HD isn't for everyone. Even more so not for kids. They are just kids. Why do they need HD lol.

I've been making a crazy roller coaster on one of my islands, going to try and make it big enough to get the achievement.
I assume its like a wooden roller coaster, right? There is no way you can make it loop. I havent tried anything with the minecart so I am not sure what you can and cant do with it.

have you guys ever had people come into your online game that weren't on your friends list?

I got a couple of random people jumping in my game that were not on my friends list. I was underground at the time and never saw them.

One of them (who I had never met ever) sent me a friend invite prior to joining my game. I didn't do anything with the invite but I didn't delete it. they joined and left minutes later. later, the friend invite was gone. and the guy went back to MW2.

Anyway, when it became day time, I left my mine to go do topside stuff. And one of my buildings was almost totally destroyed and my chests in the building were gone.

just when I thought the game was a relaxing diversion, losing all my stuff was distressing! I guess Easy difficulty can get hard!

I also encountered a monster generator while underground. It looked like a metal cage with fire inside it. I destroyed it. And there was a nearby chest with some cool goodies. I didn't know this was how monsters are generated. This can't be the only way to generate monsters. But it was cool to see it.

There should be an option in settings to allow friends only, or anybody to join. Leaving it for anybody to join is just inviting griefing.
I always make sure I have the invite only option selected.

that's where I'm confused. I thought Minecraft only allows friends to join your game. When I go to play, it shows my games and my friends games. I don't see any type of lobby to choose from strangers.

If strangers can join my game, I'll definitely select the invite only option. but I like having my game open so that friends can just hop in.

It's super easy to get in to other people's games through your "recently played with" list. I can imagine a scenario where a sore loser in COD picks through their Recent list to find open Minecraft games to troll.

This is correct, sadly.

I was looking through another forum and some people made some pretty cool Nintendo stuff:

some of the game-generated terrains are pretty cool. I'm not sure my world has a place like this:

C for effort on Mario but if you are going to make him get his colors right.

Maybe those colors had been used due to the limitation of them... Ever think of that?

That's defiantly worth an A.

He should of used the red dirt from the nether portal. Aside from that it is really good. Was that done on the xbox? If so even more impressive.
Either way. It was very impressive. The fact that they even thought of something like that is just awesome.

I've only been playing the demo of the game and as far as I can tell you can't make any adjustments to the boxes, unless the full version has more options.

How old is your tv? Image retention in plasma displays is pretty much a myth these days and has been for several years.

Burn in is a myth. IR is still very much here.

yes, the mario was done on the Xbox so they didn't have the benefits of an editor or a mod like on the pc.

I haven't even come close to accessing the netherworld. But then again, I'm not very efficient.

And I didn't realize that if a mess-up happens, you can just reload your game and recover what you had stored away. I lost a lot of stuff that was blown up when I was underground and so I rebuilt from the ruins and reaccumulated ores and other stuff that I had collected along the way. I'd be much further along had I not lost everything.

I always save right before going on a monster killing mission and building the top of my house. I try and bring everything I need but there are times when I collect a lot of items from them and while running back home a skeleton puts that last arrow in my back. I just reload so I dont lose all the food that I had and try again. I know its a cheesy move but oh well. I am only in it to build the things I want. I save before building as I way up top and I guess I forgot to tell my wolf to sit and he knocked me off to my death. I was so pissed, I had that furnace going for about 30 minutes making that glass and then I lost it all.

yeah, i can imagine doing a save before going on a life-threatening mission (though I usually go underground during the night).

but one time while I was underground, my above ground house was completely destroyed along with the 4 chests in it full of stuff. ouch.

he could have dyed wool and got the colors needed

A full 10% of this thread is now dedicated to whether some guy on the interwebs used the right colors on his Minecraft Mario. Nobody cares! How about we move on to a topic that doesn't make us look ridiculously petty?

How about why the sand in the foreground isn't even or why he didn't wait for the cloud to pass overhead before taking the screenshot? What an idiot!

Seriously though, my son plays this (always thought it looked dumb) but I see people talking about monster killing missions and netherworlds and stuff...none of which I've ever seen my kid do.
Netherworld is in this version. Adventure mode (and creative mode!) with more of a questing structure is coming two updates from now. The next update adds pistons for building machines that move blocks around.

Minecraft is A LOT OF GRINDING. it really does chew through the hours. Now I can see why Minecraft has even passed up Black Ops in terms of gaming time according to Major Nelson. May actually pass up MW3. Already left BF3, Halo, Gears of War, etc. in the dust.

if you're just casually watching someone play, all you'll see is mining and block laying.

and yeah, the only reason to hunt for monsters and enemies is that they have resources that you can't mine for. so you have to be brave and venture out at night to get them.

"Minecraft has even passed up Black Ops in terms of gaming time"

It's not time, it's unique users. In these first two weeks it shows that the game is selling ridiculously well on the platform. Minecraft has broken 6 million sales on PC and 9 million sales total as of a day or two ago. I would not be surprised if the 360 version ends up surpassing the PC sales numbers in the next year, possibly replacing COD as the consistent top spot, as COD did to Halo.

Anyone know when an update will be available?

Yeah, even though kids (mine included) like this game, they don't have the drive(?) to go much beyond making a house or three. You still Eye(s) of Ender and finding the strongholds and all that fun stuff!

If it was 1985, yeah, that would make sense.

Can you imagine a household where a kid is not allowed to take the computer's monitor to his room, where he plays Xbox? Because the rest of the family wants access to the computer?
