I think it's sad that $50 is considered cheap for a three-move set--that's almost $20 a film! I want a new, updated version to come out so the price on this one can plummet. Then I'll buy it.

To be fair, there are 15 discs in this set. You do get some bang for the buck.

I remember when $20 a film for a Blu-ray was considered cheap.

It wasn't that long ago we were paying $30 for these things.

citizen kane BB exclusive no longer on shelves or online
post #14 of 124
Just bought Citizen Kane for $10.99 off the shelf at my local Best Buy yesterday. Three left on the shelf. So they might be out there in some locations. Awesome deal if you can find it! Good luck!

Mission Impossible 1- 3 $10 each plus $10 movie cash to see the new one. Or trilogy, same movies in one box, $20 plus $10 movie cash. So take a couple buddies to the movie and get the movies for essentially free.

I got it for $10.99 as well as the 2-disc Exorcist for $10.99, both in the "book" case. These deals are good until 12/31/2011 if you can find them. There are some other good $10.99 BD titles, too.

They also have some Criterion BDs - Dazed and Confused, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - for their Best Buy regular $29.99 price (retail $39.99).

Though I suspect everyone here has seen The Exorcist, if you don't have the Blu-Ray, $10.99 for what is one of the best horror/supernatural films ever made is a bargain you shouldn't miss. Contains 2 BDs, one extended Director's Cut (my preferred version) and one Theatrical Version (10 minutes shorter).

That's the normally $34.99 movie-discs-only 2 BD + 2 DVD Best Buy set http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Ben-Hur%...-ray&lp=1&cp=1

The Blu-Ray Deluxe set with the 1925 Silent Film and all the extra features + books is still $59.99 or so.

Woot! With the $5 trade in for DVDs, I managed to get Airplane and The Naked Gun for $15 a piece, and Real Steel for $17! I might go back tonight for Galaxy Quest.

"Apollo 13" is on sale right now at $9.99. With the "Universal 100" coupon at 3 dollars + a 5 dollar dvd coupon, its only 2 bucks!

Probably not a hugely popular film here compared to some of Kubrick's others, but BB has Eyes Wide Shut on sale this week for $8.

Have not seen the BD yet myself, so don't know how good it is. But I'll be sort of curious to see how the presentation on this handled. I believe Kubrick intended this to be shown "open matte" in ~1.33 ratio.
Never read that, but here's what's listed:

1.66 : 1 (theatrical ratio, Europe)
1.85 : 1 (theatrical ratio, USA)
1.37 : 1 (negative ratio)

What I don't understand is why some BD releases are presented cropped to wider ratios than intended or used or why those meant to be 1.37 are cropped to 1:33.

^ You raise some interesting questions. Maybe the folks over here can shed some more light?

That was only way back in the earlier days of home video.

I found "Hero" in the $7.99 bin on Saturday.

Harryhausen's Jason & the Argonauts: $9.99 till 3/3/12.

This title is showing some of it's age, but I was pretty happy with the PQ and stereo sound on this BD, all things considered. Still an awesome movie to watch, and some very nice extras as well.
Not to be outdone by it's competitors, BB now has a $4.99 dump-bin for BDs, which I believe includes most of the following titles...

America's National Treasures
Another Stakeout
Baby: Secret Of The Lost Legend
Betsy's Wedding
Big Business
Consenting Adults
Gross Anatomy
Gun In Betty Lou's Handbag
Holy Matrimony
An Innocent Man
Last Dance
Marrying Man
Miami Rhapsody
Money For Nothing (I recall this being a fairly decent Cusack flick, so might grab this one)
My Father The Hero
Play It To The Bone
Scenes From A Mall
Straight Talk
Tie That Binds
War At Home
VI Warshowski
...and a few of the "Ernest" comedies

^ Same price online as well.
