If this is accurate, I wonder if there is a way to push the entire 1280x1470 resolution to one eye. I know, sounds funny, but for people with vision in one eye, a monocular device at closer to full HD might be appealing. Also, other than price, why is no one talkng about this device http://www.vrealities.com/vrprost.html. AT $8,500 I won't be buying it ever but I am curious to hear how it performs.

This was all still experimental, in the end the Wii strap that also worked well was replaced with the Comfort pad set and that extra band at the back did wonders for the balance , I put some padding on there and trimmed it down a bit .

Hi Casey, is the Wii strap adjustable (could you tighten it?)

Thanks

I don't think you understood correctly, basically that 1280x1740 frame contains 2x 720p images, plus a 30 pixel buffer in the middle (check the screen shot).

Outputting that to both eyes (or one eye) would give you a strange portrait image.

I've read of people sending a 1280x1780 signal from their PC and it working, so I think it's my cable not supporting HDMI 1.4 (3D). But if I make any progress, I'll post it right here...

I love that comfort mod!

Ahhhh. Got it! Thanks.

I recently won this in a contest, and I've tried using it, but not video is coming through. I've hooked it up to my PS3, do I need to also hook the box that comes with it into a TV? Because I don't have access to a TV with a HDMI port.

Getting a little frustrated with it. Can hear all the sound though from the games/movies.

First time poster here. Got my mine a cople of days ago.

Is it normal that my nose hurts quite a lot after using these for more than half an hour. I am kind of feeling that the whole weight of the viewer is resting on my nose. If I try to put them in a position where there is not contact between I loose focus.

Also is it normal that I get good focus in the middle of the viwer but bad in the edges.

I am open to suggestions
Yes it is - unless you are laying back with the HMD it will be quite uncomfortable... you have 95 pages to go through which will discuss the various comfort mods that individuals are doing to help with the comfort and focus issues... good luck and have fun customizing it!

Yes it's normal because eyes are spherical shape, so you can't have focus on all screen.

If you have only the whole height on nose it's because :
-1- You probably don't use light-blockers. (it's really useful cool.gif)
-2- Like is written in Aid Flyer :
Quote:
Make sure that the upper strap is not on the top of your head. This will cause the unit to tilt forward and put pressure on your nose.
-3- Try another settings combination of straps and foreheads.

Enjoy biggrin.gif

Thank you for the advice guys. One more thing. Even when I am wearing glasses, I can't seem to be able to focus both my eyes. That is to say, I adjust the sliders so the "Welcome" sreen is nearly perfect, however, and everything is blurry on my right eye if I cover my left. If I do it the other way around, everthing is ok.

I read somewhere in the thread(or a link in here) that it you can remove something from the HMZ to make it possible to focus each eye independantly. Do you think it will help?
You can remove part of the rack and pinion mechanism to independently adjust each optical assembly's lateral position, however I am confident there is no simple modification which allows for any type of focusing, eye independent or otherwise.

When using the HMZT1s, one should be wearing their glasses for distance vision, like when driving or being at a movie theater.

Had a good chance to play with mine yesterday, as stated earlier in this thread it's direct from Sony UK and has a serial number beginning with 1. I have a very large head and wear varifocal glasses with high minus toric lenses (astigmatism) so I was a little worried about buying without trying but took the risk. Firstly I had no real difficulty getting both screens in focus, it took a little fiddling about but no problems there. The picture (mostly blu-ray from a htpc) was sharp with great contrast and great 3d. I found the sound ok, I'm not a big fan of faux surround so will probably leave them on plain stereo.
I think I will be doing a little modding to improve comfort, after a 40 min stretch it wasn't too bad but I think a few padded straps will make a big difference. The main "flaw" for me is the pixellation, I've used inverted commas because it's ok and I'd quite happily watch a film on it, but I'm used to a 1080p projector and tv now and I notice the difference. Having said that when watching my TV and projector now I will probably miss the great contrast this thing has.
If Sony produce a HMZ-T2 with 1080p panels I'll be first in the queue, even if everything else was the same.
Resolution is a downer agree on that cool.gif well its more of a toy than a serious av product so it really dont matter
post #2865 of 3315
The key is the rear bottom strap. The instructions sony gives is to put this on first (low on the back of your head, almost to your neck), then lower the HMZ into place so it's resting mainly on your forehead. There should be very little weight on your nose.

Following sony's instruction card (which I get the feeling many people actually bother to read lol) I can wear it comfortably with no mods for about an hour. I will eventually add some more straps and padding, quite possibly the Blaze straps from this forum.

Semi-off-topic but... I've fallen in love with wipeout HD. This was MADE for the HMZ... if you're not using it for 3D you're wasting it... I was not a racing game fan at all, in fact 2D racing in general never really held my attention, but I know why now, it's because they lacked depth, which is where your sense of speed comes from... being able to see how far away things are means you can really setup for corners in advance, but the sense of speed alone is the, litteral, game changer...

The strap issues and 720p disappears, you get near total immersion when you are playing a 3D game... I AM LIVING THE DREAM.

Actually, I forget to take breaks and my girlfriend laughs at the telltale red mark on my forehead.

Can't wait for 1080p and PS4, I am sold... This is as close as you can get to virtual reality with consumer tech today.

Alright, enough gushing... I've just unlocked the vertigo grid, gotta get back to work...

Hi everyone, what is your suggestion for blocking out light and creating a totally immersive environment with the hmz. I tried throwing a blanket on my head to block out the light, but that didn't really work due to the moisture from my breath getting on the hmz lenses and the slight suffocation smile.gif

Also, thanks blazin3d for creating a new light-blocking mod, any updates on the price and availability of it? I'm really looking foward to it!
Actually we have 2 prototypes done that seem to work quite well. I'll get some pictures soon and post them and perhaps we will take some pre-orders.

Removed the gear for the lenses and I've put some padding. After two hours of TRON my eyes dont feel as tired as before.

Very curious how everyone is removing the gear? Really need a step by step video for that. The video on youtube just taking it apart don't help any.

Also guys, very great news. I just spent 2 hours testing our new light blocker and it 100% blocks ALL light and feels great. How it works is it's a dark black soft fabric that wraps around the unit as you wear it with elastic bands to keep it on. It totally covers the HMZ and not to brag, but after trying it out watching IMAX Space Station and Under the Sea I truly felt like I was sitting in the movie theater. Pitch black with nothing to bother me. Kudos to my wife on her amazing sewing and idea for this:eek:

I'm off to work for now, so when I get home tonight photos will be posted and more information.

great work bravia3d hope u put up some photo for it.

Thanks

I wonder if the marshmallows get sticky over time though? Just kiddin.tongue.gif Bravo to comfort mods!

Just because it can be done doesn't mean it should be done. For people with normal eyes it should make no difference, however for people with one eye that's cross-eyed or wall-eyed, (sorry if those aren't PC terms but I'm ignorant in such matters) then it might be of value.
Many of you should be working at Sony on this: seems most of you know more about design and comfort than they do.

I haven't tried this type of display YET but it looks promising. I've seen subscribed to this thread from the start to learn as much as I can about these displays and the great discussion.

Just got my HMZ-T1 and am enjoying it muchly despite the discomfort. Am also anxiously awaiting bravia3D's comfort mods which I ordered a few days ago. 3D blu-rays are great (which is what I got it for) BUT one "small" issue ... when the image fades to black (or there is no signal at all) the right OLED is slightly brighter than the left when the brightness is 50 or below. If I increase the brightness to 53 or 54 (max 100) I can no longer notice it since both OLEDs are slightly grayish (though I think the difference is still there). It doesn't really bother me to the point where I want to return the unit but does anyone else have this issue??? Thanks in advance for any feedback smile.gif !

confused.gif Never notice a difference in blackness for either L or R display.confused.gif For BD 3D and BD movies, I "Reset", using only "Vivid" default settings, but then change "Color Temperature" to "Warm 2".

Is there a difference in screen blackness levels when you disconnect or change the player source.?

No, the slight difference in black level (noticeable by my 73 year old eyes only at brightness set at 50 or below) persists even when I completely disconnect any signal source and simply turn the unit on. Thanks for your suggestion to use the Vivid with Warming 2 for BD's ... I like it tongue.gif and as long as I set the brightness to 53 or higher I really can't notice the black level discrepancy between the OLED's ... I'm pretty sure it's still there but just too small relative to the set level for me to detect. I'm grateful that I can see as well as I can at my age biggrin.gif

Alright guys, sorry it took some time to get some pictures up. But the light blocker is all done and here are photos!

It wraps around your entire head, we tried versions that just wrap around the front with a strap in the back. But those let light in from the sides and rear. This version blocks 100% of all light making a totally dark theater like experience when using the HMZ. It doesn't hurt your head or face, the fabric is very comfortable easy to take on and off.
It uses elastic bands to stay on, so it stretches over the HMZ and your head very easy. I have tested it watching numerous 3D movies and it doesn't make me feel hot or sweat and that's something I thought of for those that get hot easy (like me, I sweat even in winter)

Later tonight (it's evening here in Japan, morning for most you) it will be up for pre-orders on my site, www.blazin3d.com Only pre-orders at this time and soon we will decide when they ship. Once again, first come first serve but unlike with the cushion pads these should ship out much faster since my wife is quitting her job.
Those still waiting for cushion pads please hang in there, we are trying to get caught up and dealing with orders from April 24th at this time. We really didn't expect so many orders and demand for them so we were so unorganized. We couldn't even contact everyone when we shipped their orders because there was just literally to many!
So we are trying to get organized and this time around we will contact all those who order when we ship their item.

More photos will come soon, and please.. Don't call me condom head:) The top part can actually be pulled down more so you don't look like a goof, but I kinda like it pulled up over my head, feels better for me, and heck.. I don't care if I look funny in the comfort of my home! Though my wife says with it on I look like a Super Mario mushroom, all I need is the eyes on top tongue.gif

The Blazin 3D light blocker for the HMZ is now out and we are taking pre-orders! We call it, Pitch Black as that's pretty much what it does, blocks all light making it pitch dark for a totally imerssive experience. It goes great with our cushion pads, the Comfort 3 though the fabric used is quite more expensive. We wanted a fabric that is soft, won't hurt your skin or cause those with bad allergies to have problems and looks good.
As mentioned it slides over the HMZ and your head easily with elastic bands but won't cause you to feel hot or sweat, and is actually quite comfortable to wear. Since it govers over the headphones it actually pushes the headphones into your ears more (not causing pressure or pain) so the sounds better as a bonus.
Pre-orders are being taken at, www.blazin3D.com and shipments start August 1st. Please read the product page on the site before ordering.
First come first serve basis as always, however shipping on these should be quite fast and most will be shipped in August. (In short, there won't be anymore 1-2 month waiting for these!)
While your at the site, be sure to check out some of my new movies like the Fukuoka Custom Car Show 2012, worked hard on it and it's pretty good. If your into cool cars it would be a great movie for you.

My cushion pad on top wasn't tight, that's why it sticks up a bit.

Makes the picture look amazing and more theater like. I been using my light blocker non stop and loving it. I just lay back on my couch and watch 3D movies and feel like I'm in my own private IMAX.
