No, but it is sort of consistent with something they are hearing in Europe as well.

Where are you located? Recall is a strong word, thread on avsforum talks about a firmware update.

I have had a delay in getting my 6010 from the dealer as well. He said it was delayed from Epson for a software update and "fixing the lens".

Now the guy who told me this sounded like he didn't know what he was talking about, so i thought he was just making up excuses for why it was taking a couple of weeks to get one. He said they needed to fix something for the anamorphic lens that was causing a double image. He implied that it came with an anamorphic lens when he told me that. Of course I knew better, but didn't feel like arguing with him so I just let him talk.

So that is consistent with what you heard. He told me that Epson had to update and repackage.

I just want to get my 6010! I'm happy to have the latest software, though. I should have it in a week, hopefully.

Hey, another 6010 owner in NE Ohio. Welcome!

Thanks! Although I'm still a soon-to-be owner.

The latest software is 104 and the latest shipment of the 6010s have it. I checked this with Epson today for a unit I received for a customer. Any dealer should be able to install the new software.

What exactly does the new software do?
I just checked and the one I picked up on Friday has software version 103. I have no idea what changes 104 made to 103. If you need to check the software version email me and I will tell you the menu string to check it.

I wonder why the firmware updates are so mysterious.
Epson gave me the string to check out the software version. I didn't ask if I could post it. So I won't.

Confirmed the new software is 104 and will be made available to dealers and service centers in the next few days along with appropriate install instructions. that's it for now.
Please no questions about why won't Epson allow an end user to do it or what does the new software do? I don't know.

Could you NE Ohio guys, pm me on where you purchased your 6010s? I've been researching an upgrade to my Mits HD1000u for a month now and was looking at 6010 and the Panny 7000. So much to consider, so many options... Currently leaning towards the epson.....
Thanks

Thanks for what info you "could" give. I guess I'll wait and see if anyone gets the new firmware, and confirms that it actually affects/improves the blurring on upsidedown ceiling mount, and not just the backwards operation of pixel alignment procedure.

I'm sure the other fixs are good, but not worth the time to me, to rush out and get it done.

Epson 6010's have been on back order forever but I just went over to my local shop (Theater Xtreme in Draper) and they had 12 of them sitting there. Got a good price and great advice.

I bought my 6010 there about two months ago. Great place. Paid $3300 mid-January. Excellent service. One of the top Epson projector dealers in the western U.S. Highly recommended. People come from out of state to buy there. Theater Xtreme (www.theaterdesigncenter.com) out of Draper, Utah.

Anyone know if you can leave a lens in place with the 6010 and it will throw a std 16:9 image? I read something about a projector that would do this... the JVC's perhaps..... Without a motorized lens and focus, it doesn't make the back and forth very easy.

You mean with an ADD ON anomorphic lens ?

Yes, leaving an anamorphic lens in place. I've got a Panamorph lens and in my current setup, I just leave it there all the time. So the entire screen is full even with 16:9 content.... I guess I've become used to things being a bit stretched with regular TV, but I'd much rather watch things properly formatted. I just don't want to deal with messing with the zoom and focus all the time....

Thinking of getting the 6010 over the Panny 7000 to replace a Panny 4000.

Can someone plz measure the exact distance that the Epson hangs from the ceiling to the bottom of the projector using the stand that comes with it. The reason I am asking is because my Panny 4000 hangs about 9 and 1/4 inches which is just enough clearance for the door to my home theater to clear. I cannot spare another inch or it won't clear. Also, what is the height of the 6010 on it's own? The Panny 4000 is just around 5 and 1/4 inches.

If anybody could provide me with this information, it would be most appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes you can. You just lose some horizontal resolution. See page 26 of the manual, "horizontal squeeze"

Man it is VERY CLOSE to 9 1/4' inches. Perhaps someone else can measure to verify. Tomorrow I could measure again with my wife holding so I can perhaps get a more accurate lookiel

I measured about 14 7/8", from ceiling to the lowest point of the projector, but my mount is angled about 15 degrees, due to the slanted ceiling. Mounted straight down, its most likely a little over 15"? Ceiling to the "top" of the projector, was about 9 1/4".

The manual says the projector is 6.2", or 159mm tall.

Thanks folks.

You both must be using different mounts or have taken different measuring points as 9 and 1/4 vs 14 and 7/8 is the measurements you give.

Can you confirm that you are measuring ceiling to bottom of the projector please. At 9 and 1/4, that would work but at 14 and 7/8 that would not work for me.

Also, does the 6010 come with an emitter or is there one built into the unit as with the Panny 7000?

Thanks again.

There are two mounting options...the flush mount and the pole mount. I am using the flush mount.

I am measuring from the ceiling to the bottom of the projector.

But like I said, my measurement might have been a bit off, like 1/8 or so as I was standing on my coach trying to balance. I can try again this evening if you want me to and even take a picture if that will help.

The solution costs less the $8 at Home Depot.
1 1/2" PVC pipe + (2) treaded adapters + glue + saw + black paint = perfect length extension for included chief mount.

You can drop it down to the correct height for your location and reduce tilting the projector.

Yep, mine is mounted with the included pole, thus the differences. The emitter is built into the front of the projector, but I think there is an option for a "booster" emitter.

Yep the emitteris built in and works fine...never had any issues with my 120" screen sitting 12-14 ft away

So just to confirm toofast68, as you have yours mounted the way I would be mounting mine. You are using the flush mount that came with the projector and from the ceiling to the bottom of the projector is around 9 and 1/4 inches give or take a couple of mm's at most? If so this will work for me.

Any of you debate the Panny 7000 over the 6010?
