What's wrong with this picture?

Other than the price, what's the difference between the Jobsite Fg01238 and the Niles SW10? I can't see it...

Not too uncommon. There's a 6.5" sub sold by energy, mirage, and one other company that I can't think of right now. Near as I can tell, they're the same sub with different logos.

That one wouldn't surprise me actually; Klipsch, Mirage, Energy, Acoustic Research, Jamo and Athena are all owned by Audiovox, so I would imagine you'll see a lot more of that from them in the future.

Turns out Jobsite is actually a division of Niles Audio. Wonder why the Jobsite version is so much less expensive...

Harman International owns brands like JBL, Infinity, Harmon Kardon, AKG, Crown, Revel, Lexicon, just to name a few...

D&M Holdings owns Denon, Marantz, McIntosh, Boston Acoustis, Snell Acoustics and Escient.

In theory competition is the way to go, but monopoly sure feels good as a business owner.

Yep...

Energy ESW-M6 = Mirage MM6 = Jamo Sub 800

Not a surprise, since they've all been owned by Klipsch for awhile, and are now owned by Audiovox.

You beat me to it.

Since the Audiovox takeover, there have been some el cheapo Jamo's that were rebranded as Energy speakers and had quite the price hike at Future Shop compared to what the equivalent Jamo's are selling for...

I knew about a bunch of these already, but there are a few I wasn't aware of. There are some very good names among that list too. Let's hope this consolidation trend doesn't end up with a lot of very solid brands becoming watered down facsimiles of what they once were. That would be very unfortunate indeed...

It appears as though the damage is already being done; turns out Snell and Escient were shut down in April of last year. Escient I can't really speak about, but I know Snell made some very nice products. What a shame.

I know nothing about Escient either, however, the Snell Type A and Type B were considered truly excellent speakers.

This picture can't begin to show exactly how the Type B is constructed. On the rear is a subwoofer and a second tweeter. When tested, the Type B had as flat a response as any speaker I've ever seen tested.

I heard the Snell Type D and it had one of the best mid-range's of any (out of dozens) speaker I ever heard.
