Would I be fine driving these with a Pioneer VSX-1021?

Heck ya no problem at all! BTW Pioneer makes one of the nicest amps sections in a consumer AVR at that price point.

Dave put tremendous work into that xover and all his speakers have a very linear phase response and very mild phase angles. The xover is special with its OPPIX variable slope and it has a boundary EXBAC switch on the xover PCB.

Ascend Acoustics is VERY HONEST and all the measurements are published and available on their website. Dave actually tests each speaker, prints a report and signs off on it. This is done FOR EACH UNIT before it's shipped. Nice little touch that shows Dave cares and wants to make sure you get great product. He even includes white gloves for handling a Sierra-1.

Dave is a class act in every metric and you really couldn't do business with a better outfit on a performance per dollar ratio.

Yeah he should listen to those mainstream speakers... why not!?! And I didn't say he should listen to them either! I said he shouldn't PURCHASE THEM. If your looking to purchase speakers it's best to listen to as many as you possibly can. Problem is A/Bing them is almost impossible unless it's from the same store. The speaker hookup time is also to long for sonic memory and most shops don't have a speaker level switch for A/B ing and PURPOSELY don't have one!

IMHO it's impossible for the major corporate brands to make a speaker at the pricepoint of a CBM-170SE/CBT-340SE or A/V-1 A/V-2. Dave and Danny have spent YEARS perfecting those loudspeakers for consumers like the OP.

The large corporations are to greedy to achieve the same level of performance and why would anyone put more money into their coffers considering the state of affairs!

It's like comparing a pre-fab Dell PC to one made out of quality PC motherboard/PSU/RAM.

There is really no contest!

I wouldn't consider it a loss at all.

You might not realize this, but you're preaching to the choir. Something you didn't mention, though, is technically even ABing at the same store is totally useless because it still isn't in your own home, with your own gear. All I'm saying is let the OP choose on his own instead of telling him what to or not to buy. One man's crap is another's treasure, and for all you know he might hate what you or I like. Most people unfortunately don't have the time that we had to put into A/V shopping. It seems as of recent about the only thing these forums are good for these days is getting a general idea of the brands that are liked so the buyers can research which ones might interest them. And, of course, these forums are great for meeting new people. Other than that, it's nothing but opinions being thrown around and people getting into cat fights about who's opinion is right (ironic, seeing as no one's opinion can be fact, because it's an opinion. That's where measurements and correlation to hearing come into play. If only we had an independent third party source we could trust that measured every speaker known to man).

Again I say, calm down man. It's just audio. Also, I mean no disrespect.
