My Samsung HLT5689S has recently crapped out on me and although I could get it fixed for 300-1k (yet to be determined), I'd rather just take that money and put it into a new TV.


I'm looking at the Samsung UN55D8000YF or Vizio XVT3D554SV


Both haves pros and cons

Samsung
(pros)
-ultra-thin bezel
-Contrast of 25,000,000:1
-much lighter (35lbs)
(cons)
-edge lit
-almost 2x the cost
-240Hz refresh

Vizio
(pros)
-full array led
-480Hz refresh rate
-1/2 the cost

(cons)
-Contrast of 10,000,000:1
-much thicker bezel
-heavier(68lbs)



Anything absolutely major that I'm missing?

Yes, if your Vizio fails one day past the warranty period, you're on your own. If you buy a Vizio, get an extended warranty since even Vizio themselves say their sets are "economically unrepairable."

By the way, contrast ratios are just hype (translate, BS) when you're talking those kind of numbers.

I went with the Samsung UN55D8000....

I got it "used - like new" from Amazon Warehouse....


freaking amazing TV... beautiful picture - couldn't be happier... and I haven't even done the calibration yet!!!!!

I'm stoked!
