Strange, with audyssey xt32 mine sound just right biggrin.gif who knows how they had it running while on demo. Overall theyre real nice, crispsounding speakers, just a lil too tame for me lol

What do you mean a little too tame?

Just that the output and power handling capabilities aren't as high as id like, also wouldn't mind the drivers being larger. I got them because they looked good and went well with my setup and sound good. since then ive been craving an upgrade, not because I need one but because HT is a drug and I want more biggrin.gif

If you are curious, give the Revel F208 / C208 a try. This is what I have and they are great speakers with plenty of dynamic capability.

Speakers are highly subjective but I feel they are clearly a notch above the B&W CM10. And yes, the B&W is a bit bright.

Why didn't you get the CM9's ? Didn't like the Martin Logan ESLs?

Hi all,

Quick inventory update.

The new dates for the expected arrival of the Power-X drivers we have been waiting on(for over a MONTH) is Tuesday(21st) for a small shipment and Friday(the 24th) for a large shipment. So we'll have a good number of orders shipping on Tuesday/Wed/Thurs.....then on Friday we'll have a big shipping day. Any remaining orders will be built over the week and by the following Monday(27th) I expect to be (finally) back to our same day/next day typical order fulfillment status. I just got off the phone with Scott Atwell, owner of Ficaraudio who is our OEM for our 15" Power-X drivers, and he personally assured me these inventory arrival dates would be fulfilled.

I realize this isn't the news everyone was hoping for as we had been promised a small shipment of drivers to arrive this week.(and i have been projecting ship dates based on this).

I could outline a 50 page short story regarding this saga starting several months ago with a typhoon hitting China and starting a large domino effect regarding magnet production. I'll save that for another time though.

Also, any order that takes more than 30 days to fulfill will be discounted an additional 5% (over and above any other discount that may apply to the order).

Please bear with us for a few more days and everything will be back to normal. As usual, I'll be at the office 7 days a week.....so please don't hesitate to email/call me with ANY questions about our products or the current back order situation....even on Saturday or Sunday!

You know what's worse than a "slow boat" to China? ......a slower boat to the US with a cargo container loaded with subwoofer drivers.

I don't recall which one of you guys it is, but I recall one of you going from a XV15 to a XS30. What type of difference did you notice and was it worth the switch?
That was me.

I noticed a much smoother sound. Deeper extension and just IMHO a better quality of bass ( and this is all saying a lot because I loved my xv15. I just wanted more extension) I love the switch so much I bought a second xs30 smile.gif
post #8201 of 9892

I just ordered a XV15 Monday and now I might see if they'll switch it to an XS30... I was flip flopping between the two before I purchased and I'm still doing it now. What size is your room Brian?

I really need to stay off these forums lol

my room is 13x15x8

what size is yours? maybe call Tom and see which he recommends for you

That is a fairly small room for dual XS30s, what did Tom recommend in your setting? I know I bought more than he recommended, but I have no regrets with my pair of XS30s in a 24x13x8 size room.

My current room is 14x18x7 but I am moving come spring time and am not sure what size my stuff will be going in to but I can't see it being much larger.

I spoke with Tom via email before I had ordered earlier in the month and he suggested that, at my listening levels, a XV15 would suffice but I just keep getting that nagging feeling, "wonder what the XS30 would be like."

I think I'm going to switch. It is only $350 more and tax returns aren't too far away... RIGHT?!

Tom would know best, but I would think that you would want ported for a room that is larger or open to the rest of the house. If you have a small sealed room an XS30 I'm sure would be amazing.

Well my situation is a bit different. Initially he recommended a xv15 (when looking for a pb12 replacement) and I obliged....he then said think about adding a second down the road....then I came into some extra cash and wanted more extension so I grabbed the xs30..and LOVED it...then somehow talked the wife into letting me get a second....and there you have it.

it depends on your endgame...what are your expectations...

I would prefer slightly less output (since I NEVER hit the limits on the xv15) and more extension...so the xs30 is perfect for me...even though it has much more output above 30hz than the xv15 (but slightly less from 20-30...and MUCH more from 10-15)

I know my room is small-ish for duals (although it does open up to other rooms)...but my main thought is I wanted a smooth a result as possible...and it effectively gave me MUCH more extension since the headroom was that much greater...allowing me to push the EQ in the low octaves to achieve that.

Also in a year or two I will be in a new house (bigger as the family grows) and I will require a dedicated enclosed HT in this one...as opposed to my Living room being my HT now

but...

I am in heaven

Tom recommended the XV15 for me, 2 of them actually. But I was looking for duals regardless for room smoothing. If you are ok spending the extra, it is worth it to eliminate those "what-ifs" in the future. I have done that with most of my gear, but I always end up getting that same question to myself anyways... You will always find yourself saying, for only $350 more... One could start with an initial budget of $300, but end up buying a PSA Triax in the end.
very true....I ended up going from a 550$ sb12 to dual 1200$ subs

but also keep in mind I would rather have dual xs30's than pay 3000$ for a single triax wink.gif
post #8209 of 9892

I don't even know what to expect to be honest. This is my first foray into HT stuff and I'd like to avoid the constant upgrade itch that I see around the forums. I bought a VT60, X2000, and EMPTek towers, surrounds and center within Nov - Dec. I also don't know how sealed vs ported sound as I've only had ported subs on computer speaker systems which are probably not even remotely in the same league. I'm going in blind and trusting what I've read for the past month, but I am very happy with what I have purchased so far.

I am currently using an old Advent AV550S sub that bottoms out in any situation where it needs to get loud so anything will probably sound better.

My initial budget was ~1,300 so I'm still below it with the XS30. My mind has gone from a PC12+ to VTF-15H to XV15 an now XS30?

i think corner loaded in your smallish room you will be blown away with either sub....but after having both I still say get the xs30
post #8211 of 9892

Yea, after sub crawling I found the best sounding place, to me, is the back corner. XS30 here I come, sorry to Tom for the nuisance of switching my order lol.

That was probably me. The midbass is more prominent. I don't push it too hard. Honestly, its hard to tell when they aren't side by side. I could have kept the xv15 and been fine. The xs30 being sealed, sounds tighter, it does extend deeper. I like the looks of the xs30 more also. Also, I have a jamo sealed servo 15" sub, so I thought the xs30 would be a better match being they are both sealed.

How do you like the sb12's ? How big are they? Small? I'm sure the xs30 would speak those.

you talking to me?

It was two years ago I had 1 sb12....it was VERY small and surprisingly had a lot of output...but just isnt in the same league as any other mentioned subs. would be very nice in a 2 channel small office environment
post #8215 of 9892
Ya, I was taking to you. I suppose even dual sb12's against a xs30 wouldn't be fair.
correct
I just got my XV15 about 2.5 weeks ago, and I love it. I think the sealed subs sound better for music, but after hearing my XV15, I was pretty surprised since bass from Jazz music sounds pretty awesome. I don't think you can go wrong with either seal or ported. However, I do want to add another XV15. I thought about going with a XV30 or XV30F, but I don't think the wife would of gone with those monsters. Furthermore, there isn't much I can do about placement since I have to use WAF.
My sub upgrades were:

SVS PB12NSD to PSA XV15 to PSA XS30

Dedicated HT room; 12.5 W x 17.5 D x 8 ceilings.

Upgraded from the XV15 to the XS30 after multiple conversations with Tom V. I was just un-sure of what I may have been missing. In my room the XS30 way outperforms the XV15 in the mid to upper bass range. I also seem to like the sealed sub sound better that the ported sub's.

I have recently added front corner, floor to ceiling bass traps. I made them out of (3) 2" OC703 thick panels from floor to ceiling. The bass and LFE has never been better in my room. Much, Much more accurate and less obtrusive.

Just my 2 cents!

Brian, I have a triax and traded in my dual XS30s for it, I really liked the XS30s a lot. What advantage is there of having the dual XS30s over a single Triax. I'm having some placement issues with my Triax, since trading in the XS30s I've moved my setup along the short wall of my rather long narrow room 14' X 27' X 8' and I have the triax in the right front corner, I'm getting tremendous output from the Triax just not at the MLP. Jim confirmed my suspicions that the short wall is 1/2 the length of the room which the room is causing overlapping room modes at 40 and 80 Hz thus the 40 Hz null. I measured 7-8 dB difference in output just 3 feet to the left and right of the MLP. I also confirmed this by placing the Triax in the original spot where my single XS30 was and where the original MLP was and all the output was there with the Triax. I tried all kinds of locations with my current setup and have improved a more evenly output at the MLP, I still am not happy though. I have two choices, move my setup back to the long wall or get a second Triax.. I guess I kind of answered the question why you would rather have dual XS30s than a single Triax. I should be getting the same output from a single Triax as dual XS30s, no? Thanks for listening. tongue.gif
Cheers Jeff

But you never answered the unasked question.......when are you getting the second Triax?
