Official Power Sound Audio Thread - Page 134

I get it.

If you look back at pg. 131 post 3105 I simply posted a graph and some info about PSA subs not tripping my breakers. Circuit breakers at that time been a recent discussion in this thread. It was the first time I plugged them and fired them up, and ran any graphs.

I didn't post the graph and ask for help, nor did I expect to get it. I appreciate (very much) that people took interest and provided useful advice. Further- I stated clearly a page back I felt this was taking away from the PSA thread.

Most of the graphs were posted at the request of basshead as a result of him trying to teach me the proper method of graphing my results. And again, I really appreciate that help. He's been helpful to me in other threads as well.

Beeman got his panties in a bunch and that's what started all of this. I have no idea what his problem is, and don't really care to be honest. Keeping everyone happy is impossible. I hope he has a better day tomorrow. He's never come across to me the way he did in the last few posts here. Everyone has their days.

I'm happy to delete all the posts I've made if the forum community wants that.

And.. thanks for suggesting I talk with Tom. I have been talking with him yesterday and a bit today. He is the one who turned my onto the Rane PE-17. He also suggested, although it was a long shot, to try moving the phase of one of the speakers a 1/4 turn at time to see what happens on the graph.

Tom's great, has been great since the first day I contacted him.... which was a Sunday evening I might add. Just looked.... Tom and I have exchanged 64 emails. I can't say enough about how kind he has been as well as resourceful. He's provided links, instruction .PDFs, product suggestions, products that might not be ideal, etc. .. .CS goes a long way with me and Tom has exceeded that x10.

I just had my theater chairs dropped off. The courier gouged our custom handrail, door that I just got done oil base painting for 5 days, door casing, and there are two holes in my row of four chairs. Point is - good CS is very hard to come by these days.

I think the positive part of the XV30f is it's small footprint, and I can always add another if I didn't think the bass was enough.

I've never once read or been told that, if I had the choice, one sub would be better than two. I know Tom has told me that two XV15s would be almost identical to one xv30.

Hope that helps!

Well this is a PSA thread and you do have PSA subs so I really don't think posting your graphs in the thread is really that big of a deal. But like someone else mentioned you'll most likely get a lot more feed back if you started your own thread on the topic. There's a never ending resource of extremely smart people on these forums but not all of them may go to the PSA thread.

I thought maybe two 15's spread out evenly along my front wall might be better than one larger sub. My thoughts are to get two of whatever I choose eventually but for now the "big boy" would work well I'm sure. My def tech supercube 1 has served me well but it's making a noise, I think it's the main speaker not one of the radiators. So I really need to do something.

I also didn't mean to get off on the wrong foot with anyone on this thread, so if I offended anyone I apologize smile.gif

Tom suggested, if I wanted the most bang, to get an XV30f and then save for another. This was before he knew I had enough in my budge for 2 XVf30s. So either way your line of thought is correct.

You could also get 2 XV 15 now, then two more later. You'd have all the options then. You could co-located them or spread out four all over your room.

:scratches head: hmmm... now that I think about it I have the perfect spot for one xv15..... but then I'd need a spot for my theater because my wife would divorce me.

I'll talk to Tom but until I rearrange my setup a little I have one spot, so the 30f is looking really good to me. I just upgraded my front 3 speakers and pre/pro so all I'm missing is some good bass. Also you can't lose the wife over more subs eek.gif

You are a cool cat from the revel thread. Man a great sub is gonna take your system to a whole new level. I am still torn on getting a 2nd sub.

I don't know if the ported version is the best avenue for you. Don't forget your F52s have that tight high end bass. I'd take a hard look at the sealed ones.

Thanks, your a good dude too smile.gif I guess a call to PSA customer service is in order for a recommendation. The one thing I'm lacking is a good sub so I'm looking forward to some real bass.

I'm not sure if this picture has been shared on this forum but I thought I would post it non the less. It's the back plate of the Triax Driver.

agree with you/.A solid entry level sub like the PB10nsd or STF-2 would be a great place to start. 10.gif

Doesn't matter where you’re at, that old PB1000-STF-2 dilemma always comes up. wink.gif

I would love to see a conversion kit that would enable the triax drivers in the xv boxes. Tom? wink.gif

Speaking of. Seems Tom has abandoned this thread. I see him on BR and shack but not here.

Oh I don’t know.. I don’t see any questions his way. He did say the Triax driver would ad no benefit to the XV enclosure though. In short a dB at best if I remember correctly.

But how would the sound compare?

You would only gain about 1db to upgrade the drivers and it would cost you a whole lot of extra cash to do it. Mostly because the Triax drivers really require a lot of power, more then the amp in your sub can produce to really see any improvement in output.

We were hoping you would pick up a Triax and let us know? smile.gif

I am sure Tom is extremely busy right now gearing up for the first shipment of Triax's.

I few weeks ago he posted in here that the Triax's driver thrives in a very specific environment (high power amp/sealed box) and would add almost nothing over the regular XV driver.
I still have yet to understand why folks get all hung up on drivers....especially the few on this forum that claim the xv drivers are cheap. Imo its all about the combination amp, driver, enclosure. Stuffing a different driver in the same enclosure with the same amp makes no sense and will offer next to no gain as previously mentioned. On contrary to what some believe, the xv drivers are high quality and PSA has yet to have one fail to date. smile.gif

PDX, this is not directed at you, just thinkin out loud.
