Metal Gear Solid: Phantom Pain - Page 2

Metal Gear Solid V was officially presented at GDC today. The Phantom Pain and Ground Zero teasers were all ultimately referring to this one, single open-world sequel. NeoGAF summary:
Quote:
- The first open world MGS - the beginning is linear though since it serves as tutorial
- Currently schedulded for Xbox 360 + PS3 (Maybe even next-gen consoles, possible announcement at E3)
- Trailer is in real-time, running on Kojima Production's FOX Engine
- Snake is NOT voiced by Hayter, but by Kiefer Sutherland
- The crazy truth behind Joakim is..

- MGSV = Ground Zeroes + The Phantom Pain: "Ground Zeroes is a prologue of MGSV. 9 years after that event will be The Phantom Pain. MGSV is constructed w/ prologue and main game TPP. The game play demo I presented today is the opening of TPP which is tutorial that starts from crawling." - Joakim Mogren
- Snake wakes up 9 years after being in a coma and has lost many of his movement capabilities
- The whole hospital sequence is basically the tutorial of MGSV
- A bandaged man who introduces himself as Ishmael tries to help Snake to escape

Guess this thread will be useful in a few years when MGS 5 does come out.

Fool me once Kojima, fool me a thousand times!

where in the convoluted timeline is this game supposed to be taking place?

It's possible that we can play through the entire game and still not be sure of the answer to your question when we are done. wink.gif

Thats Big Boss, so post Peacewalker.

Being out cold for 9 years and in a medical setting, my guess is Les Enfants Terribles and the run up to Metal Gear/Outter Heaven.

I think it would be really neat if they ended MGS5 by having a cut-scene showing Solid Snake coming on-shore in Outer Heaven and hearing Big Boss over the CODEC stating "This is Big Boss. Operation Intrude N313. Penetrate the enemy's Outer Heaven and destroy the ultimate weapon Metal Gear!. Over."

I read someone post this in a different thread/forum and thought it was a great idea. It would be the greatest if to end the MGS series, Kojima and his crew re-did the original Metal Gear, as well as Metal Ger 2 : Solid Snake in the Fox Engine. It would take some tweaking to throw in cut-scenes and have the voice-actors go over the lines that were previously just displayed on the screen, but man those games would be great. At that point, the only thing missing would be a Metal Gear Solid 1 re-make without doing all the same mistakes that were done for The Twin Snakes. When I first played MGS4 and got to Act IV, it really made me salivate about how awesome a re-make of MGS1 would look like on the PS3, but I believe that Kojima said he never plans on re-doing that game again. So sad.

Still, I went and changed the texting tone on my iPhone to the Alert sound from the MGS games, and changed my ringtone to be the "Duel" song from the Metal Gear Solid 1 soundtrack. smile.gif Was funny when at the gym today and I got a phone call from a friend and then a text, the person at the gym next to me just yelled out "SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!!!" Nearly dropped the weights on my chest as I started laughing. tongue.gifbiggrin.gif

This one caught me off guard because I just saw an interview with Kojima where he said they weren't telling us just yet who is doing the voice. The NeoGAF thread now says
Quote:
- Snake is NOT voiced by Hayter (?) Rumor: Kiefer Sutherland

I don't know if I like the idea of replacing Hayter but if this turns out to be true, Kiefer Sutherland is a pretty fine choice.

Big Boss wasn't voiced by Hayter in MGS4, but someone with a older voice. Guess well have to wait and see.
I guess since they changed voice actors the whole series is garbage now. I bet it has lensflare even.

Richard Doyle did the voice of Big Boss in MGS4.
I wouldn't mind him to reprise his role.

Les enfant terribles project was in 1972. Phantom Pain is set in the early 80s right? A younger Solid Snake might appear later before Outer heaven. hayter might still be involved.

This has me worried. Anyone have deep concerns that the next game will fall flat?

Name a series that old that hasn't had a stale entry?
I think MGS got stale for the general population around MGS2. To the rest of us, Kojima hasn't failed us yet.

I typically enjoy the games but I have to be in the right mood but never really felt let down by any of them. I also make it a point to not try too hard on the story stuff.

All the Snaaaaaaaaaake you can stomach!

Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection for PS3 (has some screen shots) MSG1-4 and MG and MG2 and Peace Walker and some extras... coming in June.

The VR missions are also included I saw. I wonder if there's anything missing here besides the Nintendo games (The two Metal Gears are significantly different with #2 completely different as I recall, there was a GBC game I think in a similar style, and the MGS remake on the GameCube).

Will Metal Gear Solid be remade? I'm guessing no.

Also, the MGSV trailer for E3 is said to be for mature audiences only. I guess we'll finally see what perverted, ungodly taboo that Kojima has been hyping is in the game for the past year or so.

Wait a minute. Wasn't Kiefer voicing the guy helping Snake in the hospital demo? I am all confused now. My boy Jack Baur.

naked or solid?

(or liquid or solidus)

Konjima is a sneaky bastard after all.

I actually don't mind David Hayter not being the voice of snake. In MGS4 it felt too "forced". Don't know. Lol

Sutherland to play Snake in 'Metal Gear Solid'
Article by: DERRIK J. LANG , AP Entertainment Writer Updated: June 6, 2013 - 6:35 PM

Kiefer Sutherland is slithering into a very different role.

"Metal Gear Solid" creator Hideo Kojima said Thursday the "24" star will play protagonist Snake in the next installment of the stealth video game series.

The character has been portrayed in the "Metal Gear Solid" games by voice actor David Hayter since the original was released in 1998.

Kojima says because "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" takes place in 1984, it requires an actor who can convey the facial and vocal qualities of a 49-year-old version of the super-soldier.

"We're taking on some very heavy subjects, such as race and revenge," Kojima said Thursday in an online video streamed by "Metal Gear Solid" publisher Konami, ahead of next week's Electronic Entertainment Expo.

"I wanted Snake to have a more subdued performance, expressed through subtle facial movements and tone of voice rather than words," Kojima said.\

Wow so MGS5 is an open world! Awesome!

I turned on spike TV just when snake was talking to someone before he got on the horse, I could have sworn it was Assassins Creed X. Then he got into the area with buildings, and I was even more assured it was Assassins Creed.

But after that they changed it up. The lighting is beautiful.

Here's is the the E3 trailer in HD. Hmmm, no hint of what is taboo in this game yet:

child soldiers....

Here's the extended "Red Band" version of the E3 trailer. It is pretty graphic.

MGS cheesiness plus such dark subject matter could be an uncomfortable combination. Still this is the best thing I've seen at E3 so far. Really excited for this.
