how rip blu ray to BD folder WITH menus full audio and features?

I want to store my blu rays to my hard drive and play from within Windows Media Center. I want to keep the menus, special features and HD audio.

I just want to click on the movie icon in WMC go the blu ray's menu, and play the move (with HD audio) or go to the features - just like running a blu ray player.

But I cannot figure out what software will do all of those things. I can rip to an ISO file with AnyDVD HD Ripper, but as far as I can determine, TMT nor PowerDVD or any other player with a Media Center interface will play iso files directly - they all appear to require "mounting" the file in a virtual drive, which is a extra step that defeats the purpose of using the simplicity of the WMC interface.

I cannot seem to find any software that will create a "complete" BD folder either. Clown_BD does not seem to allow you to rip the entire blu ray - I can only get it to rip just the main movie.

DVDFabs HD Decrypter looked promising, but seems to create everything BUT a BD folder.

Am I missing something obvious? Surely there is someway to rip an entire blu ray with menus and extra features and full audio to a BD folder wlith AnyDVD HD or something similar, but I sure cannot figure out how to do that.

Help! Thanks --jayhawk

You need to understand (and accept) that WMC does not support BR out of the box...
You will need a program like TMT5 or PDVD if you really want to have all the special features like you've said...

If you want to circumvent (or automate) the ISO image mounting, you will need to have mediabrowser (or Mymovies) installed and configured to automount the ISO image when you select the movie.

But then, instead of going to the movies icon in media center, you will need to go to the mediabrowser icon (also in media center).
You select the movie you want (assumed already ripped to ISO) the iso will be automatically mounted and media center will prompt you if you want to play your BR with TMT (or PDVD, or WinDVD...)
Select the program you want and off you go...

There is plenty of information in the stickies on how to this set up using mediabrowser or mymovies.

I'm afraid anything short of the above will get you chasing your tail for quite some time...

Jeez....a simple search....!

AnyDVD => Choose Rip to Hard Drive

Problem solved.

TMT and PDVD 11 will play these folders.
Use Media Browser or My Movies as your front-end.
All of the above software integrates automatically in Media Center.

There are guides littered all over this forum on how to achieve the setup.

Good Luck!

you can use anydvd or dvdfab to save the folders exactly like they are on the disc.

i toss the dvdxml file in the same folder that holds the bdmv folder. it shows the icon in the WMC movie menu and launches TMT5 when I select PLAY

Thanks balky. It appears that Media Browser solves this problem, as it automatically mounts iso files. (I have the trial of TMT5 and have been experimenting with it and am willing to purchase it.)

hirent, I have searched extensively on this issue and have been experimenting with AnyDVD HD, Clown_BD, TMT 5, MPC-HD, VLC, DVDFab and other programs.

And I HAVE read the various guides for those programs. (I'm a great advocate of RTFM!) And have spent hours searching and reading many forums for here and on other sites.

Can you point me to the guide that shows how to use AnyDVD HD to rip a full blu ray to a BD folder (not an iso)? Because that has been my great frustration. Ripping to an iso is easy with several programs. But my question was how to rip the full movie with menus and features to a BD folder structure (that can be read with TMT or PowerDVD in Media Center). I sure have not been able to find that.

Right click the fox and select "Rip Video DVD to harddisk..." and you will get a full rip of your Blu-ray movie in folder format.

Full menus are supported only by commercial BD players such as TMT, PowerDVD. Each of TMT and PowerDVD has a UI specifically designed for WMC integration (uMCEPlayer5.exe, PowerDVDCinema11.exe [PowerDVD cinema mode]). But PowerDVDCinema11 works only with ISOs (PowerDVD classic mode supports BD folders).

I am not sure why you think mounting ISO "defeats the purpose of using the simplicity of the WMC interface". Mounting ISO will be done automatically in the background and you won't even notice it. Windows 8 supports ISO natively, so even mounting will be unnecessary. ISO will be the most future-proof format, in particular within WMC (IMO, of course ). For example, you are [in WMC7] (and perhaps will be in WMC8) able to see the following screen only with ISO:

(Within Media Browser, click to play the movie [ISO]; ISO will be mounted and the above screen will appear, where you can select any player you like to play the movie [MPC-HC and WMC supports only the main movie playback]).

You can't do (and won't be able to do) this with BD folders.

Sure, I can understand that.
It is so simple that sometimes it gets buried deep within the guides and is easy to overlook.
As I, & DJW pointed out: Choose the 'Rip to Hard Disk' option.
Its right there in AnyDVD, below (or above) 'Rip to ISO'.
It will rip your entire disc to the hard drive in folder format.
Did you try it?
DVDFab does it too. One click ripping of entire disc to folder format.

It should solve your problems.

Thanks folks, but on my copy of AnyDVD HD (downloaded about a week ago, v6.8.8.0) there are no such options in the right click menu or within the program. Ditto for the AnyDVD Ripper program.

I did read that AnyDVD HD had the ripper function included in the base program some time ago, but the version I installed a few days ago actually installed two programs with separate icons (fox icons) on the desktop: AnyDVD HD and another one called AnyDVD Image Ripper. (which does a great job of ripping images, but that is all it does)

Could Slysoft have changed it recently and deleted the "rip to disk" functions you have? I do have the trial version (would gladly pay Slysoft now, but the credit card companies have recently cut them off, and Slysoft is working to find ways to solve the payment problems). But the only limitation they state on the trial version is a need to re enter the initial settings for each reboot (and of course the 21 day trial limit).

What version of AnyDVD HD are you running? (I'll also go to the Slysoft forums and inquire there too.)

Thanks --jayhawk

Hi renethx, this may be a moot point, since I've been planning to use Media Browser anyway. but how do you get WMC to automatically mount ISOs in the background? I have a number of ISOs in my Movie library (thanks to the AnyDVD Image Ripper program I mentioned in the earlier post) and have been using TMT 5 within WMC. But neither TMT 5 nor WMC can find the ISO files unless I separately mount them with Virtual CloneDrive. (outside of WMC)

Is there some setting I have to do in WMC to tell it to automatically mount ISO files?

Thanks --jayhawk

Don't bring up the settings window for AnyDVD if that is what you are doing because you won't see the choice to rip to the hard drive, but if you right click on the AnyDVD icon in the system tray you should see in the menu a choice to rip the disk to the hard drive. The trial version gives you full access to all of AnyDVDs functions for the trial period, so you can fully try before you buy the software to see if it meets your needs.

If you want to mount an image (ISO) of a disk, you should use virtual clone drive from slysoft which is a free to use. Once you install it on your rig, you'll never know it's there because it works in the background to mount the image so the player TMT5 or PDVD can play the movie. There are other image mounting apps, but this one appears to be the most trouble free and is patched when required.I have a few ISO that I mount using Virtual Clone Drive, but I use it in conjunction with My Movies which calls VCD to mount the image then notifies TMT5 for example that the ISO has been mounted and is ready to be played back by the playback software.

Never seen anything like that before, I'm using v6.8.8.0. Do you have the Fox Icon in your task bar? Try right clicking on that.

YES! It is only on the (tiny, well-hidden in Windows 7) fox icon in the task bar pop up list.

I had tried the desktop icons, the icons in the Start Programs menus, even navigated to the executable program in the program folder in C:\\Program Files (X86)! None of them did it, but a couple of hours reading the Slysoft forums brought up a mention of the "taskbar icon". (beating your mention here by about 2 minutes...)

I've also just figured out how to get the fox icon out of the popup and onto the base taskbar. (a setting in Taskbar Properties).

THANKS - trying it out now on Lord of the Rings.

Edit: Ripped LOTR perfectly, just the way I wanted it. Menus, special features, etc and plays perfectly in WMC with TMT5!

Hmm, it looks like you haven't used a proper plug-in, called Mount Image. That's why you think "an extra step" (= mount ISO manually ) defeats the purpose of using the simplicity of the WMC interface.

I assume you have already installed Virtual CloneDrive. Then install Mount Image. That's it. ISOs will show up in "movie library" (if a folder containing ISOs are added to it) and if you play one of them, the ISO will be mounted automatically in the background and you will see the same screen as my previous post or if TMT5 is the only player registered in Media Center's AutoPlay (more in this post; don't confuse it with Windows' AutoPlay), then playback by TMT5 (precisely, uMCEPlayer5.exe) will begin immediately.

Media Browser and My Movies also use Media Center's AutoPlay. An advantage of this feature is selection of a player on the fly depending on the situation. If you want to play the main title quickly (without being bothered with FBI warning etc.), use WMC internal player or MPC HomeCinema or Zoom Player (the latter two even support madVR video renderer); if you want to play extra features, use TMT or PowerDVD. With BD folder, you are limited to one player permanently (well, until you reconfigure MB/MM). Movie Library can't recognize BD folder structure. Windows 8 supports ISO natively etc.

Thanks renethx. Now that I've got WMC and my rips working, I'll start experimenting with Mount Image and Media Browser. I appreciate your help!
