New home prewire - audio, video security and futureproofing...

I'm building a 3500sft house and need some help with the low voltage wiring.

In addition to a 5.1 system in my family room, I also want a pair of ceiling speakers in my kitchen, dining, living and office. I'll be doing a full theatre room in the basement when the time comes. I'm using a Harmon Kardon AVR 3600 which is 2 zone capable. So I can watch tv in the family room, and have music playing in the rest of the house.

I plan on using Monoprice in-ceiling speakers and this speaker selector where I keep my components.
http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

I'll then have rotary volume controls from Monoprice to control the volume in each room. I only really plan on using this when people are over and I want music throughout the house.

Any issues with this setup?

I'm also going to wire Cat5e from the component closet to the volume control box, as I believe this is all that Control4 and others need if I decide to move to the next step. Anything else I'm missing?

Next, I'd like a simple(cheap) video doorbell solution. A neighbour has an AiPhone JK series model that works well, I'd like something like this. Only thing is the screen is a little small, and no option to have it networked and be able to view it from the web. What's the next level up from AiPhone? Would be nice to have web viewing, but if it's too costly, what do I need to pre-wire my doorbell to add/change this down the road? Would Cat 5e be enough?

I do have two front entrances that I would like to view from the kitchen and master bedroom, online viewing is a nice to have. Can two AiPhone systems 'ring' two monitors?

Thanks!!

I have not used Aiphone video doorbell systems yet. I have used them for intercom & doorbells. They are ususally very reliable and durable.

As for video intercoms. Here is a site I often used. I have experience with their wireless doorbell systems.

Thanks for the input!
How is the quality of the units and the clarity of the video, both in daylight and night time.
Thanks!

The wireless solution has a fairly good display but only 3.5 inches. I have not tried the others, but by judging from the reviews, they seem ok. If you try, please post your comments. By the way they don't work 600 ft through walls. The best I have seen is about 120-150 feet.

Any other comments or suggestions? Am I doing this right?
Thanks!

Dont try powering all the remote rooms off the zone 2 of the HK. Use the line level output of zone 2 to a sep amp with an impedance matching speaker selector

I would try powering all the remote rooms off the zone 2 of the HK.

If it's not loud enough, THEN buy a dedicated amp.

Be sure to read the Wiring Your Home wiki pages over at Cocoontech. Lots and lots of suggestions there for pre-wiring stuff you probably haven't thought about...

Lots of good prewire discussions at cocoontech forums as well.

Central vac might be a good option. Carbon monoxide detectors, alarm system (sensors, keypads), flood/water sensors in key locations (often part of alarm system), wireless access point. Potential, future TV locations. In-floor radiant heating for master bathroom, depending on where you live. Extra ethernet cables (cat5e/cat6) to several locations including front door, TVs, and other places for LAN connectivity (washing machine? dishwasher?); I have a feeling that most appliances will be wifi, someday.

Most developments with Appliances are around the use of Bluetooth technology. However, it may turn to LAN connectivity.
