I notice that when the projector first powers up the only color it puts out is green? This only lasts about 10-20 seconds and the color seems to become normal gradually. It's not like the other colors suddenly turn on, they seam to fade in, for lack of a better way to describe it.
Picture looks great after that.
Anyone else see this effect? Do you thinks it's anything to be concerned about?

Thanks and great forum.

don't worry about it, the UHP lamps can take a little while to get up to temp, similar to the color shift when first turning on HID lights in a car. The same thing happens to my 5010 and several other projectors I own.

enjoy the projector!

Thanks zombie10k

I just found some info on this in the 5010 forum and it does seem normal.

so far so good for me, but I have not watched a bunch of 3D yet, so perhaps I am not the best judge.

Assuming most here would recommend this projector..... I've got a Panny AE900..... Have a 120" Carada screen (2:35), 1.3 gain and Panamorph lens.

Think I finally convinced my wife that a new PJ is required. I've got 3,500 hours on the original bulb and it's just getting tough to watch. I haven't spent much time looking until now and am trying to get a handle on all the PJ's out there I should be looking at.

So, lens support is key for me. 3D isn't big on my list, but at this point if I'm buying a new PJ I might as well get it because the kids will love it. I'm used to the Panny which has auto lens/focus, etc..... pretty basic. Those are nice to haves but not firm requirements for me. Really want to stay under the $4,000 range.

I'm also looking at the JVC. Any other suggestions? Threads I should check out? I will check out zombie10k's mini-shootout thread but that's gonna take a while to read because it's freakin huge!

Thanks all!

How do the blacks compare to the RS1? I recently had a chance to view Legends of Flight in 3d on the 6010 and was pretty impressed even though the projector was giving a cinema filter error code. Not sure what mode etc... on the 6010. I'm guessing it was in THX mode? Have not seen any 2d on the projector and that projector is off and on it's way to Epson for replacement/repair.

Not sure I can help a ton, other than I know my 6010 (or 5010) has the lumens in calibrated mode for your screen.

I have a 120" 1.3 gain screen and the image is spectacular.

I researched a bunch other projectors, and most of them, except the BenQ W6000 has the power I needed in this price range.

Thanks for the info! The anamorphic support definitely makes it more difficult. A 5010 would be fine for me, and it looks like I have to pay $1000 more to get a 6010. I dont need a mount. The extra bulb is nice, extra year of warranty is nice, THX mode is probably worth something..... but the price difference and the fact that you can only get a 6010 from a dealer doesn't thrill me.

I need to do more research on what else fits my needs....

Yeah, I agree with you...it was the MOUNT that I needed that pushed it over the edge...plus you do get 2 pairs of 3D glasses with the 6010. So that is another $200 value.

Anyways...good luck searching...we are here if you need anymore 5010/6010 feedback.

If you have a reasonably recent Onkyo AVR/AVC, you can do the anamorphic stretch there. I have not tested to see if it supports 3D in the AVRs that support 3D. I would bet it does.

Good job making that Panny last so long.

Coincidentally, I have an Oknyo TX-NR1007. It's a couple years old. It I know it has support for viewing modes because I have to mess with it when switching from TV to bluray. I'll have to give it a try and see if it works OK with my Panny set to normal.

I'm surprised that Panny has lasted so long! The bulb is definitely way past it's useful life though. Shadows and darker material is tough to watch.

That was the first projector I bought...and began CIH with the old Panamorph UV85. I jumped to the JVCs with the RS1 (which was a phenomenal change), but the new Epsons are making me take notice. I think that the difference in black levels would be noticable in a bat cave, but in rooms that are not, I think that the Epson 6010/5010 might appear fairly similar in black level.

Cheers.

I was at a local dealer yesterday, and talked to another one on the phone. Both of them said for 2D they'd take the 9700UB over the 6010. This was the first home 3D projector I had ever seen and thought it looked very good. I don't know if the 3D thing is for me though.... I found myself having to re-focus my eyes on different parts of the screen. It was the same for my wife.

The dealer had a 9700 as well and we watched it. Hard to tell.... the 6010 wasn't calibrated yet, but was in THX mode. The colors on the 9700 had a lot more punch.... but who knows how it was calibrated. The 6010 almost looked a bit muted to me...??? I dunno.

Might be back to looking at the 9700 after this. For 2 different dealers to both push a cheaper projector, that says something.
what is their motivation.. maybe trying to get rid of old stock? Those 9700's weren't flying off the shelves even in their prime.

if the projectors weren't calibrated, then it's unfair to compare them. THX mode on my JVC looks flat to me as well vs. a good calibrated mode.

The 5010/6010 looks excellent once calibrated and the 3D is some of the best of the current models right now.

I AGREE with zombie10k - BUY the 6010

I hear you, but as I said, they were both speaking of 2D when saying the 9700 is better. That very well could be. The one guy told me to come back on a Sunday sometime to test both. he said they're closed on Sundays but he'd open up for a couple hours and we couple go back and forth between the 2.

I've started reading more on the RS45 too. I love the idea of motorized zoom and focus. I'm lazy, and I don't have a sled for my lens so it is in place all the time. So, 1:78 and 1:85 content is always stretched horizontally to fill the screen. I accept it... because it's te way I want it for most movies....

The thought of being able to hit a button and have the projector automatically shoot a 16:9 image on my screen is advantageous.

Decisions... decisions.....

When calibrated the 6010 is gorgeous in 2D and 3D. I've seen the 9700 and disagree it's better than the 6010 in 2D. If you buy the RS45 you definitely should forget 3D completely, it is not good at all, flickering that is very annoying and also ghosts more than most projectors out there. It does have a nice 2D picture though but lamp replacement cost is high and they have a history of premature lamp dimming in the past so not sure if you would still experience it. I was between the RS45, 6010, BenQ W7000 and HW30 and bought the 6010 and LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

I bought a 6010 for my dedicated light controlled home theater, and running in THX mode I find it hard to believe that any projector could do a lot better, except maybe with black levels - which are still pretty darn good on the 6010. Stunning, bright picture. Detail is impressive. 3D is good but of course not as bright as 2D; I assume from the discussion that some other projectors would be worse. Overjoyed with the purchase. Seems a bargain. About 11 years ago I paid 10K for a used Electrohome 9500LC. Times have changed.

I wish they did a firmware update that activates F.I in 3d......

I just saw happyfeet 2 there was way to much ghosting on the epson.

Its above my tolerance..... a pitty

Did somebody else has seen this movie on the epson also?

I plan on picking one of these bad boys up soon once I get a few details ironed out on setup since this will be my first projector in our theater room.

Can someone tell me how long the power cord is? Based on my room ceiling I may need to hang the projector a good 2.5 to 3 feet from the ceiling to align the projector near the top of the screen, so want to make sure that's even feasible.
