I have an Onkyo 1007 receiver and a Windows 7 PC with a lot of Apple Lossless music files. I know I can play music on the PC on the Onkyo if I use Windows Media Player, and I know I cannot use iTunes to do that (or so Onkyo tells me). I don't want to use WMP because it won't play Apple Lossless.

So can I set this connection up using VLC? I think it should work, but I don't know how to do it. I've been hunting around for a solution but to no avail.

My question isn't specific to the Onkyo. What I am asking is: How can I send music from VLC on my PC over my home network to a networked stereo receiver.

(It shouldn't matter, but I can easily do a hard-wired connection -- doesn't have to be wireless.)

If it won't work, I'll buy a Squeezebox, but that seems like overkill for my purposes.

And if this is not the right forum for this question, just let me know that.
