It's basically the 65" version of this tv...

I think very little has changed if you look through the specs on Toshiba's website. I have looked at the 55" several times and even adjusted it somewhat in the store, it always leaves me unimpressed.

Here is the link to Toshiba's site for all the info on the 65".

Just saw this deal too... was hoping to find out a little bit more about it... trying to decide if we are going to upsize the TV in my media room or if I'm just going to hold on for more cash to get my projector...

At these prices you cannot really lose... I would personally get the tv and mount it. Then save a little more money and get the projector and motorized screen to drop in front of tv. I installed a setup like this in a home. Built a pocket for the screen to recess and man can i say it was a awesome setup. Makes for a great dual purpose room.

+1...I have no idea what some like dapimp is whining about. We're talking 65" here ok for $998...not DLP or plasma BUT LCD! that's just nuts if you think about it. At this price even college kids can afford this size for gaming and what not. 65" is truly the size for real HT you can feel proud about.

U kidding me? try midnight the night before. I had to get in line at midnight just for the 32" to get a ticket to come back. If you come at 8am it will be gone.

Umm, I was not whining about anything, I was only trying to help. I simply posted info on it and gave a brief impression of the very similar 55". I never claimed it was not a great deal but people's expectations need to be realistic when considering a 65" flat panel for under $1K. There is no need to downplay my impressions of the 55" just because you wish to purchase the 65", now you are just being rude to the guy that posted the only real information in this thread.

Anyone have any thoughts on which is a better deal, Toshiba 65" vs the Sharp 60" at BB for two hundred less?

This size at this price is truly mind boggling. Its cheap enough to put in a bedroom if you do not like it or hell... just return it....what's to really lose?

I too am very interested in a review on this TV. I plan on buying one based on the similar 55" Toshiba 55G310U reviews as seen at Toshiba's site.
Actually it appears to have more in common with the Toshiba 55HT1U.

Plus you have to keep in mind that people buying an 'inexpensive' 55" are more likely to be impressed and more likely to have some level of purchase justification when posting their comments.

Again it's about perspective. About a year ago a really "great" deal would be a 50" 720p plasma for $999. Now because LCD, plasmas, DLP, FP, have gone such a long way in terms of performance and specs that a huge 65" 1080p LCD not 720p can be had in place of that 720p 50" plasma.

I mean Cmon do you really need reviews now at this time for a Toshiba no less? Look at the no name brands like Apex, Emerson, Dynex etc....they look fantastic at 720p...seriously.

I like the way you think...
Was wondering how we could keep the PS move and Wii in there with a projector - this solution would definitely help

Okay.... Gotta make plans to not sleep...

I dunno about $999 for a 720p plasma last year, I'd say maybe 5 years ago. I got the old Vizio 50" for $768 4 years ago. I paid about $512 for a 50" early last year.

Good question. Will have to ponder on that one. Right now the only thing I can think of is to mount flush to ceiling. That should give you some room just underneath the beam but then you are going to have keystone problems. Using too much will degrade picture quality.

You may just have to use the tv for gaming and screen for movies. Unless you have enough room to not be in the way of the projector...if you find one with a short throw you could stand underneath it...

I am very curious about this TV as well. Seems brand new and showed up primarily as a door buster for the retailers. I am curious because its very big and I am pretty sure its CCFL back lit. I have not warmed up to LED back lighting just yet but since LED is the future you almost have to grab these CCFL sets while you can. At the price point this TV is selling for buying it is a no brainer. I doubt most will get the big Black Friday deal but it seems Black Friday pricing becomes the norm after about 3 or 4 months + or - a few hundred.

Only thing that has me genuinely concerned is the source of the panel. The few 65" sets created over the past few years really did not look to good. For example the Samsung 65" was not real clear and was often grainy looking and the Sharp 65" from a few years ago looked even worse. The Sony 65" (929 I think) looks pretty darn good. SO depending on what panel Toshiba is using and the processing it could go either way. Toshiba made great stuff 10 years ago but I think they have fallen off the charts now. Someone is making that panel for them I am sure as Toshiba has no fab for a 65" panel.

Another thing I am curious about is how many people are going to grab these on Black Friday with zero ability to carry it home? I bet this thing comes in a gigantic box.

BTW, BB has this display on its web site. The price is not nearly as good as WM but still not to bad depending on how it performs. Here you can get free delivery. Something to think about.
