hi Tom,

I have HT with infinity P-FR with 12in build in sub room 2000 square ft which there is an open 2ft wide to hall way. I don't know if xs30 or xv30 is good for my setup since I watch movie only. Can you give me some suggestion?
thanks.

no subs with my avr set @ 0, the main speakers will hit anywhere from 105-110db depending on the type of music. turn subs on db jumps to 110-115db. I added no gain to the main speakers all set by ypao..the subs were set -3 by ypao and i have them set +1-2 range, so 4-5db hot.

Thanks BH81 for the heads up with the wireless, SS rig setup, muchly appreciated. That opens up all kind of options for me, I bought those furniture sliders for under my XS30s, like moving them on ice, $10. I will go with dual Rocketfish devices, thanks again.smile.gif
Cheers Jeff

One question, I'm not a real fan of Audyssey or RC for that matter, how will this affect the performance of the wireless devices, I think I just answered my own question, not at all.........tongue.gif

It will set the correct distance for the subwoofer, when you add the wireless device, the distance will probable be farther away then the sub actually is, this is normal.

How are you liking that xv30 Josh?

Its good, didnt test much yesterday, as i was SICK, still dont know how i got it in my room by myself, it sounds different from the XS-30 so far, i might need to move it a little, but i have not much room.

Nice! any reason why you are going with the omni mic vs the umm-6 with rew?

I'm most likely going with an Omni mic over REW too. Mostly because I don't have the patients or time to deal with a lot of stuff I've read about REW.
I know that the Omni mic setup cost more but I'm perfectly okay with that.

rew is really easy to use imo...what suprises me is the fact you have not measured them xs30's yet.slacker! tongue.gif

I haven't had time, lately I barely get time to even watch movies. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday's my son has baseball and I also coach his team. Wednesday's he has swimming and Friday's he plays soccer. In between that I have to fit my baseball schedule in there plus going to the gym and now it's the start of dirt bike season for me!...lol

Lets just say sometimes things get a little hectic, should be interesting once my 2 year old daughter starts things like gymnastics and dance!....lol

If two is good, then four is better (just think another +6 dB). Just kidding, I bet two will be unbelievably powerful and sound great. I can image the machine on the multichannel SACD of Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here, the pulsations would probably crack drywall at levels not even remotely stressing the two XV-30s.

Ok nice....I was not trying to imply that it was not a good option. Tom @ PSA actually recomended that setup, but i went the other route to save some coin.

thanks.

In 2000 cu-ft nearly sealed....you may be fine with a single XV15. The XS30 and XV30 would both work very well in this room size as well. Much depends on the desired listening levels and if you have a big preference toward the subwoofer size.

Generally, if the size isn't a stumbling block...I'd lean toward the XV30 over the XS30. The XS30 will extend deeper in most scenarios, but the difference in extension capabilities will only rarely become an audible factor. This is because the XV30 will extend into the mid teens in all but the largest of rooms and strong bass recorded <15hz is very rare.

The XV30, being twice the size and ported, has much more output capability in the deeper bass(say 15-35hz). In 2000 cu-ft, I'm not sure you would easily find the output limits of either unit unless you enjoyed action oriented DVDs at very loud levels (approaching reference level) though.

Do you have flexibility in where the subwoofer can be located or is there a predetermined spot already picked out?

That is a very good point. When I try to match a system to a room I'm usually a bit conservative with the performance estimates for this very reason----ensuring there's a bit of "headroom" left in the tank even at louder listening levels. There's also a few variables to consider in addition to the expected master volume levels.

1)Will the bass channel be calibrated to the same level as the other channels? Generally, the lower the master volume level the more likely we'll prefer to have the bass *hot*. Whether that is 1dB or 5dB....it needs to be considered.
2)DVD / Blu-ray can vary a bit in their recorded levels.
3)Will the receiver boost the bass at lower listening levels?
4)will the system ever use a master volume setting a little above the expected? For example, friends in from out of town---we often like to push the system a bit higher than normal for a quick demo.

Lastly, remember a system that isn't constantly pushed to its limits will usually enjoy a longer life cycle too..smile.gif

I'd pull the peak down when time allows. Its not just more output....that's is going to take a long time to decay. You can always shape the curve to your preference of course...but I'd tame the peak to start and then tweak from there.

Also, with REW capabilities you should consider a good manual EQ too. I know the old behringer feedback destroyers worked great at $99. I think the new units are $125-150 though?

Thanks for the insight Tom!! Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the mini dsp I was looking at has a 6 or 7band eq that integrates with rew?

These are many of the reasons I went with the dual XS15 set up. Just having some extra headroom will be nice when & if I want to do one of those louder demos for friends! wink.gif Once the subs are broken in of course! biggrin.gif I watched a movie last night & I was just drooling about how good it will sound with my subs. Tom said I will have them before next weekend to enjoy! biggrin.gif

That's the very same reason why I will go with dual XV30. tongue.gif (The wife doesn't know it yet....and I just can't afford it yet since things keep braking down in this place mad.gif)

Hi Jim,

I'm not sure when your duals will ship(today or Monday) but on a related note we are actually caught up with XS30 orders. We are now shipping them same day/next business day depending on time of order. It took us 5+ months to be able to say it but
XS30s are "in stock"!. (i know---who knows for how long..smile.gif
