The Audyssey mic will get you in the ballpark, but far from accurate.

I use a calibrated UMM-6 USB mic from here.

As Tom recommended for me (also in the manual), set the gain at 1 o'clock and cross over at 150hz (i.e. let the receiver do this) and phase setting at min, before you run Audyssey.

Hi all,

Update:

Despite our best efforts to maintain inventory levels as demand continues to grow we've reached a temporary outage. New orders(on all power-X products) will not ship for approximately 2 weeks. As always, no order will be charged (transfer any funds) until we ship.

I believe we will be able to ship(within 3-4 business days) all back ordered XS30s that were ordered prior to February 12th. If you order on/after February 12th I'm afraid it will be approximately 2 weeks until shipment.

We literally have "tons" of inventory inbound and we will be back to normal( new orders shipping in 1 business day) first half of March. This should also include the XS30.

I was originally looking at another company's sealed dual 15"s subwoofer, but I got a bad vibe when they were out of stock for a long period of time with no updates on their website or any forums. I also really liked what people have to say about PSA around here, that + a great design and fair price was enough for me to make my decision.

I just received a 2x4 Minidsp and UMIK mic and I am working on integrating it with my XV-15 duals. I have been working hard to remove a 60 hz null in my room with small sub position and seating position changes and it looks like I am finally on to a workable curve. I hope to have some graphs to post this weekend.

I've done a little more playing around with my XS30, but I seem to be having an Audyssey issue. Originally, I had it in a corner, and after running Audyssey, the lower bass was killer, but there seemed to be almost no mid-bass at all, even with the LPF set to 150 on my receiver. I ended up moving it to the front wall next to the TV, and reset Audyssey. After doing this, mid-bass was excellent, low-end was still there, but not as powerful. I wasn't going to run Audyssey again until I had a chance to do a sub-crawl or mess with REW, but I ended up running it this afternoon.

Well, I got similar results to having the sub in the corner. Low-end bass is killer, but there NO mid-bass punch at all. There's a video game as well as some music that was kicking me in the chest the other day with just the default receiver settings, but once I run audyssey, the mid-bass completely disappears,

Can anyone speculate as to why this might be happening? I have the sub gain at about 2 o'clock, and the LPF set to max. The receivers LPF is also at 150. Is my mic bad maybe, or am I missing something else important?

Could it be that with audyssey engaged you have flat bass across the frequency range whereas before certain frequencies could have been exaggerated to make you feel the hit in the chest? Do you have any way of taking some measurements at various frequencies?

I plan to play with REW this weekend. Though I don't have a good mic, I'm just going to use my Audyssey mic just to get a feel for it.

Also, I cant imagine this to be the case, especially in comparison to lower frequencies. I played some music that I know has some kickin double-bass, and it sounded like the sub wasn't even on. In contrast, this same music would make my chest feel like it was being punched on the 2 JL Audio 10w3's that I used to have in my car. I'm not an audio guru by any means, and I'm fairly new to home audio, but I've owned car systems before, and I'm not one to go artificially boosting frequencies, I like to try and keep things flat, and just let sheer volume take care of everything.

Also, I ran Audyssey a few months ago when I first got my speakers, and without a sub I'm fairly certain that they were hitting the midbass notes harder. Also, stuff that I expect to be punchy in movies, just sounds kinda boomy instead. For example, the first fight between Batman and Bane, all I could hear with Audyssey on were the lower frequencies, and instead of feeling the punches, I was just hearing what sounded like the lower frequency portion of the punches, and it sounded more boomy than anything.

I may be making a purchase from PSA as it sounds like my MFW is on the way out. Can anyone give me a comparison between the XS30 and an XV15? My current room is not that big but it will not be the room my theater is in forever. How does an XV15 cvompare to a stock MFW-15? How about the XS30 against the MFW?

I just swapped out my receiver from the Denon 1911 to the Denon 1913 and was having the exact same issue...my midbass was gone and it sure as heck was there on the 1911. Knowing it was there, I started digging into Audyssey...and found it was the culprit. The Dynamic Volume to be exact. Make sure you go in and turn that baby off. It was killing all of the bass in my XS30. It defaulted to Medium Compression on all of my inputs, so I have had to go in to each input and turn it off. Major difference. I did keep the Dynamic EQ on which helps the mid bass punch a little bit. Hope that helps some!

Well, after doing a little more poking around, it appears as though my fronts and center channel were getting crossed-over at 40hz for some reason. The center is rated -3dB @ 60hz and the mains are -3 @ 48hz. I know that room gain can improve response, but I'm quite certain they aren't getting that low. I'll have to run it again tomorrow with the crossover set higher and see if that fixes things, though I'm somewhat convinced that i'm dealing with a larger problem, as there is more wrong with the sound than the missing mid-bass.

Something appears to have happened between now and the last time I used Audyssey. I used it when I got my speakers a few months ago, and have been very pleased with the results. However, now it's giving me nothing but problems. For example; if I do a reset on the receiver, everything sounds pretty good without me having to change any settings from default. The speakers have a nice full sound, and the sub plays everything very cleanly and blends well with the rest of the speakers. But, if I run Audyssey, it seems to suck the life out of the sound above 40hz.

The strangest part though, is that the sub volume goes up dramatically, and not in a good way. It's as if Audyssey boosts a small frequency range by a very large amount, and it makes the bass sound extremely muddy/boomy. Audyssey even turns the sub level down a little compared to default, yet it's still twice as loud as it is with just the default settings. It gives me lifeless sound, and a sub that just plays a really loud 30hz note anytime there's any bass to play. I would compare it to listening to a table-top radio during a thunderstorm.

I'll run Audyssey again tomorrow with the cross-over set higher, but I have a feeling that it's just going to give me even more one-note bass. The wire for the mic is pretty long and thin, I wonder if maybe it has a short or something.

After running audyssey, have you checked the sub and other speaker levels ? Try manually adjusting all speaker levels to 75 db including sub. If you prefer, you can run sub 2 to 5 db hot. Then try adjusting the speaker crossover to 80hz. You could also try experimenting different cross over levels and find what best suits.
