service. They once forgot to send hardware and immediately sent me a $20 gift certificate for my trouble.

Well I got it back, Chronopost was definitely more efficient, got it in one day wink.gif

The good news is that the blurr over HDMI is definitely fixed.
The tearing of the SBS content is mostly fixed

It seems to depend on the resolution/freq though
Here is what I found out so far:
- 1080 SBS 24 => Not fixed
- 1080 SBS 50 => Mostly fixed, I almost don't notice tearing anymore.
- 1080 SBS 60 => Mostly fixed, I almost don't notice tearing anymore.

In 50/60 it seems there is some kind of lag around the middle of the screen, but definitely nothing compared to the "sharp" tearing of the image before.
Might be more related to accu motion not being perfect, nothing major.
1080 60 seems to be giving the best results.

And image is definitely much sharper than in my previous viewing of SBS material.
Just looking at the Computer desktop image I can tell it is correct now too.
(Before the text was all blurry, now it's sharp and you see all pixels)

Looking at the manual, Top Bottom 1080 24 is supported , but not SBS 1080 24 actually which is kinda weird,
but I guess that we can't complain on that one in that case wink.gif

4 HDMI - 1.4a 3D Timing

1080p (Side by Side (Half)) 1920x1080 60 67.5

Only difference with the US firmware seems to be the MEMC version. Whatever that is.

Can you please tell me where do you send your vp in France ?
I don't have the address on hand, but I can find it back .

But you should not ship it directly to them.
the way it work is that you need to first file an rma request on their website or call them.
Then if they accept, they'll send you a Chronopost sticker that you have to print and put on the package, the sticker will include the address and everything ready to ship.
(they paid for both way shipping)
