To be honest, I dont know squat about readings, levels, or anything else about sound measuring, I guess I just need something for me test with then post the results in here so somebody who knows can tell if its good or bad.
I imagine a 40-60 dollar meter will be plenty fine, I dont think I am going to become OCD on measuring anything, just more out of curiosity....and S&G's

Well, when you...I mean if you do become OCD, the Dayton Omnimic should be the next item on your list.

eljay, do you have any experience with the new version V2 omnimic. I would really like to get involved with measurements, please forgive my ignorance, I don't have a clue as to how to use the Omnimic and what is involved in getting started. Could you push me in the direction as to how to get started with this endeavor. Should I purchase the Dayton V2 Omnimic for starters and go from there? Thank you for the time, I hope I am not hijacking this thread. My dual XS30s will be here sometime this week and want to have a semblance of knowing about taking measurements. Thanks again.

No experience with the v2, although I understand that they are individually calibrated. Basic use (with the v1 and, I would imagine, the v2 as well) consists of loading the software onto a laptop, plugging in the mic, running the test-tones discs...and viewing the resulting FR curves.

One more quick question, is it worth my effects to do this, in other words would you reco getting the mic and going from there? I think I can even (maybe) learn how to do this as I am a complete newb:mad:

Whether or not it's worth it is a subjective matter. If you feel you need one (or you want one) and you're prepared to spend the money, then it's worth it; otherwise, it's not.

The only reason I got one is because I thought it would be a helpful tool to have and I was able to get one for $200.

My opinion, if the person has the money and doesn't need special cabling to make things happen, the "OmniMic" kit is a good, simple way to go; easy setup and small learning curve.

I went the custom method and downloaded a copy of REW because I needed lots of cables and such to be able to reach the office where the desktop computer resides.

FYI, I went with an EMM-6 microphone that comes with a unique downloadable calibration file.

Thought this was a funny picture. This is actually from Thanksgiving. My daughter and my niece enjoying my 3 XV15's while the rest of us watch some football.

My daughter setup on them today and watched a movie on her iPad while I we had people over for some playoff football.

Unfortunately no. I had an issue with the grill on my pb12 where is kept rattling loose and eventually off. So it's going back. And Tom recommended this as the closest reacement with a slight improvement in digging deeper and going louder for virtually the same price

Just received an email from Tom, my dual XS 30's shipped today, and I should receive them tomorrow. Look like I'm taking a "sick day" tomorrow. Cough, Cough:D

My XS30 shipped today!! Been singing the song "I'm so excited!" over the last couple hours.

Here is the prescription medicine :

Hear dual XS30 at insane levels every two hours with only 5 mins interval ! Repeat this for 1 month. Then your cough will disappear !!

I'm sure it will knock the cough right out of me.

A couple of weeks ago, in this thread, you mentioned receiving a pair of XS30's. Have you had a chance to dial them in and if so, do you have any thoughts to share?

Thought my XS30 was gonna arrive today but the carrier scheduled for tomorrow...UGH! MUST.BE.MORE.PATIENT.

Love the prices and quality of online purchases but the waiting kills ya. I have some replacement drivers and passive radiators on order that should be here tomorrow. It's almost like I dream of having them in my possession. Come here my little precious.

I thought mine were coming today too. They arrived at the destination terminal at 615 this morning and haven't moved since and now there is no delivery date listed. This sucks, now I'm going to have to take another day off tomorrow, which is ok, but, I'm not a patient man

FYI, If they were shipped by RL Carriers for resident delivery. You need to call they to set a time and date. If not they can hold them for 2 days before calling.
Mine arrived at 5AM and I had to call them to see when they were coming. That's when they said they call in 2 to 3 days to setup a time.

Sure.. There are my impressions so far on my dual XS30 subs.

These subs are built like a tank. Feels very solid. They are quite heavy, which is a direct indication of how well they are built.

Following are the movies I tested these subs with so far :

Avatar (especially the destroying of the hometree scenes)
The dark knight
Super 8 (The train accident scene. The SUBS literally nailed this scene. Very impactful)
Tron legacy (this movie has inflated bass, however the subs handled with no issues)
Thor
Transformer


My impressions :
The bass is very well controlled, tight and deep. To my ears, the bass sounds natural and clean. For instance, when there are movies scenes where it rains, I could literally feel the rain. Explosive sound effects have great tactile feel. Most of the times, I did run the subs at reference level. The floor above my basement vibrates like crazy. Knocked off a few pictures off the family room right above my basement. Note that my basement theater is about 6000 Cu Feet and these dual subs nicely pressurizes my theater. I crossed my speakers at 80 Hz and I could never localize where the bass is coming from. The cabinet is completely inert. Not even once the subs bottomed out. I believe they really have tonnes of headroom. Not even once I sensed any distortion. I never realized what
I was missing all these years until I got these dual XS30s.

I got to tell you, these subs are my first true subs. Previously, I was using JBL Venue Sub 12. I had always known I need to upgrade to better subs. I did look at a few other subs like XV15, dual Rythmik FV15HP, Epik empire, HSU VTF-15H. At one point I was also contemplating JTR Caps and Seaton SubM, but they were out of my price range. That was when I got in touch with Tom and after exchanging a few emails, decided to take his (Tom) recommendation and ordered my dual XS30s. I am really very glad I did. I absolutely love them.
