TV Notes
Showtime Renews Shameless', House Of Lies' And Californication'
By Nellie Andreeva, Deadline.com - Feb. 1, 2012

After a strong start to the current season, Showtime has given an early renewal to its entire Sunday lineup of Shameless, House Of Lies and Californication. With the pickup of dark comedy House Of Lies, both of Showtime's freshman series greenlighted by entertainment president David Nevins are going into a second season, along with drama hit Homeland. Shameless has been picked up for a third season, while Californication was renewed for a sixth. These three shows are clearly resonating with audiences as evidenced by their steady growth on Sunday nights, Nevins said. We are extremely pleased with the creative work being done by the casts, producers and writers - and I so appreciate that each of these series has such a clear and distinctive voice.

Showtime's Sunday night lineup is posting double-digit year-over-year growth for its returning series and strong numbers for rookie House Of Lies. Shameless averages 4.75 million weekly viewers, up 30% vs. Season 1 to rank as Showtime's No. 2-rated show behind only Dexter. House Of Lies is on track to be Showtime's highest-rated comedy. Season 5 of Californication averages 2.96 million viewers across all platforms, up 10% from Season 4.
Based on the long-running UK series, Shameless was adapted by the original series' creator Paul Abbott and John Wells, who are executive producing with Andrew Stearn. William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum star on the series from John Wells Prods and Warner Bros TV. Corporate America satire House Of Lies, starring Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell, is created and executive produced by Matthew Carnahan. Jessika Borsiczky, Stephen Hopkins and Don Cheadle also executive produce the Showtime-produced show. Veteran Californication, starring David Duchovny, is created and executive produced by Tom Kapinos and executive produced by Duchovny.

Still keep losing interest in this and was surprised to see it's already renewed. To answer your question, maybe this:

Nice gif, thanks for the posting.

Wondered why it had taken such a big jump up then remembered this was the week for Kristen to dance in her underwear. Thanks for the clip. Should be interesting to see the numbers next week.
Yeah i was joking.

I just watched the episode ad even aside from her dancing around this week was much better than the last 2

More was shown in the final episode of Veronica Mars season 1. And that was on US broadcast TV.

There was no Veronica Mars broadcasted in my region (I think it was on UPN or something?).. now you taunted me to go and rent it on DVD.. LOL

I've been following her since Heroes, then Gossip Girl voiceovers

She's gonna be in Movie 43 as Supergirl.. can't wait for that movie (lots of big name stars in this comedy)

Great episode last night. Kristen Bell does a fantastic job on this show.

The whole anal Mormon subject was funny

Caught up on the last two episodes. Good stuff.

Another good episode this week it's getting better.

At the risk of sounding like one of those cranks who keep kvetching about a show yet keep watching it, this was a new low. Building the primary "humor" driver of an episode around anal sex? Are you kidding me? This show is not only bad, it's repulsive. And again, the business sideplot was simplistic and shallow. But it does bookend well with 'Californication'. Showtime's got another winner here.

So, finally, three strikes and I'm out. And I'm leaving with a surprising lack of respect for Bell and Cheadle, both of whom presumably don't need the money this bad. Better luck - and better choices - on their future projects. And they should fire the agents that got them this gig.

The business thing is always a sideplot.
I find this show very funny. It's pretty much Californication with a business backdrop. Over the top characters, sexual humor, mixed with some pathos. If you like one you'll probably like the other. I do. If you're offended then don't check it out.

It's perfectly fine that you don't enjoy the show. Not everyone's tastes are the same. There does seem to be an audience for this kind of "repulsive" material though, and I guess I'm part of it.

I don't mind some of it, but I don't consider this show to be a particularly good example of the "crude" shock-value comedy genre. For instance, 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' trods some of that same turf but does it a lot better, IMO. I just think the writing on this show stinks, badly - about like the subject matter of the last episode. Anyway, I won't be back to bitch about it every week (I know that really annoys me in other threads). I'm done with this one; I gave it a fair shot. Ya'll have fun.

So so this week but had some fairly funny moments stuck in between some lulls.

I do like the show, only the thing that annoys me is stopping all the cameras just to explain something to the audience by Kaan
post #79 of 228
Finally watched last weeks episode. Hilarious! This week's looks good too!

That bathroom scene was smoking. Dawn Olivieri has some body

IDK but she looks like Tricia Helfer... she reminds me of her every time I see her..

No ex-wife this week? Bummer

I think I'm beginning to have a small crush on Kristen Bell. Ha

That social recruiting party was a little weird, but I guess parties like that really do happen? Showing off college students/recent graduates to the management of big firms.

Mr. Kaan sure did play that dude. That was harsh

I liked this last episode; things are finally feeling like they're happening (like the merger is becoming real, people's motivations & relationships with each other are becoming clearer).

Did not expect Bell's character to end up in bed at the end.
Those parties seem like hell: everyone's either superficially judging each other or stabbing each other in the back. Yowch.

The chick with the great tits was beautiful. I hope she comes back. I had to check the math on the whole 3' of rope question. Mathematically the answer made sense but conceptually it seems like 3' of extra rope wouldn't make that kind of difference if you stretched it around the earth (and never mind variations in the earth's crust or the bulge at the equator).

Unlike the past episodes, I'm actually looking forward to seeing what happens next this time.

I'm all in on this show. I even like the stopping time trick where Marty talks to the audience. I do find his bumbling male drones a tad irritating though they do provide a few laughs. There's 2 ways I see this going. Marty triumphs and spikes the merger with much blood in the sand or he blows it by being Marty, gets sacked and next season he's in resurrection mode having learned a major life lesson...perhaps getting delayed revenge. Either way I find him entertaining and Cheadle has roped me in.

explains the rope thingy with a string... same thing... if you saw this in school you'll know the answer..

And I was like surprised with Kristen and rooting she showed at least a side boob.. nope, bra again... damn it.. LOL
post #86 of 228
I guarantee no nudity is in her contract. Would not be surprised at all.

Really really like the show now. Started out uneven but it's moving now.

Not wanting to show the goods is perfectly fine. Just don't audition for roles that kind of require it. The same with Jessica Alba. Seeing a girl have sex wearing a bra is just rediculous. Who does that in real life? No one I've ever been with.
Yeah and if this show was in FTA TV and rated PG or less

(I've seen more side bewbs in network TV LOL)

I'm a little confused with the whole merger. Guess it's the upper management, don't know who runs what company.

Mr. Kaan sure does like to "play dirty". Giving that one dude LSD, who then came back to his office and acted like they were best buds.

I liked the performance at the end. Roscoe and Kaan's girlfriend, April. Megalyn Echikunwoke is so pretty
