Is DCDI Faroudja real?

I'm being offered a Sharp Aquos Quattron 60" with the "super special" DCDI chip installed which will exponentially improve contrast ratio. There is very limited information on this chip and am just wondering if this is just a ploy to up the sales price on the standard tv. Is there even a way to determine if the chip is actually installed other than opening the tv and searching for it?

DCDi is a picture processing chip for deinterlacing low resolution images. I can't say how it would improve contrast. I suppose it could somehow be incorporated into a set by opening it up, and thats probably how you'd have to look for it. Its not new technolgy, my old 4 year old Vizio plasma my parents now use has it.

Not sure the who the outfit is that you're dealing with but it sounds like a total sales ploy to me.

Faroudja became a non-special brand 4-5 or 6 years ago after their competitors caught up with results.

These types of chips are inside of all TV's already, but i've never heard of an "add-in" chip.

Whatever vendor you're looking at is a crook. No retailers are out there modifying TVs with special chips that will "exponentially" improve contrast, or anything else for that matter (well maybe their profits). Exponential is a word with a meaning and its use in this context is a loud and clear signal that you're dealing with a criminal.

Super special? That crook should be put on double secret probation.

My Onkyo 707 employés that very same chip. The only difference I have sen is that it seems to "clean" low resolution material.

Since first seeing these sets with DCDI added to the P/N and claiming to contain Faroudjs's LEDBacklight Adaptive Contrast (LED-BLAC) technology, I've searched for more info., and basically there isn't any out there...no test reports, no reviews and no mention of it at any mfr. site such as SharpUSA or Samsung.
I've seen these sets at hudsonpixels.com, thetvmegastore.com and true1080p.com. One poor sole, after buying one, contacted "Just Answer" to find out how to verify it had the Faroudja chip and was told by the tech, while he couldn't prove it, it appeared to be a ripoff.

Sharp does not add the DCDi chip to TVs and neither does Faroudja. Someone is simply stamping Sharp TV boxes with "DCDi Faroudja." Just plain fraud.

If you have bought one of these TVs, tell them you opened the back of the TV and found no DCDi chip; they will refund the money.

A good friend of mine just bought one of these with the Faroudja story. I hope for his sake it is not all BS...

I am afraid your friend got scammed. Do a search and you will see that there are multiple threads about scammers selling TVs with Faroudja DCDi. Good news is that many people were able to get their money refunded but I recommend your friend take action sooner rather than later. Good luck to your friend.

I just got my Samsung from tvsuperstore and the original SAMSUNG BOX has Faroudja printed right on the box!
^^^^yeah, some of those who fell for the Sharp scam had that stamped on the box, too. It wasn't put there by Sharp any more than yours was stamped there by Samsung.

Neither mfg. has advertised or promoted this Faroudja dcdi feature in any of their advertising or promotional material, nor is any other retailer offering it. The AV sites like c-net have never mentioned this option. It's a scam.

I know this is taking the thread off topic a bit, but I'm curious about his TVSuperstores.com experience as well. Considering a purchase of a 90" LED TV and they have the best price.

I have no complaints at all !! They even called a couple days later to check if I got everything hooked up correctly and was satisfied !!

I am not going to go on about the faroudja , they were bought out by another company and they make many video processing components!

he explained it to me and I a very happy , and the picture on the TV couldn.t be any better IMO !!!!
