PS3 & RS10 Not Playing Nice Together

Has anyone else experienced issues with their PS3 not working with their RS10 (or any projector for that matter)? I am using a powered splitter between the projector and my plasma, but even when I plug the PS3 directly in to the projector I still get no signal. Is this an HDCP handshake problem? All of my other devices (NeoTV 550, HTPC, Xbox360, DirecTV HD) work fine with the splitter so I am a little perplexed as to why the PS3 is giving me such fits. The PS3 works fine with the plasma through the splitter so I am sort of lost here. Thoughts?

I have a few theories.

Did you try to turn off deep color from automatic, on your PS3 output or tried 1080i mode? I had a problem with a 100 foot HDMI cable I had whenever I had a device activated with deep color and 1080p (for god knows what reason), and setting it to off allowed me to send a 1080p 60Hz signal on my cable. Your cable to your projector may be the problem, but it might be solvable.

Also try out using 1080i mode and activating 1080p24Hz on your PS3. You don't necessarily need 1080p checked to use 1080p 24Hz. I got this to work properly with my 100 foot cable before (when I didn't realize the deep color issue).

Thanks Trogdor2010 for the information. What is interesting is that when I hold the power button on the PS3 to do a complete HDMI reset, I still don't get a signal. Nothing. I will try and turn off the deep color and 1080p option while it is displaying on my plasma and then switch over to the projector and see if that works. The HDMI run is only 30ft. and I have not had any 1080p or Deep Color issues with any other device though.

I used to have major handshake issues between my ps3 and rs10. Had to unplug the hdmi cables and plug back in at the ps3 and eventually would get a connection. I went hdmi from ps3 to the AVR and from AVR to a wall jack. Inwall hdmi to another wall jack and wall jack to the rs10. I remodeled and ended up moving the pj and needed a longer cable to get to the wall jack. When I went to the different, longer cable, ALL the handshake issues went away. All cables are from Monoprice but for some reason the different cable did the trick. Good luck!

SOunds crazy but try using HDMI 2 if you haven't already. I seem to remember that some found it more stable than HDMI 1. I use this myself, but only because my cable is a fraction too short to reach the front socket.

Thanks guys for the input. I was really hoping to avoid the new cable scenario as I just got it installed. The fact is everything else works fine with it so it is really hard for me to believe it is the cable. As for trying input 2, well, I never thought of that. I'll give that a shot tonight. Thanks!

Never had any issues with one of the first PS3's and a RS-1. I also have the same 3m cable still installed. What resolution are you sending to the JVC?

Actually it is closer to a 9m cable, but I have tried 480p and 1080p and neither deliver a signal. I have also taken the HDMI splitter out of the equation and still nothing.

Do you by chance have another HDMI cable that you could use to plug directly to the projector? Would just want to eliminate the cable as the culprit.

Unfortunately, not that long. I guess I could just move the PS3 over to the projector for testing purposes. If the input 2 trick doesn't work, then I will try a different cable (albeit shorter one). Thanks kkpro.

Well, I got my answer. Not the answer I wanted. At all. It appears to be my cable. I ran the PS3 directly into the projector with a 3ft cable and it worked like a charm. What I still don't understand is why everything else works fine. That makes no sense to me. Any suggestions for a not ridiculously overpriced 30ft+ cable to replace the one that magically doesn't work for just the PS3?

Would this probably work better: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

I've had the one from Monoprice for several years, no issues. Glad you found your problem, hope it isn't a huge issue to replace the cable. Drop ceilings are wonderful!

Mine runs through my basement, but the trick is getting it run back up the wall to the box. Can't wait!

Thanks for the help everyone.

I am running a 45' Blue Jeans Cable Series 1 to my rs10 with absolutely no problems. Very similar setup with a splitter to my plasma as well. Never had an issue with my ps3.Good Luck.

Got the 22AWG HDMI cable from Monoprice and first let me say "HOLY $#@! That is one thick HDMI cable!" Did a test connection between my splitter and projector and voila, the PS3 plays perfectly on the RS10 now. Still can't believe everything else played fine on the other cable, but clearly that was the problem. Thank you to everyone in determining the problem. Now I just have to get this anaconda of an HDMI cable installed.
