Looking to buy a family member an entry level receiver under 300 from amazon that is reliable and has decent features that will run energy 5.1 speakers or Polk 5.1 speakers. Denon onkyo pioneer yamaha etc. What's a good quality receiver, nothing cheap, that would be a good gift for a family member that will last several years and run a decent pair of speakers

Does it have to be from Amazon?
Denon 790 1910 used - Pioneer 1020
are a good place to start looking.
You can stretch the dollars buying from accessories4less.com. They sell refurbished Onkyo Denon and Marantz. You can save 25% or more buying last years refurbished models. There are few features worth having on the new models over last year's since they all do 3D and HD-Audio.

Yamaha has good reliability and you can find some good deals on last years models. Here is a good choice although slightly over the budget.

Amazon also has some Denon 1712's for a good price if you don't mind open box. They still have the same warranty. I bought an open box Denon 3311 from them and you could hardly tell that it was not brand new.
