What I DID find out through my experimenting, is that if I changed the HDMI source mode to...crap I can't remember...something other than default Auto (Graphics maybe?)...the blob was less noticeable. Additionally, if I changed the mode from Custom to something like Cinema (maybe even Game, I don't remember) and did my modifications from there, the blob went away.

Yeah, I am using Graphics for the HDMI setting and that must help. I use Cinema and Custom exclusively and either my blobs have diminished or my settings hide them. The green one never showed up when watching tv, and the pink one is either fading or my settings hide it pretty well. I have not seen it in a long while I changed my ps3 background color so I wouldn't have the reminder .

I have not tried different inputs, I will give that a shot. I hope that is not the issue because I wanted to be able to use the ARC from the TV I am connecting to Netfilx.

I also will try resetting the TV.

The line always is in the same spot on the TV.

I can understand wanting to utilize ARC from the TV for Netflix, but is there any advantage picture or sound wise in using Netflix through the TV rather than TiVo?

The tivo netflix app is inferior to the viera version imo. Only shows instant queue.

And the PS3 version is far better than the Viera version.

I've only used the TiVo version. Does anyone know how the Xbox 360 version compares? I would still be able to run that through my Denon and the ARC would be a non issue.

I would imagine the same as the PS3, although I have a 360 as well, I have only used the PS3 for Netflix because it doesn't require an anual cost to do so.

Only other one I've had experience with is the netflix app on my sony soundbar receiver, pretty good layout but the movie icons are too small imo

I just picked up an open box ST30 (60"). When it arrives, I won't have any idea about whether it's been sufficiently broken in. Do you think it would be okay to go ahead and run the slides and apply the settings, or should I wait a few weeks and do some normal TV viewing in cinema mode (just avoiding ESPN and other channels that have logos as much as possible)? I have a Vizio 50" plasma with a permanently burnt in ESPNHD logo in the bottom right corner. I was hoping to avoid that this time. Most of the threads I have read really don't suggest doing anything very radical to break the TV in, other than avoiding news tickers and the like.

I just sold my 60" Sharp LCD that I bought in December in favor of this plasma. I found myself gravitating to the bedroom to watch tv on my old plasma. Movement on the LCD seemed unnatural, kind of jerky, especially fast-action sports like the NCAA tournament. The motion jutter on the Sharp LCD (which could be reduced but not eliminated by adjusting the advanced settings) nearly gave me a seizure during March Madness on CBS (via DirecTV). That was the final nail in the coffin.

On med/high panel custom mode with HDMI content set to Graphics, on my ST30, I'm noticing some false contouring in some skin tones and light colored things. I do not notice this in Cinema mode. Is this just a fact of life for the mid/high custom settings? Is there a way to improve it? Is there something wrong with my set? I've noticed it on multiple sources, and like I said, Cinema mode seems to completely eliminate it, but the light output in Cinema mode just leaves something to be desired.

No false contouring here with those settings. Could be your TV's finger print, they're all different. When you stay in custom but change those settings, does it go away?

You will enjoy your ST30, coming from a Sharp LCD If it is an open box item, does that mean it was a display unit? I would check the hours by going into the service menu. The first 100 hours is where most of the advantage of running the slides exists. After that, we are all just watching the tv. These tv's are sort of prone to IR, and I don't think that really diminishes until the tv has 1,000 hours on it. So keep an eye out for IR.

I have no idea about the TV's history. HDTVGUYZ is where I bought it. I will report back about the quality of the set. Most of their reviews are good, but at least one poster has accused them of spamming. Who knows?! It was several hundred cheaper than buying new, so I decided to take a chance on it. Can anybody link instructions for checking the hours?

I got it in June of 2011. It has about 1500 hours on it.

Do you just let this run all day and night or only for a few hours at a time?

You can do it either way.

Hi all.

I've got a 65" ST30. Used D-Nice's slides and all has been perfect for the past 2 weeks. Watching OTA through TIVO and my screen goes into a white frenzy strobe. Nothing on the remote works, except the power button. I thought this was weird...

Happened again on different channel about 1 hour later. Any thoughts as to why or what's wrong?

I'm still within my 30 day Amazon return window... thoughts???

happened again while watching ps3 blu ray. this time, no frenzy but the picture shifted and looked as though I was watching ghost protocol on a staticy crt tube 30 years ago...

thoughts???

Be sure to use custom mode, turn off the eco settings, maybe set AGC to zero.

Sounds like it could be a bad HDMI connection to me. Check the cable connection and/or try another cable.
I would say HDMI connection as well. However, if you get the problem on two different inputs, ehh, not sure. You would still have to check both HDMI connections. Wouldn't be the first time that both would be bad. Certainly sounds like HDMI.

happens on multiple hdmi inputs. contacted amazon... set is going back. if it wasn't for this, the tv is just terrific.

Bummer, try another one if you can.

Just got an open box 65vt30 ,it has 47 hrs of use. Would i still benefit from the break in procedure? And if so, do i run it for only another 50 hrs til the tv hits 100hrs or just run the break in for the full 100hrs?

Depends on whether you want to use DNICE's settings ? Are you going to get it calibrated ? If not I don't think there is a whole lot of value to running the break in slides. Your picture will improve sometime after the 100 hour mark, for my set it was after 150 hours.

If the set came with a Return Period, would run the heck out of it until that period expires: simply on the odd chance that you might find some Early Onset Glitch....

(Like to use a combination of slides, full-screen animation, and other full-screen material: no letterbox bars, and using Zoom to move any logos off-screen.)

Also, would agree with chunon's observation that your ST30 is likely to provide an IMPROVED PQ as the panel ages - at least for the first couple hundred hours.
Thanks for the response guys. I will be using Dnice settings, and probably wont get a pro-calibration any time soon. The plasma is from BB, so it has the 30 day warranty, plus i went with their 4 yr geek squad warranty just incase.

EDIT: just read this entire thread, i came across D-nice saying that you have to do the slides only if you have watched 'NO" tv to get his results with his settings. Well, i guess there is no point of running the slides then, since the settings will be off.

So is there any other known settings i can put on the plasma to have it look good without having it pro calibrated for now? somebody had posted something about Cnet's settings looking really good, but i cant find any link for it.
