What models/brands are on top right now? Upgrading from LN52A750

My opinion a und8000 Samsung. It has 1080p 3D. The 3D image is bright and flicker free. the glasses are the lightest active glasses available. There is no problem with IR or burn in that plasma may have and is brighter than plasma. It's energy efficient. The crosstalk issue is mostly solved. I think the slim bezel design is the most pleasing available. I don't own one. I wish I did.

It really depends on your budget.

I upgraded from LN52A650 to an LG 55" LW5600 after much research and in-store auditions.

This could be a VERY difficult upgrade if the picture quality of your set is anything near the quality of my Sam LN52A850. It's nothing short of stellar.

In plasmas the latest Sony 9000 or the latest Panasonic VT would be comparable.

The only LED I have heard mention of in the same class by someone who seen ALL of these sets side by side is the Sony 55hx929.

Hope this helps you out. I am having a 65 inch Panny VT series delivered this weekend, hoping it's performance is almost as good as the LN52A850 or matches it. I really don't expect to see much to beat that and I believe it was the Samsung B8000 back then( when I got the LN52A850) that were near the top of the pile.

The VT offers the promise of full HD 3d 1080p, not 720p 3d like I hear Samsung sets offer, AND a better 3d experience when I compared the D9000 Samsung Plasma and the VT 65 Panny plasma side by side in my opinion.

Any of the Panasonic plasmas ST, GT and VT are excellent for 3D. VT series is their top of the line, and certainly top tier among all TVs.

What??? I was under the distinct impression that all Samsung models at or above C7000 and D7000 display 1080p 3D. 720p active 3D??? Say it isn't so.

Just a bit dimmer than I prefer. From some posts I've seen IR and burn in would worry me.

What's the difference between the ST and VT lines? Amazon has the ST 65 for 2K

I could be wrong but several people have posted that the Samsung plasmas, even the latest 9000 series does 3d in 720p. I did read another post that said in some study unless you are sitting closer than 6 feet to the screen the human can't distinguish between 720p and 1080i. In my experience I would almost agree but not quite because I believe I can see a difference. Factor increasingly larger screen sizes and the difference will be more visible.

So combine the 1080 and the type of 3d technology used in the Panasonics and you can see why so many people say when viewing the Samsung 3d and then the Panasonic 3D that the Panasonic delivers a significantly better 3d experience.

Now interestingly enough I am hearing that once you go over 65 inch glass, to the 70 and 80 inch screens in the Elite series and Sharp models the color quality and image quality and also the 3d performance actually decease. I can only imagine what the owners of sets over 65 inch would think if they know their bigger model from a higher end series like the Elite has lesser performance than the Panasonic VT30 65 inch set

I just entered Samsung Plasma 3D at amazon.com and the first six TVs were all 1080P including the 9000 series.


You compared them side by side and didn't know it was 1080P?

That aside, I keep seeing posts that the crosstalk / ghosting problem of plasmas and LED/LCDs is "mostly solved".

Pyrophoric, have you checked out Mitsubishi DLPs? There were never any ghosting problems to solve, 1080P, and amazing 3D at 73" 83" and 92" sizes.

Available for under $1000 for the 73" size to $4000 and up for the 92"

May not be the right set for you, but $1000 for a 73" versus $2000 for a 65" is worth checking out.

1)Yes the Panasonic VT Samsung 9000 plasmas are considered competing models by hundreds of people on the forum so I compared them side by side


2)As for the 1080p, the question is not whether the Samsung plasma does 1080p but whether it does 1080p 3D. The search you did on amazon would be a very bad way to confirm whether the Samsung does 1080P 3D since the Amazon will return search the most likely hits on multiple words but that does not necessarily include all the keywords as features.

3) DLPs are considered subpar to plasmas by most posters so I would not put a DLP in the same class as the top tier plasmas though DLPs no doubt have things unique to DLP technology.

I am sure someone who has seen documentation about the 3D resolution of the Samsung plasma being either 720 or 1080 can be found on the forum.
