Technically, the BB guy is correct BUT the TV will only output 2.0 stereo (except from its internal tuner). To get better sound quality going in to a soundbar you either need to connect components via HDMI to the soundbar, or run optical from the component to the soundbar in addition to your HDMI connection for video to the TV.

All of the soundbars you listed are pretty good and deserve a listen. I'm not aware that any of them support bluetooth though.

I don't think the Polk Audio AM1805 has a optical connection. That would be a deal breaker for me since my tv only has one audio out and it's a optical connection. I'm in the same boat as you, but I've already tried one and it didn't work. The Visio VSB200 Optical was a no go. I just want a low profile good bar without a sub or with fine, but under $250.

I've been looking at the YHT-S400BL, but it's a little pricey and that very small bar looks like it wouldn't get much rich sound.

Why dont you just run your cable box and bluray player into the soundbar instead of running your TV into it. That's the best way to do it in order to take advantage of the artificial surround sound. Your TV can only output 2.0 channel audio.

I don't have a cable box, just a Blu-ray player and computer sometimes in this set-up, so if I did what you suggest, I wouldn't get any output for watching tv or on my computer, if the soundbar only has one optical connection. I tried the VSB200, but it was a little big, sort of ugly, and the optical didn't work on the one I picked up, so I returned it. I like the new Yamaha single soundbar, but it's been getting some bad reviews and it's a little tall. In any case, I think I've given up on finding a soundbar that will work, at least for now. They are either too tall to place in front of my tv (over 4") or they come with a mediocre sub that I don't want. They are also sort of expensive, in comparison to buying good quality bookshelves I can hang on either side of the tv.

I just purchased a Outlaw M8 sub for this setup, and I'm now working on some hangable bookshelves. This is sort of temporary, until I actually find a soundbar that will meet my needs. I'm looking for one that has optical and sub connection (w/o a sub) and is either short enough to place under my tv (under 3 1/2") or is light enough to hang above. But I don't really like the idea of hanging a bar above the tv if I can help it. Fyi, this is for a bedroom setup. I already have a an old receiver I'm using for this.
