Which screen is better?

Carada is uncoated PVC. Da-Lite has an optical coating.

No optical coating = no flaws. Optical coating can enhance image.

I'll bet you cant tell the difference in the image. Both make high quality frames. Just pick one. 1.3 gain is all the same.

choosing the right screen depends on the characteristics of the projector to be used (i.e. native brightness and contrast), the amount of ambient light that will typically be present, the color of the walls/ceilings/rugs, whether or not there are exposed reflective surfaces such as windows and mirrors, and the width of the viewing area. Since none of these conditions were stated, it would be difficult to respond meaningfully to the poster's question.

Let me lengthen my sentence. "I'm a happy customer of the Carada Brilliant White with the JVC RS20 in a bat cave"........

you'll appreciate the extra gain, should you go with a bigger screen. You can always close down the lens aperture if it's too bright in normal lamp mode. Plus I'm sure the 55 will be awesome for black levels HAVE FUN!

I got my Carada BW 115" 2.40:1 screen for around $730....that was with free shipping for the summer....maybe they can honor the free shipping. This was the 'precision' frame, and not the criterion, although the black border on the precision is still very nice! I think that AVS sells Carada now...maybe give them a call???

Given all the variables and goals and budgets stated, a Da-Snap with Cinema Vision material sounds like your best choice. The RS55 may start out at 1300ANSI, but calibrated it will be less and it will fall off at the rate of about 50% over the first 400 hours or so. Given this and given your desire for a large screen, you will definitely need to have some gain. Cinema Vision is 1.3. If you intend to watch much 3D, you may want to bump up to a higher gain material.

I've had a 102" cinema vision for 7+ years. Recently I upgraded my PJ to an RS 40 and moved the seating closer to the screen at about 11 feet. When I moved closer to the screen (had been about 15 feet away) I began noticing texture in the screen in bright areas of the image that is very distracting.

I requested a sample of BW from Carada to see if it would resolve the "texture" issue. It did -- I no longer could see the grainy texture. Although it's hard to tell with a sample size of about 1 sf, it appeared the BW was slightly less bright than the CV.

I'm still evaluating other options and the BW sample but I can tell you that at least for the design of the CV from circa 2004, the Carada BW solved the one problem I had with it. Obviously, it is possible that DaLite has improved the CV screen material since 2004.
