How to reset lamp timer on a sony kdf-e50a10

Just replaced my lamp after 5 years, but the power light just blinks red 3 times when I turn it on. Everything I read says I should reset the lamp timer but I don't know how to do it. Googling it just brought up a bunch of pages where the solution had been removed.

Three flashes on an E50A10 means that the lamp door has not been put back on or not put back on correctly. A part of the door presses on a tiny switch inside of the tv to tell the tv that the door is on. Sony doesn't want you running it without the door for reasons to do with safety.
