Thanks Mikes2cents. I have family coming in for the Christmas holidays so I need a pair or 2 so I believe I might give them a shot. Do the 3D Heaven UCs have any noticable Tint differences compared to the original Acers. I was considering the DO glasses InCali was talking about but I don't think I would like a yellow tint.

Hello everyone in the forum. I'm stilling rockin' my Acer H9500BD and could not be happier. I finally got a Tivo premier and watched my first DVR Seahawks game from the free OTA broadcasts. Live TV looks really good on the Acer.

Couple of questions for those that have done the firmware upgrade: 1.) If you are pleased with the projectors' picture would you still send it in? 2.) I think that someone said there are new color modes you can access or save(or is that my wishful thinking?)

Also, has anyone played with the internal iris settings and optimized how they work? I always have the iris on medium on blu-ray movies, but off for TV, games and streamed movies for the most part.

Does anyone know where you can purchase the same glasses that came with the projector, preferably in black?

I still have the occasional red/blue lights blinking, and shut off, but usually have no problem booting right up. This has happened about 5 times in 10 months.

Yes I would and did send my projector in for the firmware update. It is a subtle but important improvement. Also I would have them address your shutdowns. That has only happened to me once, maybe you have a heat issue?

The iris settings have been detailed in this thread so time to break out the search wink.gif

I believe the black acer glasses are the optima zd201 models if you can find them.

I have a number of ongoing problems with my Home Theater but the Acer seems to be very solid. I looked back in this thread and saw that InCali had suggested that those vertical lines which made me return the projector might have been caused by my receiver which went out shortly thereafter. I think he's right. That means I haven't actually had any problems with the projector at all. It also means I owe more thanks to InCali.

All is well except the 3D glasses.

I would like to get a pair with bigger lenses. The 3D section of the AVS forums does not have a specific glasses section. I think we need one. I have questions. For example:

  • I see on Amazon that there are now some much less expensive glasses. There are a couple brands for around $25. Are they any good?
  • At three time that price there are the ones from Monster. It looks like they have a converter that changes the IR to RF. Or maybe I'm reading that wrong.
  • Should I get a rechargeable pair? My Acer glasses are still one the first battery. How long will it last?
  • Which are the best brands? There's a new Titanium pair that look cool. How about PlayStation?
  • Are there any glasses that are higher performance?

I have had a lot of problems with 3D. I rented two 3D films and neither one played properly at least at first. I have three 3D devices and two 3D sources. I have the Acer projector - active glasses. I have a new 3D Vizio flat screen TV - passive glasses. And finally I have the Sony video helmet - two separate OLED screens. I have a 3D Blue-ray player and I have Comcast cable with Starz. I can rent 3D movies from cable at about the same price as I can rent a Blu-ray 3D disk (about $7).

The helmet is not too comfortable to wear. It's hard to wear the damn thing for a whole movie. The TV is very easy to watch with its light glasses, but the picture is only 32". My screen for the Acer is nine feet (110"). The Acer active glasses are much more trouble. The glasses are thick and the lenses are small. When I watched a free (to Starz subscribers) 3D movie (Priest) the other day the 3D picture kept burbling. It was unstable and irritating. The free 3D demo films never had this problem. I'm going to try it again. The Blu-ray disks also have problems. The Avengers wouldn't play at all. A message came on saying I needed a 3D player. Of course I have a new 3D Panasonic player and I have the latest firmware update. I played around with it and then it suddenly worked. I was just about to send it back.

I'm going to conduct some tests but these will be of necessity be subjective. I'll post my impressions here.

Other than the Acers, I only have the DOs and they do have a yellowish tint. My recollection is that others have said the Optoma 101 glasses function as well as the Acer glasses, give you more room for regular glasses (have bigger lenses??), but don't fold up. The 201s look cool, but cost more dough.

Power - left - left - menu.

I like doing 70 max 10 min 10 offset. That seems to be a more subtle setting than medium which usually pumps too much.

Yes, kind of a greener tint but it is not bothersome to the folks I let use them. I do not know why they are greenish but may have something to do with offsetting the red flash DLP link used in some units, or maybe the white flash? More probably I do not know why the color difference.smile.gif

I wonder if the DOs use the same lenses??? I described it as a slightly yellower tint with the Acer glasses having a bluer tint. The yellow could definitely be as accurately described as greenish if you think about green being on the way to yellow from blue (I have to say, that's the worst explanation for something I've ever written.....).

Ordered the darblet yesterday. I'll futz around with it and let people know what I think (hopefully with a semi intelligible post biggrin.gif ). Do people know whether it will require any recalibration? I used the Disney WoW disk and the settings suggested earlier in this thread (timduru?? sars??).

Since the darblet only has 1 input and 1 output, where did you put it? Does it feed the eecolor or the dsplay directly? I think someone else said the darblet should connect directly to the PJ??? If so, I'll want a good, auto sensing hdmi 1.4a compatible switch. I thought someone had a recommendation, but can't find it. I like this idea anyway as I can use a single input to my PJ. If someone has a switch that works really well with the darblet, please let me know. Thx.

The Optoma glasses are on Amazon. Others have said they are the same as the Acers but don't fold.Maybe if there is just casual use, the non-folding aspect isn't a big issue? My dog prefers the Acers because they fold and he has kind of a skinny head wink.gif

Sony Playstation 3D Glasses do not work with the ACER 9500.


Or at least I can't get them to work. I guess all DLP-Link glasses are not alike after all. This research cost me $30.

Thanks for the info. I've seen many different manufacturers with DLPlink glaases while trying to find some extra glasses and I worry about trying any that aren't mentioned in this thread. Sorry you had to find out the way you did.

I am bit confused with the Dynamic black setting.
So when you have the DA set as 70/10/10, what do you do with the "Dynamic Black" in the Advanced Menu. Set it to off. Because the next setting on it is Middle and as you mentioned it keeps pumping..

I was talking about in the service menu that you also asked about. You probably want to stay away from mucking with it unless you are very comfortable with breaking things.

I used timduru's settings so this is almost exacty what I have, but turned off dynamic black. I used the Disney WoW disk and these settings looked dead bang on according to the calibration disk.

Wow.....1199 is by far the lowest I've seen. It looks like the new PJs are having an effect on the cost of last year's models. Yet another point where we ask ourselves whether or not we should buy. The new BenQ got some good reviews, but not good 3D reviews that I've seen. I don't know about latency for the new model either.

Hi guys,

do u all install UPS for projector to prevent any sudden power loss? i only install surge protector for the projector and consider getting UPS for it to prevent any sudden power loss to have some time to properly shutdown the projector to cool down the bulb to prevent damaged.

I use a UPS. The one I have (APC) uses a better suppression system than most. I put it together from spare parts for free so I really like it wink.gif You can pick up something that will work for $50-60 (or more if you are so inclined). The next time I design a home theater, I'm going to make sure everything is close to the projector. I'd rather use shorter HDMI cables and would like to be able to plug everything into a single UPS. I can't really see a downside to that other than pointing the remote behind me or up.

Hello, Could someone tell me how to set up checkerboard on Acer H9500BD for playing Games on PC at 1080p/60Hz please ?
I can't stand 24 Hz to play and 720p is not a good solution... frown.gif

If you're buying from NewEgg, I suspect the firmware will be updated, but I wouldn't take my word for it. Is there someone out there who has bought the Acer in the last month or so?

If you really want to buy the Acer, I wouldn't worry about a week or two delay if it has to get sent back. Acer will pay for shipping both ways. As I've said before, I'd insure and have FedEx pack it for about $20. Also, look into the new BenQ1070 (on the forum) and be aware that others (Optoma, Acer, etc.) will be offering up new products soon. Kraine has said the new BenQ looks really good (HiFiFun has commented earlier in this thread), but there may be some 3D shortcomings with the new BenQ (according to Kraine).

IMO, there's no perfect time to buy a PJ. Right now, prices are really low. You can guess and go with the new product or opt for the known with more assurance of what you're getting. Welcome the wonderful world of the consumer. eek.gifsmile.gif
