I have spent the last few days calibrating my tv with a spyder3. I was able to get perfect gray scale calibration at D65 6500k, however the CMS controls didn't work very well and I'm still having trouble getting Red and Blue perfect.
Brightness and Gamma gave me a little trouble. My subjective observations wanted the brightness around 0 to +1. My objective measurements were around -4 to -6. I settled with a -2 compromise. Basically a -4 brightness and -2 gamma was needed to get the gamma accurate. As you can see below, the gamma is still a bit away from the 2.2-2.5 range.
Here are my results and settings using Game mode. Maybe some of the other modes may perform better, however since i'm using an HTPC i notice the audio delay when not using game mode. I started with one of the DaGamePimps settings and went from there:
+23 <--- this value sets the proper luminance for red, but makes red look worse
+30 <--- not enough to get blue luminance matched
Color Temp LOW
Active Contrast OFF
Note: The Red and Blue primary colors are really difficult to adjust. You can move the CMS settings to both extreme ends and have barely any movement towards the reference setting....
