Sony HMZ-T1 HMD Owner's dedicated thread - Page 29

Put in some time with Black Ops in 3D mode. It was pretty cool. More immersive than most of the 3D movies I've been fooling with on cable. It has been so long since I played the game though that I was doing awful.

I'll need to check and see if I have any other 3D games to try out.

I used for testing this evening the thinnest forehead and the pressure on my nose was ok but after something over a hour a felt a big pressure on my forehead. Watching me in a mirror i see a big red bar from the thin forehead pad. So this setting is as well not good for me.

I check tomorrow evening with the large forehead pad.

Green Lantern is absolutly perfect to test the HMZ. The initial sequence in space has a really big deep and vibrant colors. Black level also perfect.

Other good movie is IMAX into the deep 3D or how to train your dragon. If the original BluRay 3D is good with 3D effects then the SbS version should be as well very good.

Nice write up mate.. Those demos are pretty good.. Great to test the 3D.. And if people say these don't make you feel the pop.. then play the fr-072 Aeon5 it's great and only 4mb.. haha

I've had mine a good while now and I have the comfort pretty nailed down. A good way to set it up is loosen everything out then while holding it in the perfect position push the sides in so the back straps are tight. then still holding it in the perfect place you can feel with your finger how much space is between your head and the upper strap to lower that a little. Kinda worked for me and anyone i've let have a go..

If you play on a PS3 then you can test with the demo of Resistance 3 3D. I had to sit down after some playing as I had motion sickness. Sitting on a chair fixed this problem as my brain aknowledged that I was not anymore running in the game.

If you guys sit up and feel front heavy, can you try to put a counterweight around 300g - 400g at the back of your head and see if it is more comfortable? I'm thinking to put a thick rubber band attached to the forehead pad and pull all the way to the back strap and tie to a counterweight so that you can distribute the weight evenly to your top of your head.

Hey guys, new to the forum here. I Love this thread, it keeps me very optimistic about my Nov 3rd purchase!.... even though January 17th is my estimated shipping date. Here's to hoping im amongst the few who randomly receive their order!
I just dont buy the rumors or whatever you wanna call it that sony would already just up and stop making these for a new revision ... ugh.. a new model already??? that's kinda fast for something that just dropped.. and people are obviously wanting them

anyone else see any logic or reason behind it maybe i'm missing something...

this isn't sony's first time into the HMD waters.. why would they go back and try again if they felt the time wasn't right to strike again??

I find it hard to believe also but that is what the Sony Store guy told me. I don't know what his motivation would have been. He even mentioned that he was going to get one of these but is now going to wait until the new model comes out as he would be using it mostly for games.

It does like seem quite a long time to wait for an item I pre-ordered nearly a month ago. I should have saved myself the trouble and just ordered it when you did.

I'm sick of the run around the CS rep's have been giving me too. Each time the shipment date arrives its another call to them just to hear some BS/receive a small refund. Your order will be shipped on the 4th....sorry it'll be shipped on the 11th.....the 18th....the 21st...the 23rd for sure, it's probably already shipped and we just haven't received the tracking number.....JANUARY 17th 2012 it'll be shipped, its a popular item....

I feel bad for the rep cause clearly they have no idea either, but they sure are hearing my frustration.

I do most of my gaming on Xbox but have a PS3, any other demos with 3D worth checking out? I am beyond out of the loop on all matters PS3.

Its just annoying to see my original estimated shipment date change so much and NOW to see that its gone from being within the same month to next year?!

What really grinds my gears is how I've seen multiple people on other threads in the USA whom have received their units on those dates. Even people who ordered after me. These might be BS, but from my perspective its beginning to feel like they are not in fact fulfilling orders in the order that they are placed.

This can be achieved with Arse-String technology (TM) . Seriously though after I mede myself a better fitting back head band (replacing the rubber oen included, that broke for me anyway) it's much more comfortable. As Jon already wrote, really try to get that back head band (or a replcament which in my case is a simple string tied in way that I can dynamically shoren and lngtne it on the fly) DEEP down your back head. There's some bone/skull shape protruding at the backhead (usually) that it can get an excellent grip on.

It isn't impossible after all. When Sony presented HMZ-T1 prototype earlier this year, they announced these would not be for sale. After changing minds, they decided to do so after all but in limited version just to see if this product attracts enough people and yes it did.

Even Sony was amazed by the attraction people had towards HMZ-T1. So basically this product is a test product while Sony probably, after seeing the attraction, decides to start to produce these in larger scale. An maybe they are aware of the uncomfortable experience people might have (weight) they could improve it till next gen.

If that is so, this would not surprise me at all.

Sony Enginners should at least offer a upgrade headmounting Kit to change the "original" one with a working one.

All the ones with the HMZ, test the 3D movie Green Lantern. I'm only curious if the initial scene of this movie is as breathtaking to you as it was for me.

I hope the future 3D movies would look all this way.

Thanks for the hint I guess that is something you are autodidactically finding out after a while. The key is determining the best position for the forehead pad, which for me is the lower latch using the smallest pad, but even then, it is kind of uncomfortable. I am 1,92m tall, so I guess my anatomy may cause additional troubles. Even the interocular distance could be more adjustable, perhaps one reason why I always have the feeling of looking through spyglasses (perhaps I am the only one ). Without using any forehead pad, the pressure on the nose is at a minimum, but then this damn flip switch is deactivating the unit. So I probably have to fasten the switch, but I do not like using a rubber band or similar.

Yesterday, I tried a few other demos and the best way of enjoying them is lying horizontally. But the main purpose of purchasing this device actually was playing DX3 with it, perhaps using T-IR5, but I doubt that lying horizontally at my couch is the most appropriate way

So I am looking forward to seeing more solutions

Then you should try "CDAK Orange" (ftp://ftp.untergrund.net/users/ized/prods/cdak.zip), it is a 4,000 byte demo and kind of impressive, even though not 3D-compatible.

Just got mine today and felt like a little kid opening his Christmas present.

Set it up, threw it on and popped in Resident Evil Afterlife, watched a few minutes of it and was like hmmm... 3D was not as good as my Sony Bravia 3D TV. Had the PS3 screen size set on 110, then changed it to 10" with no real difference. The unit said 3D signal detected and all, but I cut the 3D off and it looked about the same.

So popped in Avatar and that looked pretty good.. But still, thought my TV does better 3D. I am not seeing as much depth as others mention, yea its there but not like my TV does.

So I wanted to check popout and see how good it does, popped in my Marine World 3D movie I made and walla, pop was there. I often reached out feeling the object was in front of me. Looked pretty dang good So that made me happy.

Then played Ridge Racer in 2D which was bad ass on this thing.

I gotta lot of playing around with this device before I really review it. But one damn thing is 100% forsure, it hurts like a mofo after wearing it awhile. So uncomforable my nose was red Sony should have done a better job on this. I will be making new cushions and straps and something to keep the weight off my nose. Also after viewing my eyes feel weird, probably because the screens are so close. My left side seems blurred a bit near the edge but this may be due to me not setting it up good yet.

Another issue I noticed super fast was dust.. Those lenses get dirty way to easy and looks like dust gets inside with no problems. After 10 minutes of use I already have a damn white spec inside that won't come out, stuck on the right lense and very damn annoying. Gotta find a way to clean them good outside and inside as well...

The best focus I had was with the middle pad that was initially delivered out by Sony. I had the HMZ directly on my nose but full clear focus on the entire OLED with all edges. But with this setting after 1 hour you have a bloody red hurting nose.

I hope your home made cushions / strap combo will fix the bad work Sony did here and you are willing to sell / send them to me
post #864 of 3315
Yeah, this Sunday while we are off work my wife and I are gonna work on them and see if we can make them. My main concern is to make this dang thing more comfortable for long use without pain on the head or nose. If we can accomplish this (I'm sure we can) I'll sell them on my site.

I also found the headphones not that bad.. I set them on standard with +4 bass and +1 treble and they sounded good. But they are kinda not close enough to the ears. If I pushed them into my ears they sounded much better. Sony should have made these so they go around the ears and no sound leaks out with the volume high. If I watch a movie I want them blasting and this bothers my wife, barely turned up I can hear them across the room.

Count me in on your mount with what ever you come up with,
What ever it is, I am sure it will improve comfort. I seen another post coming from Japan.
I hope your looks better then this mod.

Lol
They even padded the outside. In case they walk into walls?
I highly doubt that any strap or cushion modification will help with the nose and forehead pain because the HMD just plain and simply put "weighs too damn much".

Hope the next gen will be lighter and better because this one is basically useless.

Hehe, yes seems silly on first glance. They migt zhave done to block light out though (I use some tin foil and dark plastic bag for that).

Nah, it's not that heavy. The weight is just on the wrong spots unless the back head band is adjusted right (which is overly comlicated ineded). A human can caryy much heavier loads on the head without too much strain - just not on the nose or all focused on the forhead alone.
A human can carry heavy objects on top of the head not on the forehead. Even if you're looking up you wouldn't bare weight on your forehead especially when your head is straight and this thing just dragging down.
