In using Cat5e cable vs regular 14 gauge speaker wire from home depot?

I have read that taking cat5 and twisting striped together for one connection, and twisting the solid for another..

I have read that there is greater dynamics offered by the cat cable..

what do the venerable avs'rs think?

No audible benefit whatsoever. However, there may be a measurable benefit, but you're not going to be able to hear it.

Gah! I'm wasting all this mullah on expensive high power amps, dozens of high sensitivity speakers and digital crossovers..... just needed to use some damn plain-jane network cable I can get anywhere.

jk

...but, umm... no.

You may very well be able to use the cable in this fashion, as speaker wire, however it will not provide any sonic benefits. It's all copper cable and electricity doesn't care/know if it's speaker wire or a network cable. I'd say if you want some DIY fun, have lots of cat5 on hand and need speaker cables... I'd say go for it.

Now they tell me I got 10 boxes of Cat 5e cable and I went yesterday and bought 50 ft of 10 gauge speaker wire for $75.00 ... Anyone know how many twisties to I have to do with Cat 5e to arrive to the equivelent of 10 gauge? First one that gives me an honest answer gets a hunnerd innernet bucks..
