Wonder if it's any good, or a Westinghouse type iffy proposition? Could be the leds have become so commoditized that it's as good as any even mid tier type lcd/led tv?

That sounds dirt cheap, anyone know what lcd panel they have in them (Lg, Samsung)?

I always thought hisense was a step below vizio.

In the past, I have read that they were using Samsung components in their TVs. I have a 55" Hisense that is still looking great after nearly a year. I haven't had any problems with my LCD. The only complaint about it I've heard is the same complaint about 120hz sets: they exhibit the soap opera effect (SOE). I don't understand the complaint; I don't have any problem with it.

Just took delivery of a refurb 42" Hisense F42K20E which is a 1080p LED HDTV. I've searched but can't seem to find a list of general agreed upon settings for picture. Anyone have some they care to share or can point me in the right direction? Since this looks like the only thread for Hisense I'm going to assume there is no dedicated thread for the model F42K20E that I can post to.

Hello,

I would suggest using the Blue-Ray version of the DVD Essentials video to set up your TV. There are not as many changes available, however. And turn on Motion Interpolation so that you get the great Soap Opera Effect.

Been looking around and pickings are slim at walmart, hhgreg and costco for hisense stuff... I assume end of year and they are waiting for new models to drop... maybe the 65 incher? Anyone have any info on this? I can't even find the 55 inch 3D anywhere anymore...

Just FYI , Hisense is manufacturing their TVs , not as top of the line Toshiba 55L7200U made by Compal/contractor/, with LG panel and no brand motherboard./see the official thread/. I returned this Toshiba along with Samsung UN55ES6100 because of their awful backlight bleeding and horrible uniformity. Finally I gave up researching for expensive edge LED TVs, and just got Hisense 55T710DW /their top model/ for $400/found it on craigslist/ This TV has way better uniformity and almost no light leak. Brilliant colors, great contrast/adaptive contrast/, amazing viewing angle, nice touch panel on front of the bezel , 3D/all formats/Netflix, VUDU, Youtube , DLNA, Wifi,4 HDMI ports etc.The build quality is TOP NOTCH with metal/glass frame and sturdy metal/rubber stand. So maybe it is time to look beyond the "brand slave" and realize that not only Sony,Samsung.LG and Panasonic are manufacturing TVs !

Hisense jumps into 4K TVs with the XT880, promises Android 4.0 and a sane size !!!

Anyone else embedded Android 4.0 into their TVs ? Hands down ! There will be new players on the US market !

The problem is what happens a year and a half or so down the road when they are much more likely than the major brands to start malfunctionning and you find there are no replacement parts available, so unless you're a pretty talented diy guy you've got a $699 doorstop. Even this isn't a problem if you have the disposable income to go out and buy another Hi Sense, Polaroid, Pro Scan, Olevia, Shakibutsu or whatever off-brand bargain set is available.

If, on the other hand, you work hard for a living and scrimp and save to buy a new tv, you probably don't have the money to replace it when it craps out prematurely--so that name brand entry level 50" plasma or 46" lcd is, in fact, the better investment for a main tv.

This isn't brand snobbery, it's common sense.

It seems you are not familiar with this brand at all. For an example , it is very popular in Australia. Build quality , components , motherboard etc , are high quality and failing rate is way to low than many other major manufactures. Hisense now is rolling out 4K TV with Android 4.0 OS, and ULTRA D technology for glasses free 3D . I believe people want to know and accept only local brands , and don't go any further. So , I can assure you that this TV will last as long /if not even more/ than other popular brands.

All,

As I said elsewhere, I've had my 55" Hisense LCD for 1.25 years. It is as brilliant and beautiful as it was day one. The Soap Opera Effect (SOE) still wows me!! It is amazing!!

Why is there only on place for Hsense? Wont it get all confusing to have a thread for hisense but questions about every model?

Why not a forum section for Hisense where we can then create posts for each model?

Hey, that's a great idea. This thread has just been innundated with 40 posts in the nearly year and a half since it was created. My suggestion would be for you to research every Hisense model, make a separate thread for each of them and you may get 10-15 posts per year. wink.gif

Why are so snarky? Maybe if there was a topic area for Hisense, more hisense owners would show but to cram it into on topic they might seek other means since they might be concerned with their model only. Gee this is the second place I posted only to get picked on for posting. I dislike the attitude from SOME members on the AVS. mad.gif

I actually wish you guys luck with your new sets, after all if nobody ever took a chance on a cheap lesser known brand we wouldn't have Toyotas or Hondas.

Anybody want to share their picture settings on their Hisense HDTVs in regards to contrast/brightness/sharpness/colour/backlight?
I had the same problem with the "soap opera" effect...i switched the 120Hz now the tv looks normal but with the clarity the tv intended us to view.

All they have to do is go into the tv settings and change the 120Hz....and the tv will no longer give you the SOE.

The deal with Hisense is interesting. They are a household name in other countries but are OEM for other manufacturers. The reason their TV's are inexplicably inexpenxive yet robust is that they are vertically integrated. They make their own parts for their tv's that others purchase from them. They have the enviable lower cost business model making them seem like a Westinghouse or Vizio budget tv price wise.
