Good job in your deal though. I am really curious as to what the actual dealer cost is on these sets. The guys in my town make it sound like they would be losing money with anything below 5k. I don't get it...they have a 60" sitting in the back with no display unit in the store. Wouldn't they want to get rid of it? I'm going to call again today and talk to someone else.
Definitely seems strange. The guy I bought it from stated the cost for him was $3600 I believe. He stated he had two of them and had sold one for $3800 a few months ago but it got damaged in transit. I found this set on ebay originally when he had it listed for $4000. I noticed it was relisted a lot with no bids. So I messaged him and we started talking about a possible deal. It is a home theater store that is switching to mainly commerical business so they were closing their showroom. He stated there isn't money in home theater sales to the general public anymore and for the most part I agree with him. So they do commerical installs, etc. now.
So if any dealer is telling you they are losing money at $4000, they are full of it or got a bad deal when they bought the televsions. I know the guy I bought it from took a loss but not by much (plus he had it sealed in his showroom for a year at least).
I would pay at most $3500 for a sealed one if I was you. Now if they come in a bit higher, that's your decision. My original budget was $3000-$3200 and even I went over. He did throw in an extra two pairs of 3D glasses so that helped a bit. It's a really hard set to find now brand new even at expensive prices. I know Paul's TV has one 60" left for $4399 I believe (amazon shows that). I tried to get a better deal but they didn't budge. Honestly though, I wouldn't be surprised if Paul's went for $4000 shipped but I would count on anything below that. I tried for the $3500 range and they wouldn't budge.
